New "Evidence" Supporting the Claim that the Novorussians Shot Down the Jetliner

In the course of a day, a lot “new evidence” has emerged, all purporting to prove that the Novorussians shot down the jetliner. I will go through this evidence below:

  • The missile trail of the missile that shot down the jet was spotted from Novorussian territory. This “evidence” comes from the Ukie fascists. The Ukie fascists are a horrible source for information or evidence about anything. Until we get a better source for this, caveat emptor. Evidence uncertain.
  • Taped conversation released showing Novorussians and Russian military discussing the handover of a Buk system from Russia. Once again, source is the Ukie fascists, who are a terrible source for anything. Just looking at this video, it looks very similar to the prior video the Ukie fascists released of the Novorussians talking about how they downed the jet, which has now been proven to be a fake. Since it looks so similar, this one may be a fake too. We just don’t know. Evidence uncertain.
  • Photo released of Russian Buk system moving across the border from Russia to Novorussia. I have not yet seen this photo, but the source is once again, drum roll…the Ukie fascists! Probably the worst source on Earth for any evidence about anything. Evidence uncertain.
  • Photo released of Buk system supposedly on a road near a town close to where the jet was downed in Novorussian territory. Guess where it came from? Yep. The Ukie fascists! I have no idea what to make of this photo. Evidence uncertain.
  • Tweets found of Strelkov stating that the Novorussians had just shot down a Ukie fascist military jet at about the same time that the jetliner was down. This tweet was later erased. Strelkov did indeed tweet this, though he later removed it. I have no idea what this means, but it doesn’t look good for the Novorussians. Evidence: Bad for Novorussian side.
  • Novorussians are blocking access to the site. I haven’t the faintest idea why they are doing this, but if the Ukie fascists or their pals in the pro-fascist West investigate this site, both the Ukies and their pro-fascist Western allies will surely fake the investigation. Probably the only hope of a non-biased investigation is from the Novorussians or Russia. Motivation for behavior uncertain, but looks bad from Novorussian side.
  • Novorussians and/or Russians have removed 38 bodies and two black boxes from the site and sent them to Russia. I have no idea if this is true or not, and if so, why it was done. Possibly it was done to ensure an unbiased investigation since the pro-fascist West cannot be counted on. Looks bad for Russian and Novorussian side, but motivation for behavior is not known.
  • Three days ago, a Novorussian Buk shot down an SU-35 Ukie fascist jet. The Novorussians have shot down a few of these jets, but I had never heard that they shot one down with a Buk. Evidence highly uncertain to say the least.
  • Jet was downed by a “Russian missile.” More slimy propaganda from the pro-fascist West. You see, if a Russian-manufactured missile shot it down, then only a Russian or Novorussian force could have downed the jet, right? Gong! Nope! The truth is that all or nearly all weapons in use in this war are Russian weapons, manufactured in Russia. All or nearly all Ukie fascist weapons are Russian. So this is just slimy, devious propaganda relying on dirty insinuation. Evidence: utterly worthless but great for devious insinuating propaganda.
  • Putin admitted that either the Russians or the Novorussians shot down the jet. Pro-fascist American patriotards keep insisting that Putin made this statement, supposedly in a phone call to Obama. However, I have not  yet found any news site repeating this claim, so apparently it is untrue. Evidence false.
  • Endless speculation on whether or not the Novorussians have  Buks, since the plane was downed with a Buk. This is truly a devious message. Yes, the Novorussians may have one or more Buks, but so far it looks like they are nonoperational. The insinuation is that if the Novorussians have the missile that shot down the jet, then that proves that they used that missile to shoot it down! But this argument is nonsensical. Why? Because the Ukie fascists also have Buk systems! In fact, we are 10

Today and tomorrow I hope to evaluate the latest “evidence” to see if I can get to the bottom of any of this.

Odds Ratio on the Downed Malaysian Flight

Right now, I would put the odds ratio at: Ukie fascist intentionally (false flag) 9 Novorussian accident 1 Ukie fascist accident Novorussian intentional Russian accident Russian intentional I do not know about you, but the 9 Russian accident is the latest one that the pro-fascist Western media is pushing. This is because Babylon finally figured out what we have been saying for some time now – that the Novorussians do not have anyone capable of operating a Buk missile, even if they have a working one. Now the Babylon media, citing ultra-whore and fascist supporter Samantha Power, is saying that since the Novorussians could not operate the Buk, a Russian military operative must have been operating it. This makes no sense whatsoever. First of all, there are no active duty Russian military soldiers working with the Novorussians. I have never heard evidence of even a one. Yes, the Russians are letting men and equipment go in. That is correct. But they are not sending in their own men. In addition, it is not known if Russia is supplying the Novorussians. The Novorussians are massively outgunned. If the Russians were supplying them, would they leave the Novorussians so outgunned? However, the Novorussians have sure been turning up with some fancy military equipment these days. Russian volunteers acknowledge that military equipment is going to the rebels, but they say it is coming from private sources. They say this equipment is being purchased on the black market. Second of all, even if there were active duty Russians operating the Buk, they would only be Buk experts. Most Russian Buk operators have trained for 10-12 years at least to operate that missile. No one knows how to operate these things better than a Russian Buk operator. They are consummate professionals, and they are the best. There is not one chance in Hell that a Russian Buk operator would fail to recognize a civilian jet flying in a straight line at 30,000 feet as an enemy fighter. That is simply not possible, ever. By the same token, I do not agree that the Ukie fascists shot this thing down by accident for much the same reasons. The Ukie military has been falling apart badly for 20 years now. Every year it only gets worse. Nevertheless they do have Buk operators who know what they are doing. However, a Russian expert has said that the plane was probably downed by accident by an inexperienced Ukie crew. Why would the Novorussians or the Russians shoot down a civilian jetliner on purpose? For weeks now, we have been hearing continuous rumors from the Ukie fascist side of a huge false flag operation. A few days before the airliner was downed, a Ukie fascist military figure said the Ukie fascists had a big surprise for the rebels. It looks like this may have been it. If this is a false flag, this would be the third major Ukie fascist false flag of this unrest. First and second Ukie fascist false flags here.

Ukie Fascist False Flag #1 – Maidan Snipers

False flag 1 – Maidan snipers: Snipers opened up on demonstrators and police at the Maidan on February 20, resulting in ~80 killed, mostly demonstrators but also a few police. This incident made the Babylon media go wild and resulted in a violent coup overthrow of  Yanukovich, the Russian-leaning President. However, the bullets fired by the snipers did not match the bullets that the Ukrainian police (Berkovsky) had. They did not have one bullet like this in their possession. Also in a taped phone call from the Estonian Prime Minister to a top EU official, the Estonian politican said that an investigation had shown that the snipers were working for the Maidan, and they shot their own people in addition to shooting a few cops. He mentioned the Nazi Right Sector militants as being the perpetrators. The Right Sector Nazis are real Nazis, and they are the shock troops of the Ukie fascist regime.

A Brief Post on the Downing of the Malaysian Airliner

A ferociously Russia-hating American named Sinclair wrote:

The Novorussians do have radar, and the missile trail was detected. Putin’s proxies did it.

There is no evidence whatsoever that the Novorussians had radar. And even if they did, they do not have anyone who could operate it. I have not seen any evidence at all that a missile trail was detected by anyone. There was only one radar detected in the region. A Ukie Buk was emitting radar and tracking the jet until it crashed. The Ukie unit that housed the Buk has even been identified. Yes, the jet fell in a rebel held area, but the Novorussians do not have any Buks in the area to shoot it down. The Ukie radar tracking it was a ways away, maybe 10 miles away. The Ukie SAM could easily have fired from 10 miles away to drop the jet over rebel-held territory. If it fell over rebel-held territory, that doesn’t mean the rebels shot it down! Furthermore, the fake tape issued by the Ukies says that there was a Buk at a nearby checkpoint operated by Cossacks that shot down the jet. The tape has now been proven to be a fake. Anyway, you don’t put a Buk at a checkpoint! And the last people to know how to operate a Buk would be Cossack volunteers! A top Ukie official recently said:

  1. The Novorussians do not have any Buks.
  2. The Novorussians do not have anyone capable of operating Buks.

They said this before or shortly after the jet was shot down. There are no Putin’s proxies in the area. The Novorussians are doing this of their own accord as they hate the Ukie Nazis that the West loves so much. Putin did not want them to take up arms and seize all those government offices. For a long time, the Novorussians were ridiculously underarmed because Putin would not give them any weapons. They held a referendum because the Novorussians do not want to be part of the Ukie Nazi state. Putin opposed the independence referendum because he did not want Novorussia to go independent. The Novorussians themselves want to merge with Russia, but I believe that Putin does not want them to join Russia. South Ossetia and Abkhazia also declared independence because they did not want to live under the US-supported Georgian Nazis. Both states wish to join Russia, but Putin will not let them join. Putin has always wanted a federal state for the Ukraine with substantial autonomy for Novorussia. That’s all he has ever wanted. He never wanted independence, an armed Novorussia and he certainly never wanted war. The Novorussians themselves chose to arm themselves, throw out the local government officials, and declare independence. Russia was opposed to all of these things. The Novorussians are their own men. They do what they want to do. They do not take orders from anyone, certainly not Putin. Putin bears zero responsibility for the Novorussians arming themselves, overthrowing local governments, holding an independence referendum and certainly not for the war that followed. Putin did not want any of these things. Putin has always felt that this whole thing is a Ukie-Babylon plot to draw Russia into a war so Russia can be badly hurt or even better yet destroyed. It’s been a Nazi-Western plot from Day One. Isn’t it possible that pro-Russians in the region can think for themselves? According to Babylon (America), no pro-Russians in the region can think for themselves. None of them have their own opinions about anything. They cannot take any actions at all on their own because they are completely controlled by the Russians. There will never be any real investigation of this crime. I assume that all federal law enforcement such as the FBI is unspeakably corrupt, politicized and are simply lying, cheating operatives of the Gangster State. In any crime like this, no American agency will ever conduct a proper investigation. It simply will not be done. This is why, while I support that Al Qaeda did 9-11, I do not trust the US state’s investigation of that crime. In such a circumstances, the invesigational arms of the Criminal State are hopelessly corrupt and are simply are not capable of telling the truth about anything. Why? Because these crimes have deep political overtones. No crime with deep political overtones will ever be properly investigated by US “law enforcement.” No matter who did this crime, the Ukies or the Novorussians, one thing we do for sure is that Babylon and its whores and their media are going to blame Russia no matter what the truth is.

World War 2 Rebooted

Two visions of the Donbass - the Ukie one on the left, and the Novorussian one on the right.
Two visions of the Donbass – the Ukie one on the left, and the Novorussian one on the right.
See that Nazi looking symbol at the upper left? That is one of the favorite symbols of the Ukie fascists, as is the fascist-like shield symbol at the lower left. While the Ukies are not precisely Nazis, they are fascists indeed. They are Russiaphobic fascists, to be precise, and they are just as dangerous as any ultranationalists anywhere on Earth.

Ukraine War Update July 14, 2014

Everything you see in this video is 10 Why do Babylon, the Nazis, and the whores – all together the Three Horsemen – want to draw Russia into a war? Once Russia invades Ukraine, the Three Horsemen will blame all of Ukraine’s massive problems on the Russian invasion. The Nazis also want to actually go to war with Russia because they hate the Russians that much. They want to see Russia destroyed, badly wounded, or broken into pieces. The Three Horsemen, ferocious haters of Mother Russia for many years, all share this flinty-eyed goal. If Russia imposes a no-fly zone, which they should do, the West will probably impose its own no-fly zone. Soon the planes will be shooting each other down which is that the Three Horsemen want. Then the Three Horseman can have the war with Russia that they so crave. In addition, once Russia attacks, Babylon will fall over itself screaming and yelling that Russia is the new Third Reich and Putin is the new Hitler. They will call for more sanctions. Also Babylon will use that to say that Russia is a violent, aggressive, expansionist state that is a menace to Europe and is too irrational to do business with. The goal of Babylon is to destroy the growing commercial and diplomatic cooperation between the whores and Russia. The first blow here was stricken by the new Nazi regime. Russia has a gas pipeline running through the Ukraine that goes to Europe. Europe gets 3 The Nazis have attacked Russia many times in the past two months. About every week, they attack Russia again, usually firing on or shelling border posts, or sometimes shelling inland. Those attacks are no mistake. The Nazis are doing it on purpose. Of course, these deliberate attacks on Russia are legally a cause for war, and Russia would be fully within its rights to attack the Nazis for the repeated deliberate attacks on its territory. In the most recent attack, the Nazis deliberately shelled a Russian village near the border. 1 Russian was killed and 2 were wounded. This is obviously a casus bellus for war. You are hearing nothing about all of these deliberate attacks on Russia because the Free Press (TM) is a state propaganda machine and is refusing to report on them. However, Russia may have fired a missile at a Nazi plane yesterday, downing it,  or perhaps the Donbass Army downed the plane. No one knows for sure who shot it down. The media of the whores, including the biggest whore of all, the UK, has gone crazy over this, almost threatening Russia with war by saying that they downed this plane. There are more lies. The media of Babylon and its whores have been insisting for a while that there are Russian troops fighting alongside the rebels in the east, and that the Russian state is providing weaponry and troops to the Donbass Army. This is not true at all, and they have never presented any evidence. However, many Russian volunteers (and that is exactly what they are – volunteers) are flooding across the border to fight the Ukies. These people are mostly Russian nationalists, but there are also Communists, nonprofits, Orthodox religious organizations, etc. that are sending forces. They are acquiring their own uniforms and weapons somehow. They are also acquiring a lot of military hardware. It is uncertain where this hardware is coming from. Babylon and the whores’ media keep saying that Russia is sending armored vehicles and weaponry to the rebels. However no evidence has yet been presented. One accusation was that three tanks were sent in. One problem with this is that three tanks is not nearly enough to do anything. If Russia were going to send in weapons and armor, wouldn’t it be sending more than something useless and meager? It makes no sense. Russia is providing food, medical care and humanitarian aid to the 160,000 refugees now in Russia and also to the civilians in the Donbass. A charge has been made that Russia is fomenting this rebellion. Obviously Russia is not happy with a psychotic Russiaphobic Nazi state on its borders. The Nazis will also probably align with NATO, in which case a virulently hostile enemy state will be swarming with NATO bases, menacing Russia right on its borders. Obviously, Russia cannot tolerate the existence of this regime, and I do not blame them. However, Russia wants regime change more than anything else in Ukraine. Russia had to grab the Crimea because it was about to lose its only southern naval base as the Nazis ended the contract with Russia and ordered the Russians to close the base. The Nazis also said that they were going to put a NATO naval base in Crimea where the Russian base was. This could not be tolerated at all, hence, Putin took back the Crimea which was always a part of Russia anyway. It is was 10 The accusation is that Russia is behind the unrest in the East, supported the secession vote, and cheered on the arming of the East and the fighting of the Nazis so Russia can annex the east. None of this is true. Russia did not particularly like the East arming themselves. And Russia was not happy at all when Donbass declared its independence. Russia definitely does not want to annex the east, however, if the Donbass insists on independence, Russia will back them on that. The independence vote was the rebels’ idea, and they are the ones who want to join Russia. What Russia wants for the East is a federalized Ukraine with autonomy for the East. That’s all they have ever wanted, and it is very reasonable. Saying that Russia wanted anything more than that is nothing but a lie. It is true that Russia is building up its forces on the border, which is a good idea. At some point, they are going to need to go in there to stop this stupid slaughter. If you read the media of Babylon and the whores, you see that the Western media have been cheering on this sickening slaughter all the way. Much of the Nazi activity in terms of shelling and bombing has been directed at infrastructure of the East. The first thing they destroy is the water plant, then the electricity plant, then the sewage treatment plant. Then they attack the factories and the enterprises. The idea is to destroy the entire economy of the Donbass. No doubt the Nazis are following the orders of Babylon when they do this. After that, the Nazis target residential areas, especially high rise apartments. They put snipers in and on the edges of cities. These snipers simply attack random people who are walking around. They idea is to terrorize people. The Nazis also target random vehicles, shooting them up and killing everyone inside. The purpose here is also to terrorize. The citizens of the East hate the Nazis, and they do not want to live under their rule. When the Nazis took over Slavyansk, people came out into the streets and shouted, “Nazis! Fascists!” at the Ukie Nazis. The Nazis are absolutely hated here, and it will be hard to govern a region that hates you. A supposed Rand Corporation (CIA) memo to the Nazis surfaced the other day. It had many recommendations for the Nazis. It recommended concentration camps or “filtration camps” for all able bodied Eastern males. All males in every conquered town should be put in these camps. For anyone suspected of fighting for or helping the rebels, the memo recommends immediate execution. This memo is said to be a fake, but soon after it appeared, the Nazis took over Slavyansk. They rounded up all males aged 18-65 and put them in concentration camps (filtration camps). They arrested a number of men and took them away, apparently on suspicion of being rebels or fighting with the rebels. Residents of Slavyansk said that these men are being executed. So you see, whether the memo was real or not, the Nazis are doing exactly what the memo recommends, which suggests it might have been real.

Moon of Alabama

This is a superb blog, widely despised by the Lunatic Western (Trot) Left, so you figure it must be good for something. When I saw Louis Proyect, poster boy for the dysfunctional Western (pro-US imperialist Trot) Left, bashing away at Moon of Alabama that seemed like a pretty good recommendation to me. The author of MOA is a fine author and the site has been around for some time. He is actually quite reasonable, which surprised me. His basic position is anti-US imperialism. He opposes the imperialism of both the Liberal Interventionist Left and Neoconservative Right (What’s the difference!?), which is after what I would call “the bipartisan foreign policy consensus.” Vietnam threatened to upset this hoary relic of the Truman Era, so the Vietnam Syndrome had to be destroyed. This was actually cited by monsters like Rumsfeld and Cheney as a major reason to invade Iraq in 2003 – to overcome the Vietnam Syndrome! What the Hell kind of reason is that to stage a Nazi-like war of aggression against a sovereign state? On Ukraine, he supports the self-defense forces in the East and Russia and opposes the Ukrainian Nazis and the Western scum backing them. On Syria, he supports Assad against the diabolical Sunni Islamists. On Iraq, he supports non-intervention. He supports the Palestinians versus the Israeli criminal regime, and for this apparently he gets constantly bashed as an anti-Semite. I have been to his comment section and it is just straight up clean Left anti-imperialists in there with few if any confused or depraved anti-Semites. Sounds like a false charge. The comments are even better than the short posts. The commenters are extremely knowledgeable and very smart. Fascinating stuff, better than anything you get in the Lie Machine called the US MSM media.

Kiev to Create 'Filtration Camps' for East Ukrainians?

Pretty incredible video. Russia Today is much-maligned, but the facts are that RT is more truthful than all US, UK and German TV news combined. RT is not at all owned by the state and until recently they were criticizing Putin a lot from the Left – they did not want Russia to get involved in the Ukraine and they refused to parrot Putin’s line on the Ukraine. So in a way, RT is frequently an opposition TV station that opposes Putin, albeit in moderate terms. As you can see, the Ukrainian Nazis are setting up concentration camps (euphemistically called filtration camps) for Eastern Ukrainians. All young to middle aged adult males (all males aged 18-65) in the cities conquered by the Nazis are rounded up and sent to these concentration camps. No one knows what is happening to them there, if they will be kept in the camps or executed. One might think that this Nazi regime had gone too far by setting up these concentration camps, but the Nazis are only following orders from their American masters. A document recently surfaced in the Ukraine that was written by the Rand Corporation (CIA front). The document cheered on the massacre in East Ukraine and further added that the Nazis needed to set up concentration camps for the Russians also to start executing people. So large numbers of executions and masses of men sent to concentration camps, instead of alienating the US, are instead exactly what Uncle Sam ordered! The Western news has been utterly silent on the slaughter taking place in East Ukraine. There has not been a peep out of the US or German news, and the British news is also mostly silent with the exception of the Daily Mail. That is because the US, German, and British media are all cooperating with the Nazis in the Ukraine. They are accomplices as it were. The Obama Administation has been contemptuous of the plight of the Eastern Ukrainians. Last week Obama called Poroshenko and urged him to continue the slaughter in the Ukraine. To reward the Nazis for their massacres, the pro-Nazi EU rewarded the Nazis by signing an association agreement between the Ukraine and the EU. This means that Ukraine’s impoverished workers can go to the EU nations and become the wetbacks of Europe, replacing highly paid European workers with cheap labor Ukrainians who work for peanuts. Obama refused to grant the besieged civilians of East Ukraine a humanitarian corridor so they can evacuate to Russia. Told that there were 150,000 refugees who came to Russia, an Obama official said that they were not refugees but instead they were people who were just visiting their families! What is really happening here is ethnic cleansing, which the US and EU supported in the former Yugoslavia when they turned their pet Croatian Nazis loose on the Serbian population in the Krajina of Croatia. These Nazis had been nurtured in Germany, namely Munich, for decades. Munich is a sort of Nazi Central for Germany. This was nearly a Nazi headquarters during the war, and after the war, most of the Nazi structure was simply rolled intact into existing institutions. The Ukrainian Nazis waging a war against the USSR had their post-war headquarters in Munich. It is even worse than that. I suspect that Merkel supports the Ukrainian Nazis out of shared ideology. In fact, the rightwing German Christian Democratic Party has deep Nazi roots that go back decades. Three Russian journalists have been murdered by the Nazis, two of them after they were detained by the Nazi troops. Most of the offensive is being waged by Right Sector, Svoboda, and private oligarch militia forces who have been rolled into the radical National Guard as most of the Ukrainian Army has shown little will to fight. I suspect that most of the Ukrainian Army has been relegated to rearguard positions. Large sections of the Ukrainian Army have already gone over to the self-defense forces. Earlier, the US news reported an incident where 13 Ukrainian troops were killed. The US propaganda networks said they were killed by the self-defense forces. In fact, they were assassinated by Right Sector forces who rode up to their position and gunned them down. Why did they shoot their own people? Because like many Ukrainian troops, they were defying orders and refusing to attack the self-defense forces. So to punish them for not attacking, the Nazis gunned them down. Recently the self-defense forces retreated from Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, giving the cities up to the Nazis. Slavyansk was completely encircled, and the self-defense forces had to break through enemy lines. However, they did this with minimal casualties. Some platoons were left behind in the city to harass the Nazis occupying the town. They are armed with automatic weapons and RPG’s. The Nazis have not been warmly welcomed in Slavyansk. Residents have poured out of their homes, lining the streets and shouting, “Fascists!” at the Nazi forces as they move through town. The Nazis are reportedly going house to house looking for anyone with ties to the self-defense forces or who helped them. People are being taken away and residents report that at least some of them are being executed. One can spin the Slavyansk tactical retreat any way you want to. But look at this way. The self-defense forces first appeared in Slavyansk two months with a ragged group of 150 with few uniforms and fewer weapons. Two months later, 2,000 highly equipped troops looking for all intents and purposes like a regular army retreated from the city. Among them were 100 armored vehicles and 20 tanks! So in the last two months, the numbers and armament of the self-defense forces have grown exponentially. There are reports that large numbers of fascists from all over Europe are converging on the Ukraine to volunteer to fight alongside the Ukrainian Nazis. This was uncovered in an Al Jazeera report. The self-defense forces have retreated to the large city of Donetsk which is much easier to defend. The are few if any Russian soldiers among the self-defense forces. This is a Western media lie. However, there are many volunteers from Russia among them. The Russian government is supplying the self-defense forces with uniforms, food, humanitarian and medical aid. There is no good evidence that the Russian state is supplying the self-defense forces with weaponry. However, they seem to be somehow acquiring a lot of weaponry. Outside of the Russian state, there are many Russian organizations who are helping the self-defense forces in any way they can. This includes political parties such as the Zyuganov’s Russian Communist Party (who have sent their militia or armed wing), private, nonprofit and Orthodox religious organizations. In other words, the self-defense forces are being supplied by a number of Russian nongovernmental organizations. They are supplying them with nonlethal aid, money, food and men. I am not sure if they are also supplying them with weapons. Although the Russian government has not committed any men or arms to the conflict, the stone truth is that it is looking the other way while these non-state actors are supplying self-defense forces. That is the best way to describe it. Anything else you hear is a lie. ISIS rampaging across the Levant, Nazis marching east towards Russia. It is an ugly era we are living in.

US Liberal-Left Switching Sides on the Ukraine Issue

The nonstop corporate media propaganda vilifying Russia and supporting the Ukrainian Nazis has had a profound effect. Large numbers of the US and British publics now support the Nazis, even as they slaughter Eastern Ukrainians and level cities in the heart of Europe. As I have reported before, US support for the Nazis has been across the board, from the Hard Left all the way to the Hard Right. However, that seems to be falling apart. I did an impressionistic survey of comments on articles dealing with the Ukraine on Daily Kos and Alternet. Daily Kos is the website of the base of the Democratic Party, which is really the left wing of the Democratic Party. Although some in this group are critical of Obama, most of them pretty much support all Democrats against all Republicans in a partisan manner. A man named Markos runs the site, and he is a big Democratic Party insider. Alternet is to the left of the Democratic Party base. These are folks who are attacking Obama from the left and saying they will vote 3rd party. Results were that on Daily Kos: 5 4 In other words, the base of the Democratic Party is now evenly split, 50-50 on Ukraine. That’s not good news for Obama. I feel that this 50-50 split will widen in the coming days and more of the base goes over to the pro-Russian side. The Alternet results were: 7 2 So the US Left now strongly supports Russia and opposes the Ukraine. It took them a while to come around, but come around they did. What is fascinating is that huge numbers of Americans on the liberal-Left have managed to avoid being brainwashed by the constant anti-Russia, pro-Ukraine propaganda flooding out of the entire US corporate media with no exception. These people also had knowledge of many events that were never reported or reported falsely by the US media. Probably the only way they could have gotten those facts was via the Internet. So it turns out that many folks are getting their news from the Internet via non-MSM corporate sites (like this one)! This bodes very ill for the US Deep State, both parties, the US corporate media and the US corporate-imperialist elite. This elite stays in power in part via continuous brainwashing propaganda using the corporate media that they control. However, this media monopoly is now gone and Americans are no longer subject to brainwash and only brainwash. They have a media source that is completely out of the control of the US elite, running wild and exposing these American scums for exactly what they are. In other words, the elite is losing their control over us. Good news. However, expect to see some major initiatives by the US corporate-imperialist elite to deal with this problem by somehow taking over the Internet or censoring it somehow. We may even see arrests and harassment of journalists and DOS attacks on non-MSM news sites.

"Not a Single Step Backwards"

The enemy throws new forces to the front without regard to heavy losses and penetrates deep into Russia, seizing new regions, destroying our cities and villages, and violating, plundering and killing the Soviet population…The population of our country, who love and respect the Soviet Army, start to be discouraged in her, and lose faith in the Soviet Army, and many curse the Soviet Army for leaving our people under the yoke of the German oppressors, and itself running east. Some stupid people at the Front calm themselves with talk that we can retreat further to the east, as we have a lot of territory, a lot of ground, a lot of population and that there will always be much bread for us. They want to justify the infamous behavior at the Front. But such talk is falsehood, helpful only to our enemies. Each commander, Soviet Army soldier and political commissar should understand that our means are not limitless. The territory of the Soviet state is not a desert, but people – workers, peasants, intelligentsia, our fathers, mothers, wives, brothers, children..Therefore it is necessary to eliminate talk that we have the capability endlessly to retreat, that we have a lot of territory, that our country is great and rich, that there is a large population, and that bread always will be abundant. Such talk is false and parasitic, it weakens us and benefits the enemy… This leads to the conclusion, it is time to finish retreating. Not one step back! Such should now be our main slogan. It is necessary to defend each position, each meter of our territory, up to the last drop of blood, to cling for each plot of Soviet land and to defend it as long as possible. Our Motherland is experiencing hard days. We must stop, and then to throw back and smash the enemy regardless of cost. The Germans are not so strong, as it seems to the panic-mongers. They strain their last forces. To withstand their impact now, means to ensure our victory in some months. Joseph Stalin, Order 227 issued to the Red Army, July 28, 1942

When is Putin going to issue a similar order? Putin must intervene now to stop the US-EU Ukie Nazis. It’s imperative. We cannot have this mass Nazi slaughter in the heart of Europe. However, if you study the history of warfare in Russia, Russia and later the USSR have often tended to retreat and retreat as a strategic move. They retreat and retreat, and then they turn around, attack and rout the enemy. All Russian/Soviet forces using the strategic retreat philosophy defeated the invaders.

"Russia's Western Frontier Has Become a Desert"

Another great piece from the Saker. He has an excellent point. It’s time to give up on the Ukies. They are determined to marry into the West and become the West’s newest colony. It will ruin them economically, but they don’t care. Ukraine no longer has any connection with Russia. There are no more two brother peoples. That’s all over. Time to let them go. They’re Nazis anyway. Let the Europeans have them! He makes some excellent points about Western Ukraine. As you can see, every time Russia was invaded, the invaders came through the Western Ukraine. Since 1600, Western Ukraine was chopped off Russia by various Catholic Western powers to be used a foothold inside Russia and a base for attacking Russia. This started around 1600 when it was conquered by the Polish-Ukrainian Commonwealth. Around this time, the Ukrainian branch of the Russian Orthodox Church split off and joined the Eastern Catholic rite, aligning themselves with Rome, the West and as we shall see, the perennial enemies and invaders of Russia. The Russians have never forgiven the Ukrainians for what they see as the heresy and treason of this schism. Later Western, Catholic Napoleon moved into Russia via the Ukraine. Then the Austro-Hungarian Empire carved off the Western Ukraine and made it a part of that Western Catholic Empire. During WW1, the Ukrainians rounded up tens of thousands of Russians in their land and sent them to a concentration camp in Romania where many of them died. This region and especially the Rusyn region to the south, has been the scene of many Russianizer-Russiaphobe battles since the last half of the 1800’s. One part of the population wanted to Russianize and maintain a close relationship with, or even annex themselves to, Russia and the other group saw themselves as Ukrainians and wanted to become an independent state. They spent a good part of the time from 1850-1921 persecuting each other. In World War 2, once again, the Western Catholic invaders, this time the Germans again in the form of the Nazis, moved into Russia via the Ukraine. Many Western Ukrainians greeted them with flowers and gleefully assisted in the Jew- and Commie-killing. Their leader was a man named Bandera, who allied himself closely with the Nazis. During WW2, there was a short-lived pro-Nazi Vichy-like regime in Western Ukraine. Bandera’s group not only killed many Jews, but they also slaughtered many Poles. The reason for this is uncertain but perhaps it was a Ukraine for Ukrainians thing. Bandera is still the hero of the Western Ukrainians who are also voracious anti-Semites. Many Western Ukrainian militias openly use Nazi memorabilia. During Western Ukrainian protests, Nazi graffiti often appears on the nearby buildings. Swastikas in particular are favored. And with the birth of the Maidan, as we can see, once again the anti-Orthodox West has once again captured the Ukraine, installed another fanatical anti-Russian government, and had plans to use the Western Ukraine once again as a base to attack Holy Mother Russia. So you can see why Russians are alarmed, to put it mildly.

Russia’s Western Frontier Has Become a Desert

Warning: the following is not an analysis, it is a “cri du coeur” ! Looking at the photo of the three stooges oh so proud of having “prevailed” over that evil Russia I have very mixed feelings. On one that, I have a sense of immense disgust. No, not for the the Eurobureaucrats or for Poroshenko – they are true to character. No, my disgust is directed at that sorry pseudo-ethnicity called “the Ukrainians” and which now has fractured into two mutually exclusive groups: the real “Ukrainians” – the Russians from “core Russia” (which is the real meaning of the expressions “Malorossia” or “Small Russia”) who live on Russia’s western frontier (the real meaning of the word “u-krainy“) and the pseudo-Ukrainian ex-homo sovieticus (I call them Ukies) who mutated into pseudo-Europeans and who now fancy themselves as “Europeans” just because they volunteered to become the next Anglo-Zionist colony. These are the folks who traded a 1000-year old history for the (imaginary) prize which the capitalists have been dangling in front of their collective noses like a carrot before a donkey. Two things characterize these folks: they are phenomenally ignorant of pretty much everything, but especially of their own history, and their credulity is quite literally infinite. In other words – they are terminally stupid. As for their spiritual or cultural values, they don’t extend beyond what is shown on a typical commercial on TV. It is at this point my thinking that I move from disgust to relief. Relief that modern Russia will not have to deal with such a morally degenerate and spiritually corrupt population. I am Russian. My family roots go far back into the Russian middle-ages and for me each phase in Russian history – whether good or bad – has its own spiritual significance. From the birth of Russia at the baptism of Saint Vladimir, to the heroic resistance of Saint Alexander Nevsky, to the gradual formation of a new Russia under Ivan III, to the tragic period of Ivan IV, the Stoglav, the tragic Old Rite Schism, the spiritual desert of the reign of Peter I, to the rebirth of Russia through the times of Alexander II and Alexander III and to the martyrdom and final transition form an earthly empire to a spiritual reality under the Czar-Martyr Nicholas II – each of these moments in history can only be understood through spiritual eyes and not by means of materialistic categories. And even though modern Russia is still spiritually sick, very sick, I clearly perceive the signs of a spiritual revival, or a gradual shedding of the materialistic delusions which had been imposed upon the Russian people during the 20th century. What some (correctly) call a “clash of civilizations” between Russia and the West is a reality. Likewise, when the Ukrainian propaganda speaks of a “civilizational choice” it is inadvertently expressing a profound spiritual truth. Russia is barely standing up, still shaking and in many ways confused, but already it is resisting the capitalist rot which is corroding the western civilization and Russia is already (correctly) perceived as a threat by the western plutocracy. If this is what a weak and still confused Russia is capable of, just imagine what it could do if it fully recovered its true spiritual and cultural identity and strength! So this for me is a crucial question: does the slowly healing Russia really need to live under the same cultural/civilizational roof with the kind of folks which brought Iatseniuk or Poroshenko to power? I say let Europe deal with them! In fact, the Ukies and the EU richly *deserve* each other. Yes, I know, Kiev is the cradle of the entire Russian civilization, but did Christ Himself not say:

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Matt. 5:29).

I don’t want Russia to perish for the Ukraine, much less for for the pseudo-Ukraine I call “Banderastan”. The Pope’s Crusaders came from the West. Napoleon’s Masons came from the West. The German and Austro-Hungarian imperialists came from the West. Then the Nazis came from the West. Now the Anglo-Zionists are coming from the West. In the past, each time the “outer-Russians” (the correct translation of “Grand Russians”) came and saved the Ukraine from these invaders and they did that a a huge cost for Russia. But at least in the past the real Ukrainians never confused the occupier and the liberator. Nowadays this has changed. In fact, the modern “Ukrainians” think that they are feeling a deep kinship with the invader, they even identify with him. I think that Russia should stop pretending that this is not happening and that these two are “brother” nations. Okay, maybe they were brothers in the past, but now all they share is the brotherhood of Cain and Abel. There is no continuity between Saint Vladimir and Poroshenko and what we are observing in Kiev today is what the Scripture call the “the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place“. And the Ukies like it that way. They have no use for holiness. I say let them have it! Yes, of course, there is Novorussia which Russia cannot and will not abandon. And Crimea will forever remain part of Russia. And there are still real Russians in Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Mariupol, Nikolaev, Odessa and even in Kiev. But these Russians either cannot or don’t want to fight to free their land from the current western occupier and they need to live with the consequences of this choice. As for the rest of Russia, I hope to see it turn to the North and the East were its real future lies. Let the EU deal with Banderastan, let Banderastan deal with the EU and let them jointly enjoy their role as faithful servants of the plutocratic elite which administers the European Anglo-Zionist protectorate on behalf of the USA. Let the Ukies, the Balts and the East-Europeans all race each other to see who will get the title of “employee of the month” from Uncle Sam. Let them bask in their new-found pride to have finally become full members of the civilization of Walmart and McDonald’s. And let them keep on digging a deep trench all along the Russian-Ukrainian border. While it is, of course, militarily useless (what in the world are the Ukie generals thinking?!) is a a fantastic symbol of what the ex-Ukraine now “EU-associated Banderastan has become”. Russian kids should be bussed in from their schools and shown this trench while their teachers explain to them what kind of people dug this trench and why. Russia’s western frontier has become a desert. It is high time for Russia to accept this reality and act on it.

Want to Work in US Journalism? Try on Your Straightjacket First

I have a question. If you are Communist and a Green Party member, are you of the Marxist-Leninist school of thought or the Trotskyite school of thought? I myself am a centerish-rightwinger with a lot of far-left influence. Well actually I may not be a rightwinger at all, but the current bipartisan infestation of both parties by imperialism, Washingtonian federalism, political correctness, and economic irresponsibility makes me repulsed by both parties. The Dems and the G.O.P are merely polarized extremities of the same spectrum, and originated as a single party anyways. I guess when I was about 7 or 8 I was a classical Objectivist Libertarian. My dad was a high level executive for Toyota and made a lot of money, so I was naturally greedy, following the immaturity of my prepubescent brain. When I moved to the United States in 2011, my dad began working as a stockbroker dealing in microstocks. I saw how he fucked people over daily and ruined a lot of lives. By the time I was 12 I became sort of a hardcore communal Christianity type commie. I guess I was reviled by the actions of my father and started to feel sympathetic to the plight of the proletariat masses. I felt more in common with the ideologies of Mao Zedong rather than my former hero Chiang Kai-Shek. I also used to be enthralled at the prospect of ruling with an iron fist, and disposing of those who question your methods with a McCarthyism like demagogic appeal to the stereotypes the common people have of communism. Well I guess now that I am not decided one way or another. I guess I still have a lot of time to think about it. I do wish to become a journalist when I grow up, but as a correspondent for what? Fox or CNN? Lib or Con?

You have had an interesting political evolution. Really I am just a socialist as opposed to a real hardcore Commie. But I think the people the Trots call Stalinists a lot better than the Western Trots themselves, who are insane and represent everything wrong about the Western Left in general. Most of the Western Left is Trot or Trot inspired. It doesn’t matter whether you are a conservative journo or a liberal one. There are plenty of jobs for both. But the liberal journos in the US are not very liberal. They are less liberal than Democratic Party liberals, who aren’t very liberal anyway. You have to support the bipartisan foreign policy consensus and the bipartisan neoliberal economic consensus and it would help to support the PC Cultural Marxism which is all the rage (see the bipartisan support for amnesty). You must support US exceptionalism and US imperialism. If you do not support these things, you will be told very quickly to shape up or ship out and if you do not, you will be rapidly fired. All US journalists have very strict limits on what they can report without being fired by their corporate masters and their attack dogs, the editors. The US press is a controlled propaganda institution that speaks with a single voice on the big questions of the day. Look at the Iraq War. Name on large newspaper, newsmagazine, TV news or radio news station that opposed that war either in the run-up or in the months afterwards. Name one, one. Name one large MSM outlet, right or left, that is taking Russia’s side on the Ukraine matter. Name one. See? It is a state-controlled propaganda institution, like Pravda in the USSR.

Russia Has Much Greater Freedom of the Press Than the US Does

Dr. Cruel wrote:

Of course the Russians reject American free market “greed.” It would interfere with Putin’s greed. And people who disagree with Putin have an unlucky propensity to getting their heads bashed in by Russian thugs – especially if they’re journalists. The Russian people reject the American neoliberal model. I am not sure personally how much Putin has enriched himself.

There are many, many Putin critics all over Russia. They run many of the nation’s media outlets. Every day they are on TV, the radio, in papers and publications denouncing him in the strongest terms. And here in the US, we have a single corporate media with one and only one voice and message. The US media may as well be Pravda. Freedom of the press is defined by diversity of opinion. Where there is no diversity of opinion, there is no freedom of the press. Russia has far more freedom of speech and freedom of the press than we do.

The American Sheeple

They are so easy to manipulate!
They are so easy to manipulate!
Wow, manipulating the American sheeple is almost as easy as turning on a light-switch. All they have to do is get the US Free Press (TM) on the side of the latest imperial adventure. That’s never hard to do when 10 Of course, the US Left is pretty much dead. Not only that, but it’s barely even Left anymore. Whenever US imperialism is hatching its latest plot against humanity, it always to get the US “Left” on board. You can always round up folks like this horrifying “anti-fascist” Anton Shekhovtsov and Louis Proyect. Shekhovtsov is a pro-US imperialist, pro-Ukrainian Nazi, Ukrainian nationalist. What the heck is an antifa Ukrainian nationalist anyway? Isn’t that a contradiction in terms? Proyect is the awful leader of the Marxmail list, which itself is full of many a “Marxist” useful idiot cheerleading for US imperialism. Because, you know, the Ukrainian Nazi revolution was a revolution (according to the Trots on Proyect’s blog), and Trots need to support “revolution” everywhere! Even Nazi revolutions, fascist revolutions, fake color revolution conspiracies run by US imperialism, revolutions staged by the CIA using local rightwing proxies of this or that type, no matter – they’re all revolutionaries! When the US Left starts cheerleading for the machinations of US imperialism in the name of “anti-fascism” or “revolution” or the Bullshit Cause of the Day, the “Left” itself is pretty much of a joke, and it isn’t even Left anymore either. What is it? Who knows? A bunch of irrelevant insane people? With a Left like that, we may as well say screw it and make alliance with the Right. If rightwing nationalist parties in Europe are supporting the Russian people fighting resisting Nazi exterminationists in East Ukraine, so be it. Rightwing nationalists aren’t exactly optimal, but at least they are fighting US imperialism and opposing the EU/IMF road to serfdom. We’ll take all the allies we can get. And frankly, I would rather sit down and have a cup of coffee with a rightwing nationalist than some “Leftist” or “antifa” down on the front-lines amid the tracer bullets, fighting the good fight for US imperialism, the EU, the IMF and the neoliberal project in general. In wartime, you don’t make your volunteers take ideology tests. They show up at the recruiting station with a gun, fine, you send them to the front. War is no time for ideological purity tests.

US Foreign Policy: Nation State Destruction

Under folks like “Democrat” Anne-Marie “Humanitarian Bomber” Slaughter and “Republican” George “Mission Accomplished” Bush, US foreign policy really boils down to the removal of nation-states either by invasion, mercenary insurgency or armed coup. What’s left over is a failed state with little authority in most of its territory which is then ruled by various US proxy forces such as Nazis, fascists, warlords, tribal chiefs and Islamist fundamentalist idiots. In Libya, we destroyed a brutal yet stable nation-state and replaced it with anarchy, a failed state apparatus and rule by tribes, warlords and radical Al Qaeda types with a continuous low level of violence. In Syria, we destroyed a brutal yet stable nation-state and replaced with utter chaos, a mad civil war that left 180,000 dead and 9 million refugees and most of the nation in utter ruins outside of the state’s rule. Radical Islamists control vast swathes of land and atrocities occur continuously. The truth is that Syria has been destroyed. In Iraq, the US removed a very brutal yet stable nation-state and replaced it with utter chaos, and a continuous insurgency followed by a savage civil war that has left 1.4 million Iraqis dead. Al Qaeda types control vast swathes of land, and Ayatollah types hold sway in the south. Iraq lies in ruins. In Afghanistan, the US removed an evil yet fairly stable state under the Taliban and replaced it with military occupation and a failed state which barely has jurisdiction or control outside of Kabul city limits. Most of the land lies in ruins and a vast number of died for no particularly good reason. Afghanistan basically lies in ruins. In Ukraine, the US replaced a stable but corrupt leader who refused to bow to IMF debt slavery and be a nation-seller. A man who got cold feet when it came down to the nitty-gritty of selling out his people bailed on the devastating deal being shoved down his throat. The US then funded some of its pet Nazis to riot in the streets, kill cops and put snipers on buildings shooting dozens in false flag operations. An insane Nazi regime soon took over and immediately declared war on every minority in the country, especially the Russians. They also for all intents and purposes declared war on Russia. The Russians in the East, naturally alarmed at the rise of this new Nazi power in Europe, logically decided they wanted no part of this mess and voted to secede. A huge military operation was then launched on the people of the East resulting in hundreds dead and entire cities in ruins while America cheered on the slaughter and called for more killing and destruction. Much of Eastern Ukraine now lies in ruins. In Yemen, a weak government has lost control of much of the countryside where tribal militias and Al Qaeda type Islamists control giant swathes of territory. I am not sure what it was like before 9-11, but I do not think it was this bad. Tunisia, previously a very stable state, is now destabilized by invading Al Qaeda types from Libya flooded with weapons from the overthrown Libyan government. Mubarak was removed in Egypt, and in the resulting protests, many died. Elections were held, and Muslim Brotherhood Islamists won. Quite a bit of protest and some violence then ensued. The MB started enacting a lot of anti-democratic laws, and al-Sisi, a Nasserite style general in the Egyptian Army, seized power along with other officers. The MB protested, and many MB protesters were massacred in cold blood. Death sentences were levied against 600 protestors for a protest in which one cop was killed. Attacks against Egyptian Coptic Christians increased dramatically. The result is a chaotic Egypt that was much more stable under Mubarak.

The Polish Government Is 100% Behind the Ukranian Nazi Regime

See here. I have known this for quite some time now. Many of the Maidan terrorists, particularly the Right Sector Nazis, were trained at a special institute in Poland months before the Maidan riots and the subsequent coup. NATO and the US knew about this and may have been involved in it. This is more evidence that the Maidan riots and the subsequent Nazi coup have been planned for some time. Poland is a logical source for cooperation with the Ukrainians. Poles hate Russians as much as Ukrainians or Georgians do. This goes back to ancient feuds in this part of the world. There have been Catholic-Orthodox wars on the western border of Russia since the early 1600’s. The Russians see the Western border as the place where the Catholic West keeps trying to attack Russia. The West sees the Catholic nations on Russia’s Western flank as jeopardized by an expansive Russian imperialism. There were more wars later on. Much of this region then came under the influence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Germany. Before and during World War 1, there was  great deal of fighting between the West and Russia, particularly in the region of Ukraine and Ruthenia. These regions have been home to “anti-Russians” (Catholics who look to the West) and pro-Russians for a long time now. The pro-Russians often call themselves Russians (see the names “Rusyn” and “Ruthenia” – the name “Rusyn” was adopted by a Russianizing group of these people who speak a language closely related to Ukrainian but who hate Ukrainians. Ukrainians say that Ruthenians do not exist and Rusyn is a Ukrainian dialect, not a language. They say that Ruthenia is a part of the Ukraine. During World War 1, Ukrainians and Ruthenians working with the Austro-Hungarian Empire arrested many “Russianizers” and put them in a camp in Southeastern Europe. This was for all intents and purposes a concentration camp, and conditions were so poor that many of the men sent there died. Western Ukraine, particularly Galicia and Lvov, have traditionally been part of Poland, Lithuania, Poland-Lithuania, or Austria-Hungary. All of these are Western and Westernizing Catholic entities who look to Rome. Russian Orthodox call these people Papists and hate them. The Catholics in this region tend to hate and fear the Russians whom they regard as the 800 pound gorilla in the room. This hatred has been going on forever and shows no signs of abating anytime soon. It is from this rancid soil that Zbigniew Brezhinski, who, as a man, an influence and a theory, is really the brains behind the current “Destroy Russia Now” project in the Ukraine. Brezhinski is the hardest of the hardcore Russian-haters. As you might expect, he is a Pole. He is also one of the highest ranking agents of US imperialism and an important theorist of US imperial policy (read his books). Brezhinski’s father was an official in the fascist government that held power in the interwar period in Poland. In 1918, a virulently anti-Russian ideology was hatched in Poland. This hate and fear driven ideology saw Russia as the main threat to the existence of Poland. The project, a true conspiracy, involved working with minorities in Russia to chop Russia up into as many pieces as possible, thereby delivering the death by a thousand cuts and rendering Russia harmless and impotent. This same ideology has since been taken up by various Georgian regimes and is the main ideology behind the Ukrainian Nazi government. As you can see at the link, the former security adviser to the government of Poland was photographed outside of Slaviansk talking to the current Nazi President of the Ukraine. This man, a virulent Russia-hater, has been trained as an anti-Russia agent by the US government State Department in Israel, Germany, France and the US.

Two Statements by Igor Strelkov, June 16, 2014

More from the Saker. This one includes two statements from Igor Strelkov, the military leader of the Donbass National Republic Army. Urgent Statement/Interview by Igor Strelkov:

Immediate and Wide-scale Assistance from Russia is Needed

source: by Alexander Kots and Dmitry Steshin translated into English by Gleb Bazov Original here. Video  here. The Commander in Chief of the DPR militia believes that, if Moscow does not intervene, the self-defense units will be unable to withstand [the onslaught] of the Ukrainian army. The Commander in Chief of the Donetsk People’s Republic’s militia told us about the massive artillery shelling of the residential neighborhoods of Kramatorsk and offered an unpromising prognosis. Right now you are hearing explosions, the enemy is shelling the outskirts of Slavyansk and the city of Kramatorsk with several batteries of heavy howitzer artillery. The massive strikes are directed exclusively at the residential neighborhoods and industrial complexes. While Slavyansk has, by now, become accustomed to constant, unending, daily, and nightly artillery strikes, in Kramatorsk there is now a state of panic. For the first time, apartment buildings and private houses there have been hit with heavy ammunition. There are fires, explosions, a multitude of dead and wounded. This is being done to show all the cities of Donbass exactly what will happen to them in the future. They have nearly obliterated Slavyansk. Almost half the city’s population has fled to Russia. Now they will obliterate Kramatorsk, and Kramatorsk is larger than Slavyansk. We will end up with another several tens of thousands of refugees, the major part of which will end up in Russia. As far as I am aware, Russia is entirely unready to receive tens, hundreds thousands, and then millions of refugees. After Kramatorsk will follow Druzhkovka, Konstantinovka, Gorlovka, Makeevka, Donetsk, Lugansk, and then – everywhere else. We can see perfectly well how the Ukrainian army acts. They do not strike at the positions of the militia, they strike at the infrastructure. They promise to grant passage to the repair brigades, and then they shoot at them. They claim that we hit our own schools and water-purification facilities. As if we do it all, like terrorists, while they have nothing to do with this destruction. A brief prognosis. The enemy has transferred its main infantry and tank forces to the north of the Lugansk oblast and to the south of the Donetsk oblast. Each day they advance by 10-15 kilometers, methodically cutting off the “rebellious” regions from the border with Russia. Cutting us off from any and all help. Cutting us off from arms and ammunition, which, hypothetically, could someday be supplied, from food and medicines. I can assure you that, if Russia does not take immediate steps, they will achieve success. Even the several thousand militia, which are now concentrated along the border, armed with several tanks, a few artillery pieces, and perhaps even a large number of machine guns and grenade launchers, will be unable to withstand for a long time the aviation, artillery, and the multitude of tanks. The ration of tanks can be estimated at 1 to 500, of APC’s – 1 to 300, and of artillery – 1 to 800. There is no point to even mention the aviation. A week, two, three, maybe even a month, will pass and the most battle-ready detachments of the militia will be bled dry and, sooner or later, will be routed and eliminated. This, how the enemy is acting, we have observed in Mariupol. They surrounded the city, blocked it with checkpoints, using their equipment, and cut it off from any possibility of help. After that, their punitive units entered. These special units, composed of the so-called volunteers, who, in reality, are mercenaries, the Azov, Donbass and other such battalions. Once done, they clean-up the city of the few militia there and move on to the next city. And, meanwhile, a garrison is moved into this city, which takes up key positions, routes all the “malcontents,” and places them in filtration camps…That is what awaits us. Now let’s talk about the social debate, where two alternatives are offered: a full-scale war and non-interference in the affairs of Novorossiya. What this non-interference represents is – inculcation into the Russian society of a belief that the local Russians, by themselves and without Russia’s help, will be able to defend Novorossiya, repel the enemy’s onslaught and hold for as long as may be necessary. So as to give Russia time to make some kind of decision. The second alternative is a belief that the commencement of war is not in Russia’s interest, that it will lead to serious economic consequences. I can say this: the war that is, even now, already ongoing, will end for Russia disastrously in an economic sense. Russia will suffer economically from this war because it did not intervene in time, did not introduce peacekeeping forces. Russia could have occupied the entire Donetsk and Lugansk regions when they rose up against the adversary. It could have been done painlessly right after the referenda. But Russia did not intervene and from that moment on we started to lose ground. As it now stands, a peacekeeping intervention is impossible without engaging in a large-scale war, without aviation strikes, without artillery fire, without an incursion with tanks, without a partial mobilization of the Russian army. I will tell you honestly, we are biding time, we are mobilizing our paltry resources and people. But we cannot catch up to the enemy. Some think that the Ukrainian army will fall apart, should you only spit at it. It will fall apart once it meets a counterpart able to match it at least part-way. But what we have here is not even a fight between David and Goliath, it’s an encounter between an elephant and an ant. An ant can cause lots of pain biting an elephant. But even an old and sick elephant will crush an ant. Even if its legs buckle, the elephant will crush it with its sheer mass. It should not be forgotten that the enemy receives economic, financial and military aid from all of Europe and the United States. The hryvna floats after two month of war not because it’s a stable currency. This is just ridiculous. How could anyone think that we can stand our ground when our enemy receives such massive support? Yes, we can hold Slavyansk a month, maybe a month and a half, but sooner or later they will still eliminate us. We cannot transfer our garrison to another city without abandoning this territory. We can organize five Slavyansks, which will be encircled and eliminated, together with their populations. There is only one alternative to war or complete abandonment of Novorossiya – immediate de facto recognition of Novorossiya and Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the provision of real, large-scale and urgent military assistance to them. I am addressing Russia as a Commander in Chief of the Donetsk People’s Republic’s militia and as a patriot of Russia and the Russian people. You can take it as a address from the name of the entire Donetsk militia. Now, as for the tactical situation report. At this time, there are five howitzer batteries of the enemy near Slavyansk. They are comprised of twenty full-fledged heavy artillery pieces, with calibers ranging from 122 mm and larger. Four to five mortar batteries, with calibers 120 mm and 80 mm. The enemy has fortified its positions well, and its infantry numbers exceed ours. Furthermore, the enemy forces at each of its checkpoints equal our garrisons in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk combined. And I mean our entire garrisons. I am not even raising the equipment’s functional state. We have not even one tank. The enemy has them at each checkpoint. There are six tanks at their checkpoint near the turn onto Krasniy Liman. If I were to send the militia to assault this checkpoint, they would be hit with mortar fire in open field before even getting there. And then, from up high, the enemy aviation would bomb them, then the howitzer fire, and then the tanks would crush them. And what we’ll get is a repetition of the battle at the Donetsk airport, except with even higher casualties. When the militia, bled dry, would retreat to their starting positions, they would have no means not only to advance, but also to defend. And this breakdown is the same on every front. We can bite the enemy, we can attack from the flanks, we can operate in sabotage-intelligence groups and destroy 1-2 armored elements a day. All made possible solely by the heroism of the fighters, who can penetrate into the enemy’s deep rear and hit him point-blank. But heroism alone, armed with light arms, grenade launchers and several mortars, cannot change the balance of the battle. We can only defend. Unfortunately, the enemy has superiority over us on every section of the battlefield. There are rumors that we have armored vehicles, tanks. Never are there more lies than during war and fishing. I know that Alexander Mozgovoi conducted a good operation, seized some trophies, destroyed a few others. But all this is peanuts. The enemy can replace any number of destroyed or seized equipment from the endless Soviet reserves. And we don’t even have a secure rear for repairing armored elements, we have no spare parts or supplies. One APC cannot stand against 20-30. And even the three old, aged tanks, which were, with great difficulty, restored in Gorlovka, even these three tanks cannot match thirty. Or, rather, sixty, ninety tanks. Ukrainian tanks can be counted in the hundreds. We won’t even speak about the Su-25 flying overhead – we do shoot them down, from time to time, but they maintain full superiority in the air. ——-

Urgent Appeal from Igor Strelkov, June 16, 2014

Source. Translated From Russian Original. The enemy is engaged in massive bombardment of Kramatorsk, using howitzers at the Karachun Mount and in the vicinity of water purification facilities between Slavyansk and Kramatorsk (they have a stronghold there). There are numerous casualties and fires in the city. They are bombarding both the industrial sector and the residential neighborhoods. The population is in a state of panic –to date, Kramatorsk had not experienced such massive artillery shelling. What is more, militia objects have been spared – the strikes are not against them. Why, you ask? The answer is elementary – in order to force tens of thousands of refugees to flood into Russia. Genocide and ethnic cleansing in their purest form. I have decided to offer up to universal review a text from my personal correspondence (as appropriately amended). I ask that you distribute it. It is no longer possible to keep silent, hoping that someone “on the mainland comes to his senses.” As I have become accustomed to anticipate events several steps ahead, I am in a state of utter “prostration.” The observable destruction of the economy and the population I anticipated even a month and a half ago, and, in order to avoid it, called then for a peacekeeping intervention. It is now too late – peacekeepers will not be able to intervene without a battle. Now I am calling for the provision of immediate and wide-scale military assistance. But no assistance has come. In a week or two (and possibly earlier) a substantial part of the military detachments of DPR and LPR may be completely routed. The reason is the insurmountable ratio in heavy weaponry … And when Donetsk and Lugansk are completely blocked and surrounded, like Slavyansk, the following question will rear its head – either Russia will:

  1. Commit to intervention with full force (an intervention the Ukies are openly provoking); or,
  2. Completely abandon Novorossiya (a possibility the Ukies are dearly hoping for).

And I am not at all sure that this dilemma will be resolved via the first option. More likely than not, it will be the opposite. We can burn down even a hundred APC’s and kill even five thousand troops, but the overall balance of forces will hardly change. Well, for example, the [manpower] ratio will become 1 to 14 instead of 1 to 15 … Every day we are forced to relinquish another large settlement – we have neither the men nor the guns to defend them. At the same time, we have no ability to retake any of them – because we have nothing to match the Ukies’ heavy weaponry. All we can do is engage them in defense more or less successfully. So, what reason is there for optimism? From our own minor successes? They are purely tactical. And, meanwhile, we have long ago started losing the strategic engagement. I see open sabotage in the approach taken by the Russian officials at the highest-level in relation to Novorossiya. It shows in everything. I dare say that this sabotage is fully conscious. Otherwise, there is no explanation for the fact that DPR and LPR have yet to be recognized even de facto and that they receive no supplies of such badly needed weapons and equipment. Yes, Putin has effectively disavowed (and I wonder – at whose suggestion?) the pledges of standing ready to protect the Russian civilian population of Donbass. No alternative whatsoever has been proposed. If there is no military aid – the military defeat of DPR and LPR is inevitable. Whether this defeat comes a week earlier or a month later does not matter. The enemy will cut us off from the border and will methodically suffocate us, “cleansing” the territory in the process and, in one go, forcing out into Russia a million or two of utterly deprived and embittered refugees (I trust the consequences for the economy and the social sphere are obvious). And then, groups of “grateful oligarchs” will come to Putin with sorrowful faces and offer as their spokesperson the “great schemer” Surkov, who will explain, in a quiet and insinuating voice, that: “We did everything that we could, but these…these good-for-nothing Donetsk bandits themselves failed it all themselves, and we can give them no help without risking nuclear war…They punished themselves…It is not worth it to take a risk… We need to persevere…We will make everything right in time…It is possible to negotiate with Poroshenko…This is a tactical retreat…We are not ready to go to war…After all, we took Crimea, didn’t we?…” and so on and suchlike. What this will mean for our company – I know already. Most of us will perish, but that is not the issue – this uprising and all the victims will be in vain, and the “Russian Spring” will be eliminated at the root by the “Ukrainian Freeze.” And the next war, the war that we will not witness, will be on Russia’s territory – right after the “Moscow Maidan,” of course…

The Neo-Nazi Junta in Kiev Dramatically Increases Its Efforts to Provoke Russian into an Intervention

A new article by the Saker. As I write this, Kramatorsk is being flattened. The civilian casualties will be in the hundreds if not the thousands. As I am monitoring the Western news now, I am seeing absolutely no word whatsoever about this full-scale war. That is because 10 The media in Sweden and Norway is also totally controlled. As one might expect, this gets the population all riled up, and at the moment, Norwegians are in an anti-Russian frenzy and people who side with Russia are called traitors and there are threats to beat them up. The Polish media is one of the worst of all. I assume that the media in Baltics – Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, is 10 I have no word on the Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Slovenia, Austria, Swiss, Romanian or Bulgarian media. I would assume that the Romanian, Czech and especially Finnish media would be very anti-Russian. The Croats, Slovenes and Hungarians are Catholic, and the Catholics seem to be lining up against Russia in this war. The only friends that Russia has in Europe are probably some of the Orthodox countries in the Balkans – Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and and Greece. It’s pretty stunning how completely people pushing one point of view can completely capture the media in a Western “democracy” (TM) with “free of the press” (TM). As you can see below, Russia has told the Ukraine no more gas. For quite some time now, Ukraine has been stealing Russian gas. Now that Russia is cutting off the flow, the Ukrainians are stealing European gas, that is, gas that the Europeans bought from Russia. Are the Europeans really so supine that they are going to sit back and let the Ukies steal gas from them? Of course, the US and also Ukraine are trying to force Russia to intervene in Ukraine for a variety of reasons. I understand the US reasons, but I do not understand the Ukie reasons that much. It’s a trap, but geopolitics is a very dirty game and war is even dirtier. Nations law traps for each other all the time. You either take the bait or you don’t. In addition, geopolitics is generally based on conspiracy. Nations conspire against each other, hatch conspiracies against each other, etc. all the time. This is normal brutal diplomacy. Of course the Western media never reports on any of this because the MSM and the US elite want Americans to believe there is no such thing as conspiracy. All conspiracy theory is lies. And indeed, a very large The “all conspiracy theory is lies” is a itself a plot. The CIA hatched this project in the early 1960’s. For 60 years now, the CIA has been running a disinformation campaign in the US that says, “all conspiracy theory is lies.” The reason they do this, of course, is because the CIA itself engages in constant conspiracy, and the actions of the CIA can usually only be explained by a conspiracy theory of some sort. The campaign has been very successful. Now that vast numbers of Americans insist that “all conspiracy theory is lies, the US government, the State Department, the CIA, and the US military can engage plot and hatch conspiracies to their hearts content. Which is exactly what they do. Of course we catch these scums all the time in their conspiracy games and blow the whistle on them, but every time we do, people scream, “Conspiracy theory!” I know this because it has happened to me many times. For the last 25 years, I have actually figured out what is going on US domestic and foreign policy along with the ways of the rest of the world’s states. Once you figure out the truth, you realize that much of the truth is simply “conspiracy theory.” And when I try to tell people the truth, they usually start yelling, “Conspiracy theory!” and shut me down. You see: now that the elite has convinced as all that all conspiracy theory is lies, now they can conspire to their hearts content! People will catch them in the act and blow the whistle on them all the time, but every time they do, the elite will yell, “Conspiracy theory!” and vast numbers of Americans will immediately tune out. By now you have all already probably heard it. The CEO of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, has announced that Russia was now implementing a “prepayment only” gas delivery plan for the Ukraine and Lavrov has announced that he has “nothing to talk about” with the Ukie clown currently impersonating a Foreign Minister, Andrii Deshchytsia, and that he “would not meet with him”. Unlike the always calm and impeccably diplomatic Lavrov, Miller made no effort to show his complete disgust with, and contempt for, the junta in Kiev whom he clearly sees as blackmailing and stealing mobsters. This was especially evident when he said that the amount of gas the Ukies had set aside in their reserves was exactly the amount of gas which they were now refusing to pay for. To put it in plain English: the Ukies stole gas from Russia to fill up their reserves and they are about to begin stealing gas bought by the Europeans. Nice folks indeed. Very “Euro-compatible” I suppose… So my first reaction was to rejoice that Lavrov and Miller and finally expressed their total disgust and treated the junta leader with the disgust and contempt they deserve. But then a very unpleasant thought crept up into my mind: is that not exactly what the Ukies wanted? As I have written a million times now – the junta in power in Kiev is doomed, Banderastan is not viable, the rump-Ukraine is in ruins and terminally broke and there is nobody in the West who can do anything about it. And I bet you that the Ukies know that. This is why from their point of view involving the Russians is vital as Russia is the *only* possible scapegoat on which they can blame it all. So now Russia has “cut off gas” and the Russian Foreign Minister has announced that he will “refuse to meet” with his “Ukrainian counterpart”. You know how the Ukie propaganda machine will present that? It will be something along these lines: For all our efforts to negotiate in good faith with the Moskals who are occupying our land and sending in terrorists to kill our people, the Kremlin imperialists have decided to use the “gas weapon” against our people. Worse, instead of thanking our Minister of Foreign affairs who, at a great personal risk for himself, confronted a justifiably outraged crowed and calmed them down with some manly humor and thereby saved the Russian “diplomats” (who are really all FSB spies) from the righteous wrath of the people, they have now announced that they will refuse to meet with him. Yet again, the Moskals have shown that they belong to steppes of Asia and not into the community of civilized European nations. Etc. etc. etc. And, of course, the Ukies will get yet another standing ovation from the western politicians and corporate media. This is so predictable that it is not even funny anymore. But there is something which worries me much more: the Ukie tactic is a sound one. Why? Well, think of it. If one side is truly desperate to provoke the other side, what are the chances that it will fail? If you and I met somewhere and I would put all my energy and creativity towards the sole goal of getting your attention and force you to respond – how long do you think it will take me to get what I want? The same applies here. All the Ukies need to do is escalate, escalate and escalate even further, and since no matter what they do the Psakis in the West will always whitewash it, approve it or even praise it, there is nothing holding the neo-Nazi junta back. This is a small except of what Juan wrote to me today:

Kramatorsk as I write is being flattened, the entire city is under intense bombardment including Grad and Hurricane MLR’s. Everything, industrial areas, shopping areas, infrastructure areas, living areas, is being flattened. We’re going to have I think hundreds if not a thousand dead civilians. Is this the atrocity needed to bring in Russia? I don’t know. Yet.

Two cities in Europe are turned into new Oradour-sur-Glane and nobody in the West gives a damn. Germany and France pass laws basically forbidding the honest historical research of the Nazi atrocities in WWII while at the same time not only denying, but pro-actively supporting Nazi atrocities in a country which they claim is part of Europe. How crazy can this get?! It get’s better. Everybody, and I mean everybody, was fully aware that the Ukies would sooner or later begin to siphon-off European gas. It was therefore quite evident that the sound solution was to have a North Stream and a South Stream bypassing Banderastan to make sure that *European* gas (it’s theirs from the moment they buy it!) would get delivered. But no, the EU criticizes Bulgaria, McCain takes a trip to Sophia and, voilà, the Bulgarians are stopping the construction of South Stream which, of course, will end up hurting only the EU (not Russia or the USA!). So let’s sum it up:

  • The neo-Nazi junta in Kiev cannot survive, and it knows it
  • Uncle Sam is desperate to pull Russia into a military intervention
  • The EU is what is delicately called a “punk ass bitch” in US jails

So what are the Russian chances to not be provoked in this context? Pretty close to zero I think. What Lavrov and Miller did today or, should I say, were forced to today is just a first step. In essence, even though Miller and Lavrov did the right thing, they still gave the Ukies exactly what they wanted. And this scary. Because this “success” will breed more attempts to force Russia to react. What can come next? As I wrote yesterday

“I would not put it past them to try an air or missile strike on, say, a kindergarten in Crimea or even in Belgorod. They could also kidnap a delivery man for a Russian company still operating in Kiev or heroically massacre of minibus with an Aeroflot crew on the way to the airport”.

They can also attack a Russian border post, bomb a Russian vessel in the Black Sea, or even blow up a church belonging to the Moscow Patriarchate. And then what? Will Russia still only verbally protest? I am not making these up. There has been already at least one case when a Ukrainian Su-25 penetrated into Russian airspace to attack a border post controlled by the NDF. The Russian could have *easily* shot it down (they have the technology needed to shut down pretty much all of the Novorussian airspace without having to move a single missile batteries or radar across the border). But they chose not to simply because by the time they would need to prove that the intruder was in Russian airspace the Ukie version (a Russian aggression, of course) would have made all the front page news. Remember how long it took the West to eventually and most reluctantly admit that “yeah, okay, it was the Georgian side which attacked first”? How many people today even heard about this admission anyway? I am pretty darn sure that the folks in the Kremlin are fully aware of all that and, judging by what some people close to the Kremlin are saying, the decision has been made in Moscow to wait as long as possible simply to get a justification for the inevitable Russian intervention which would be as clear cut as possible. Please understand that Russia does not need to make any specific preparatory move to intervene in Novorossia. All that NATO nonsense about Russian troop movement and concentrations along the border is just propaganda for civilians. The fact is that Putin can give the order and in the next 30 minutes the entire airspace of Donbass will become a no-fly zone, within the next 60 minutes most Ukrainian artillery positions and command posts will be destroyed by missile strikes after which the NDF (backed by a few more volunteers) will be basically sufficient to take full control of the Donbass. As for the Ukie death-squads they will run for their lives as fast as they can. The only problem is timing. The Kremlin is desperately waiting for a sign that the Europeans are slowly coming to realize the monster which they have unleashed in the Ukraine. I personally do not believe that the Europeans will suddenly grow a conscience or a spine and considering the mass murder taking place today in Novorossia I continue to believe that a Russian intervention is inevitable. In the meantime, the provocations will continue. I just saw footage of the two journalists of the Russian TV channel Zvezda News which had been kidnapped by a Ukrainian death-squad and for which the Ukies had wanted a $200’000 ransom. Though neither did go into any details, both had been severely beaten, one had a glorious shiner under his eye while the other could not hear from his left ear. I have also heard news there had been an attempt to bomb the Russian consulate in Odessa and that somebody had prevented it (local cops?) and that it all ended in a huge brawl. And, of course, bomb and shells are raining down on Kramatorsk and Slaviansk right now – the terror operation is clearly in full swing. The Ukies will “win” in the sense that they will succeed in triggering a Russian intervention which they will try hard to turn into a war. If they do, it will be a short one, but the political damage will be immense. So I suppose a final rationale for Putin to wait for as long as possible is to get as high a percentage of the Russian population truly outraged before moving in so as to make this not a “Putin decision” but a “Russian people demand”. I thus fully concur with Juan: it will get a lot worse before it gets better and lots of people will die. But at the end, Russia, and the rest of us, will prevail. Of that I am sure. The Saker

The Time Has Come for Putin to Make the Most Important Decision of his Presidency

Below, the latest from the Saker. I agree with him. I have a Russian friend, and she told me that the word on the street is that Putin is going to be sending in peacekeepers soon. She also said that the public was 10 On to the Saker: Today I would like to just share two thoughts with you and suggest that each and every one of you come to his/her own conclusions. First, Russia was literally “sucked into” WWI by the Germany. Russia did not have to enter the war as Russia herself was not attacked. “Only” Serbia was. Russia was not ready to enter the war, but the Czar-Martyr Saint Nicholas II decided that it was his Christian duty was to take the defense of the Serbian people even if all pragmatic considerations were clearly advocating against a Russian intervention. This war soon turned out to be extremely costly for Russia and greatly contributed to the weakening of the Russian monarchy which eventually resulted in a Aristocratic-Masonic coup (February 1917) followed by a Jewish-Bolshevik coup (October 1917). Did the Czar do the right thing when he decided to defend the Serbian nation at the potential cost of his own Empire, the last Christian Empire in history? It is a fact that the Serbian Prince Alexander and the Serbian people have always shown an immense and sincere gratitude to the Russian people and to Czar Nicholas II (whose first icon was painted on a fresco in Serbia, not Russia). But Russia also liberated Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke. We now see the kind of “gratitude” Russia got from Bulgaria. Will a liberated Novorossia be more like Serbia or more like Bulgaria? Second, the level of outrage in Russia over the apparent Russian non-action in the face of what has now clearly become a systematic terror campaign against the people of Novorossia is immense. If Putin does not take action *very* soon he will face a very serious challenge from many sectors of Russian society including the media, the Duma and even his own party “United Russia”. My personal opinion is that this “wait and see” game was probably aimed at deliberately getting the Russian public opinion in a state of rage similar to the one which preceded the 2nd Chechen war but if that is so, then now the Russian society has reached boiling point and that if Putin does not act very soon a political explosion will take place in Russia. Every day now I see already “not so veiled at all” criticisms and expressions of disbelief at the Kremlin’s “shameful passivity”, and I am not talking about some small extremist party websites, but of the most watched and best known TV news and talk shows of mainstream Russian TV. Reporters which used to be very pro-Putin are now clearly and openly expressing frustration maybe not at Putin personally (yet), but at “Moscow”. But the writing is on the wall for Putin now. Furthermore, representatives of Novorussian authorities are now spending their time in Moscow going from one talk-show to another and making truly dramatic pleas for help. In other words, Putin is days away from what will become his political suicide unless he takes action. I would say that things have become so bad that even if the Novorossian Defense Forces have what it takes to keep the neo-Nazi death-squads mostly in check (and I believe that they do), the humanitarian situation is so bad (over 110,000 refugees already) that the pressure to have Russia intervene will continue to grow regardless of the military equation. With these elements in mind, make your own conclusions now as to what Putin should/will do. My personal belief is that a Russian intervention is imminent.

Americans and Ukraine: Portrait of a Brainwashed People

I would also like to complain about how sickeningly brainwashed Americans are. 9 The truth is that most Democrats are diehard Democrats and they simply every single that the Democratic Party is for. Right wing, left wing, centrist, atrocity, no matter. Democrats who claim to be liberals and progressives willingly support the most insanely reactionary foreign policy of all. They have for decades and there is no end to this in sight. These same liberals will typically support any rightwing crap a Democratic President does these. And looking back at the Clinton and Obama Presidencies, that’s a lot of rightwing crap. When a Democrat is in office, most Democrats simply support every single thing he does, period. I figure most Republicans are just as dumb. Whatever the Republican Party line is, that’s their line. When a Republican President is in, he can literally do no wrong. Of the Republicans I know, you will never hear a peep out of them in protest to anything they do. Republicans are always right. If a Republican wants to know what to think about something, he just turns on Fox News or goes to his favorite rightwing website. The websites and the station are all saying the same thing anyway and never disagree, so no matter. The Republican simply believes whatever Fox and the websites tell him to believe. No further thought is required. If a Democrat wants to know how to think on some particular issue, he turns on “liberal” news stations like MSNBC or CNN. CNN is not a progressive or liberal station by any means, and best I can tell, CNN is pretty much the same thing as Fox. MSNBC indeed is different, but how different are they on Russia and Ukraine. If the TV’s not on, the Democrat opens up a rightwing “liberal” newsmagazine like Time or Newsweek (many liberals will proudly tell you that they subscribe to “liberal” Time or “liberal” Newsweek), and Timesweek tells them what to believe. Usually about the same as CNN, or actually more to the Right than that. If the magazine hasn’t come yet, you can always look at the daily paper. Your daily paper editorializes all through its “news” pages, and on foreign policy, Fox, MSNBC, CNN, Timesweek, your local paper and both political parties (due to the “bipartisan foreign policy consensus”) are saying the same thing. I suppose that it is understandable that in a USA with media about as controlled as that of the Soviet Union it might be hard to find folks who don’t tow the government line or fall in line behind the “foreign policy consensus.” Some more Left publications have lined up behind the US and against Russia: The Nation and Rolling Stone. In addition, almost all Trotskyites are against Russia and are urging neutrality on this issue – the Trots’ attitude is – you guessed it – both sides are “fascists.” The always execrable Trot Louis Proyect has been supporting Ukraine from the start.

HIV Subtypes Around the World

Nice map shows HIV subtypes around the world.
Nice map shows HIV subtypes around the world.
In the US, the Caribbean, most of South America, Europe and Australia, subtype B is predominant. This subtype is very hard to spread heterosexually from woman to man. Such a transmission is possible, but it is not very likely. For instance, even if you had sex with an HIV positive woman, you would have to have sex with her ~700 times over a ~5 year period to even have a 2 In the rest of the areas, the picture is much murkier. Russia is a mixture of A, B and AB recombinant. Most spread in Russia is going via needle sharing. In China, B, C and BC recombinant is most prevalent. Much transmission here is also going via needle sharing. In Southeast Asia, B and CRF_o1AE are common. Much spread here is also going via needle sharing and needle-using men giving it to their wives, but there is also some going via gay male sex, and prostitutes have a high rate of being HIV positive. In addition, there has been a lot of transmission from women to men in this region, mostly prostitutes giving it to their clients. However, this seems to have been associated with vaginal bleeding on the part of the prostitutes. Once that matter is cleared up and the clients use condoms, very little transmission is occurring. In India and East and Southern Africa, Subtype C is prevalent. Reports indicate that much transmission is occurring heterosexually, either through normal heterosexual sex with either a man or a woman or via prostitutes giving it to their clients. The role of long distance truckers acquiring it from truck stop prostitutes and then spreading around the region is important in both regions. Other than that, little is known about spread in this region, but it does look like Subtype C is being spread pretty easily heterosexually both male to female and female to male, so this subtype is looking like a scary type of HIV. Subtype D is found in Central Africa and may well be spread heterosexually as easily as Subtype C is. Subtype A is found in both Russia and coastal East Africa. It seems to be going heterosexually both ways in Africa, but in Russia, there seems to be little heterosexual transmission. This doesn’t really make sense, and it is a mystery that needs to be cleared up. Brazil is home to Subtypes B and BF recombinant. The type of transmission here is little known, but male homosexual transmission seems to be very important. In West Africa, CRF_02AG, similar to the SE Asian subtype is the main subtype. Transmission routes are not known, but it looks as if some heterosexual transmission is occurring both ways, however, the rate of heterosexual transmission seems to be much lower than with subtypes C and D. In West Central Africa, HIV is prevalent but probably not as high as in the C and D areas. A huge variety of subtypes are found here, including subtypes F, G, H, J, K, CRF_01 and various recombinations of these subtypes. There is little information available, but heterosexual transmission both ways seems to be occurring here, higher than with CRF_02AG, but lower than with subtypes C and D. People keep saying that other subtypes are bound to show up in the US and therefore straight men are bound to be at risk in the future, but it hasn’t really happened, although some different subtypes are occurring in gay men, who sometimes get infected with different subtypes. This is because HIV positive men figure once they are HIV positive, they can fucked all they want to, as they can’t catch HIV now as they already have it. Unfortunately, although they can’t catch HIV per se, they can catch a new strain of it. Infection with more than one strain at once makes HIV more virulent. These cases are nastier and progress more quickly. Death often comes after not too long a time has passed.

Reports of Russian Armored Vehicles Entering Ukraine

From a Ukrainian news report here: Convoy of three tanks and two KAMAZ trucks under the flags of Russia popped Makeevki in Donetsk. Video shot in Makeyevka. According to eyewitnesses, the tanks are now in the territory of Donetsk, according to “News of Donbass.” Fact movement of Russian tanks in the direction of Donetsk confirms military expert Dmitry Tymchuk. “Across the border from Russia to Ukraine invade not only trucks and armored vehicles, but also tanks. Recent data: column, which included tanks from Russia, goes to Donetsk” – he said. According to experts, Russia is not even trying to hide the fact that its military intervention in the Donbass: “The Kremlin takes off his mask. If anyone has any doubt that this is a blatant invasion of Russia, I would like to see this person. interesting to see what it looks like the embodiment of naivete.” However, note that the Ukrainians have good reason to lie about Russian troops entering the country in order to portray Russians as bad guys. A spokesman for the Russian government said reports of Russian forces entering the Ukraine were nonsense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hew6bmufYk The tanks in this video are T-64’s, and the video was supposedly taken inside the city of Donetsk today. One of the armored vehicles in this column is flying the Russian flag. Note the locals cheering the arrival of these troops. However, three T-64’s were captured by the rebels the other day in Donetsk. So are these just tanks that were seized by the rebels, who then decided to put a Russian flag on them? Why would they do that? The rebels fly the rebel flag, not the Russian flag. Weighing the evidence, it appears that the Ukrainians are right and a small armored column of Russian forces has indeed crossed the border and moved into the Donbass. However, we will not know for sure until we get some sort of official confirmation.

Tightening the U.S. Grip on Western Europe: Washington’s Iron Curtain in Ukraine

From CounterPunch, June 6-8, 2014. This article has everything you need to know about what is going on in the Ukraine right now. If you read it, you will see that the story she is telling is completely the opposite of what the US media is telling you. That is because the media is lying to you. As far as I can tell, everything Johnstone writes here is 10

Tightening the U.S. Grip on Western Europe: Washington’s Iron Curtain in Ukraine

by Diana Johnstone

NATO leaders are currently acting out a deliberate charade in Europe, designed to reconstruct an Iron Curtain between Russia and the West. With astonishing unanimity, NATO leaders feign surprise at events they planned months in advance. Events that they deliberately triggered are being misrepresented as sudden, astonishing, unjustified “Russian aggression”. The United States and the European Union undertook an aggressive provocation in Ukraine that they knew would force Russia to react defensively, one way or another. They could not be sure exactly how Russian president Vladimir Putin would react when he saw that the United States was manipulating political conflict in Ukraine to install a pro-Western government intent on joining NATO. This was not a mere matter of a “sphere of influence” in Russia’s “near abroad”, but a matter of life and death to the Russian Navy, as well as a grave national security threat on Russia’s border. A trap was thereby set for Putin. He was damned if he did, and damned if he didn’t. He could under-react, and betray Russia’s basic national interests, allowing NATO to advance its hostile forces to an ideal attack position. Or he could over-react, by sending Russian forces to invade Ukraine. The West was ready for this, prepared to scream that Putin was “the new Hitler”, poised to overrun poor, helpless Europe, which could only be saved (again) by the generous Americans. In reality, the Russian defensive move was a very reasonable middle course. Thanks to the fact that the overwhelming majority of Crimeans felt Russian, having been Russian citizens until Khrushchev frivolously bestowed the territory on Ukraine in 1954, a peaceful democratic solution was found. Crimeans voted for their return to Russia in a referendum which was perfectly legal according to international law, although in violation of the Ukrainian constitution, which was by then in tatters having just been violated by the overthrow of the country’s duly elected president, Victor Yanukovych, facilitated by violent militias. The change of status of Crimea was achieved without bloodshed, by the ballot box. Nevertheless, the cries of indignation from the West were every bit as hysterically hostile as if Putin had overreacted and subjected Ukraine to a U.S.-style bombing campaign, or invaded the country outright – which they may have expected him to do. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry led the chorus of self-righteous indignation, accusing Russia of the sort of thing his own government is in the habit of doing. “You just don’t invade another country on phony pretext in order to assert your interests. This is an act of aggression that is completely trumped up in terms of its pretext”, Kerry pontificated. “It’s really 19th century behavior in the 21st century”. Instead of laughing at this hypocrisy, U.S. media, politicians and punditry zealously took up the theme of Putin’s unacceptable expansionist aggression. The Europeans followed with a weak, obedient echo.

It Was All Planned at Yalta

In September 2013, one of Ukraine’s richest oligarchs, Viktor Pinchuk, paid for an elite strategic conference on Ukraine’s future that was held in the same Palace in Yalta, Crimea, where Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill met to decide the future of Europe in 1945. The Economist, one of the elite media reporting on what it called a “display of fierce diplomacy”, stated that: “The future of Ukraine, a country of 48m people, and of Europe was being decided in real time.” The participants included Bill and Hillary Clinton, former CIA head General David Petraeus, former U.S. Treasury secretary Lawrence Summers, former World Bank head Robert Zoellick, Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt, Shimon Peres, Tony Blair, Gerhard Schröder, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Mario Monti, Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite, and Poland’s influential foreign minister Radek Sikorski. Both President Viktor Yanukovych, deposed five months later, and his recently elected successor Petro Poroshenko were present. Former U.S. energy secretary Bill Richardson was there to talk about the shale-gas revolution which the United States hopes to use to weaken Russia by substituting fracking for Russia’s natural gas reserves. The center of discussion was the “Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement” (DCFTA) between Ukraine and the European Union, and the prospect of Ukraine’s integration with the West. The general tone was euphoria over the prospect of breaking Ukraine’s ties with Russia in favor of the West. Conspiracy against Russia? Not at all. Unlike Bilderberg, the proceedings were not secret. Facing a dozen or so American VIPs and a large sampling of the European political elite was a Putin adviser named Sergei Glazyev, who made Russia’s position perfectly clear. Glazyev injected a note of political and economic realism into the conference. Forbes reported at the time on the “stark difference” between the Russian and Western views “not over the advisability of Ukraine’s integration with the EU but over its likely impact.” In contrast to Western euphoria, the Russian view was based on “very specific and pointed economic criticisms” about the Trade Agreement’s impact on Ukraine’s economy, noting that Ukraine was running an enormous foreign accounts deficit, funded with foreign borrowing, and that the resulting substantial increase in Western imports could only swell the deficit. Ukraine “will either default on its debts or require a sizable bailout”. The Forbes reporter concluded that “the Russian position is far closer to the truth than the happy talk coming from Brussels and Kiev.” As for the political impact, Glazyev pointed out that the Russian-speaking minority in Eastern Ukraine might move to split the country in protest against cutting ties with Russia, and that Russia would be legally entitled to support them, according to The Times of London. In short, while planning to incorporate Ukraine into the Western sphere, Western leaders were perfectly aware that this move would entail serious problems with Russian-speaking Ukrainians, and with Russia itself. Rather than seeking to work out a compromise, Western leaders decided to forge ahead and to blame Russia for whatever would go wrong. What went wrong first was that Yanukovych got cold feet faced with the economic collapse implied by the Trade Agreement with the European Union. He postponed signing, hoping for a better deal. Since none of this was explained clearly to the Ukrainian public, outraged protests ensued, which were rapidly exploited by the United States… against Russia.

Ukraine as Bridge…Or Achilles Heel

Ukraine, a term meaning borderland, is a country without clearly fixed historical borders that has been stretched too far to the East and too far to the West. The Soviet Union was responsible for this, but the Soviet Union no longer exists, and the result is a country without a unified identity and which emerges as a problem for itself and for its neighbors. It was extended too far East, incorporating territory that might as well have been Russian, as part of a general policy to distinguish the USSR from the Tsarist empire, enlarging Ukraine at the expense of its Russian component and demonstrating that the Soviet Union was really a union among equal socialist republics. So long as the whole Soviet Union was run by the Communist leadership, these borders didn’t matter too much. It was extended too far West at the end of World War II. The victorious Soviet Union extended Ukraine’s border to include Western regions, dominated by the city variously named Lviv, Lwow, Lemberg or Lvov, depending on whether it belonged to Lithuania, Poland, the Hapsburg Empire or the USSR, a region which was a hotbed of anti-Russian sentiments. This was no doubt conceived as a defensive move, to neutralize hostile elements, but it created the fundamentally divided nation that today constitutes the perfect troubled waters for hostile fishing. The Forbes report cited above pointed out that: “For most of the past five years, Ukraine was basically playing a double game, telling the EU that it was interested in signing the DCFTA while telling the Russians that it was interested in joining the customs union.” Either Yanukovych could not make up his mind, or was trying to squeeze the best deal out of both sides, or was seeking the highest bidder. In any case, he was never “Moscow’s man”, and his downfall owes a lot no doubt to his own role in playing both ends against the middle. His was a dangerous game of pitting greater powers against each other. It is safe to say that what was needed was something that so far seems totally lacking in Ukraine: a leadership that recognizes the divided nature of the country and works diplomatically to find a solution that satisfies both the local populations and their historic ties with the Catholic West and with Russia. In short, Ukraine could be a bridge between East and West – and this, incidentally, has been precisely the Russian position. The Russian position has not been to split Ukraine, much less to conquer it, but to facilitate the country’s role as bridge. This would involve a degree of federalism, of local government, which so far is entirely lacking in the country, with local governors selected not by election but by the central government in Kiev. A federal Ukraine could both develop relations with the EU and maintain its vital (and profitable) economic relations with Russia. But this arrangement calls for Western readiness to cooperate with Russia. The United States has plainly vetoed this possibility, preferring to exploit the crisis to brand Russia “the enemy”.

Plan A and Plan B

U.S. policy, already evident at the September 2013 Yalta meeting, was carried out on the ground by Victoria Nuland, former adviser to Dick Cheney, deputy ambassador to NATO, spokeswoman for Hillary Clinton, wife of neocon theorist Robert Kagan. Her leading role in the Ukraine events proves that the neo-con influence in the State Department, established under Bush II, was retained by Obama, whose only visible contribution to foreign policy change has been the presence of a man of African descent in the presidency, calculated to impress the world with U.S. multicultural virtue. Like most other recent presidents, Obama is there as a temporary salesman for policies made and executed by others. As Victoria Nuland boasted in Washington, since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States has spent five billion dollars to gain political influence in Ukraine (this is called “promoting democracy”). This investment is not “for oil”, or for any immediate economic advantage. The primary motives are geopolitical, because Ukraine is Russia’s Achilles’ heel, the territory with the greatest potential for causing trouble to Russia. What called public attention to Victoria Nuland’s role in the Ukrainian crisis was her use of a naughty word, when she told the U.S. ambassador, “Fuck the EU”. But the fuss over her bad language veiled her bad intentions. The issue was who should take power away from the elected president Viktor Yanukovych. German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party been promoting former boxer Vitaly Klitschko as its candidate. Nuland’s rude rebuff signified that the United States, not Germany or the EU, was to choose the next leader, and that was not Klitschko but “Yats”. And indeed it was Yats, Arseniy Yatsenyuk , a second-string US-sponsored technocrat known for his enthusiasm for IMF austerity policies and NATO membership, who got the job. This put a U.S. sponsored government, enforced in the streets by fascist militia with little electoral clout but plenty of armed meanness, in a position to manage the May 25 elections, from which the Russophone East was largely excluded. Plan A for the Victoria Nuland putsch was probably to install, rapidly, a government in Kiev that would join NATO, thus formally setting the stage for the United States to take possession of Russia’s indispensable Black Sea naval base at Sebastopol in Crimea. Reincorporating Crimea into Russia was Putin’s necessary defensive move to prevent this. But the Nuland gambit was in fact a win-win ploy. If Russia failed to defend itself, it risked losing its entire southern fleet – a total national disaster. On the other hand, if Russia reacted, as was most likely, the US thereby won a political victory that was perhaps its main objective. Putin’s totally defensive move is portrayed by the Western mainstream media, echoing political leaders, as unprovoked “Russian expansionism”, which the propaganda machine compares to Hitler grabbing Czechoslovakia and Poland. Thus a blatant Western provocation, using Ukrainian political confusion against a fundamentally defensive Russia, has astonishingly succeeded in producing a total change in the artificial Zeitgeist produced by Western mass media. Suddenly, we are told that the “freedom-loving West” is faced with the threat of “aggressive Russian expansionism”. Some forty years ago, Soviet leaders gave away the store under the illusion that peaceful renunciation on their part could lead to a friendly partnership with the West, and especially with the United States. But those in the United States who never wanted to end the Cold War are having their revenge. Never mind “communism”; if, instead of advocating the dictatorship of the proletariat, Russia’s current leader is simply old-fashioned in certain ways, Western media can fabricate a monster out of that. The United States needs an enemy to save the world from.

The Protection Racket Returns

But first of all, the United States needs Russia as an enemy in order to “save Europe”, which is another way to say, in order to continue to dominate Europe. Washington policy-makers seemed to be worried that Obama’s swing to Asia and neglect of Europe might weaken U.S. control of its NATO allies. The May 25 European Parliament elections revealed a large measure of disaffection with the European Union. This disaffection, notably in France, is linked to a growing realization that the EU, far from being a potential alternative to the United States, is in reality a mechanism that locks European countries into U.S.-defined globalization, economic decline and U.S. foreign policy, wars and all. Ukraine is not the only entity that has been overextended. So has the EU. With 28 members of diverse language, culture, history and mentality, the EU is unable to agree on any foreign policy other than the one Washington imposes. The extension of the EU to former Eastern European satellites has totally broken whatever deep consensus might have been possible among the countries of the original Economic Community: France, Germany, Italy and the Benelux states. Poland and the Baltic States see EU membership as useful, but their hearts are in America – where many of their most influential leaders have been educated and trained. Washington is able to exploit the anti-communist, anti-Russian and even pro-Nazi nostalgia of northeastern Europe to raise the false cry of “the Russians are coming!” in order to obstruct the growing economic partnership between the old EU, notably Germany, and Russia. Russia is no threat. But to vociferous Russophobes in the Baltic States, Western Ukraine and Poland, the very existence of Russia is a threat. Encouraged by the United States and NATO, this endemic hostility is the political basis for the new “iron curtain” meant to achieve the aim spelled out in 1997 by Zbigniew Brzezinski in The Grand Chessboard: keeping the Eurasian continent divided in order to perpetuate U.S. world hegemony. The old Cold War served that purpose, cementing U.S. military presence and political influence in Western Europe. A new Cold War can prevent U.S. influence from being diluted by good relations between Western Europe and Russia. Obama has come to Europe ostentatiously promising to “protect” Europe by basing more troops in regions as close as possible to Russia, while at the same time ordering Russia to withdraw its own troops, on its own territory, still farther away from troubled Ukraine. This appears designed to humiliate Putin and deprive him of political support at home, at a time when protests are rising in Eastern Ukraine against the Russian leader for abandoning them to killers sent from Kiev. To tighten the U.S. grip on Europe, the United States is using the artificial crisis to demand that its indebted allies spend more on “defense”, notably by purchasing U.S. weapons systems. Although the U.S. is still far from being able to meet Europe’s energy needs from the new U.S. fracking boom, this prospect is being hailed as a substitute for Russia’s natural gas sales – stigmatized as a “way of exercising political pressure”, something of which hypothetical U.S. energy sales are presumed to be innocent. Pressure is being brought against Bulgaria and even Serbia to block construction of the South Stream pipeline that would bring Russian gas into the Balkans and southern Europe.

From D-Day to Dooms Day

Today, June 6, the seventieth anniversary of the D-Day landing is being played in Normandy as a gigantic celebration of American domination, with Obama heading an all-star cast of European leaders. The last of the aged surviving soldiers and aviators present are like the ghosts of a more innocent age when the United States was only at the start of its new career as world master. They were real, but the rest is a charade. French television is awash with the tears of young villagers in Normandy who have been taught that the United States is some sort of Guardian Angel, which sent its boys to die on the shores of Normandy out of pure love for France. This idealized image of the past is implicitly projected on the future. In seventy years, the Cold War, a dominant propaganda narrative and above all Hollywood have convinced the French, and most of the West, that D-Day was the turning point that won World War II and saved Europe from Nazi Germany. Vladimir Putin came to the celebration, and has been elaborately shunned by Obama, self-appointed arbiter of Virtue. The Russians are paying tribute to the D-Day operation which liberated France from Nazi occupation, but they – and historians – know what most of the West has forgotten: that the Wehrmacht was decisively defeated not by the Normandy landing, but by the Red Army. If the vast bulk of German forces had not been pinned down fighting a losing war on the Eastern front, nobody would celebrate D-Day as it is being celebrated today. Putin is widely credited as being “the best chess player”, who won the first round of the Ukrainian crisis. He has no doubt done the best he could, faced with the crisis foisted on him. But the U.S. has whole ranks of pawns which Putin does not have. And this is not only a chess game, but chess combined with poker combined with Russian roulette. The United States is ready to take risks that the more prudent Russian leaders prefer to avoid… as long as possible. Perhaps the most extraordinary aspect of the current charade is the servility of the “old” Europeans. Apparently abandoning all Europe’s accumulated wisdom, drawn from its wars and tragedies, and even oblivious to their own best interests, today’s European leaders seem ready to follow their American protectors to another D-Day … D for Doom. Can the presence of a peace-seeking Russian leader in Normandy make a difference? All it would take would be for mass media to tell the truth, and for Europe to produce reasonably wise and courageous leaders, for the whole fake war machine to lose its luster, and for truth to begin to dawn. A peaceful Europe is still possible, but for how long? Diana Johnstone is the author of Fools’ Crusade: Yugoslavia, NATO, and Western Delusions.

Minority Languages in Siberia

John writes:

I read that the ancestors of modern day Aboriginal Canadians/Americans still live in parts of Siberia but they are fading away linguistically and culturally due to Russian culture, do you know anything about this? I know that the indigenous people of Russia were all Mongoloid and Siberia was all Mongoloid type people before the Russians came. So how is it that Russia is not causing harm to these cultures?

Russia has a pretty progressive attitude towards these folks. None of them are separatists, so there is not much to worry about. Russia doesn’t settle it with Russians because no Russian wants to go live in Siberia. I suspect they might even let some of these groups separate because I am not sure how much Russia cares about all these frozen wastes. I just wrote a huge paper on these groups that will appear soon in a new book. Russia lets all of these groups use their languages as much as they want to. They can study them in schools, or they can even use them as a medium for instruction as long as kids end up fluent in Russian too. They can declare one or more of their languages as official state languages alongside Russian. They can use the language alongside Russian in government and universities. They can have newspapers, magazines, TV and radio in their languages. The USSR supported language rights, and the new Russia has more or less inherited that mindset. Quite a few of even the small groups related to Amerindians still speak their languages. For instance, the Altai languages are still widely spoken. Children are still being raised as native speakers in some of these languages. However, many are on their way out with most speakers age 40+. Some languages have only elderly speakers and are moribund. Speakers of these languages often suffer from lack of funds for learning materials in the schools, and their media productions either lack funding or tend to get shut down due to financial issues.

Turgenev!

Turgenev is usually listed as one of the great Russian writers of the 19th Century along with Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Anton Chekhov and Nikolai Gogol. He was the favorite Russian novelist of Henry James and Joseph Conrad, who both said he was better than Dostoevsky. Vladimir Nabokov rated him below Tolstoy, Chekhov and Gogol but ahead of Dostoevsky. Although Turgenev quarreled with Tolstoy and Dostoevsky during his lifetime, both eventually came to praise him. After he died, Tolstoy said:

His stories of peasant life will forever remain a valuable contribution to Russian literature. I have always valued them highly. And in this respect none of us can stand comparison with him. Take, for example, Living Relic, Loner, and so on. All these are unique stories. And as for his nature descriptions, these are true pearls, beyond the reach of any other writer!

Turgenev never married but had many lovers and affairs. He had a lifelong affair with a Spanish-born opera singer who was raised in Paris. He spent most of his time in Western Europe, especially Germany and France. He preferred cosmopolitan Western Europe over his native land. He died at age 64. He was particularly noted for his great ear for dialogue, as you can see in the excerpt below. Just to give you a taste of what he is like, here is a passage from the play, A Month in the Country:

You know, Ratikin, I noticed this a long time ago …You are wonderfully sensitive to the so-called beauties of nature, and talk about them exquisitely … very intelligently … so exquisitely, so intelligently, that I feel sure nature should be indescribably grateful to you for your beautifully chosen, happy phrases about her; you court nature, like a perfumed marquis on his little red-heeled shoes, pursuing a pretty peasant girl … the only trouble is, I sometimes think that nature will never be able to understand or appreciate your subtle language – just as the peasant girl wouldn’t understand the courtly compliments of the marquis; nature is simpler, yes, cruder than you suppose – because, thank God, she is healthy …Birches don’t melt, they don’t have fainting fits like ladies with weak nerves.

Why Russia Is Not An Imperialist Country

thelyniezian writes:

Out of interest, why is it you would suppose Russia is not an imperialist country? Perhaps because al it is really doing is seeking to hang onto and maintain its sphere of influence, not trying to aggressively expand it in the way the US seems to be doing?

They don’t exploit anyone. They have a cooperative or solidarity attitude towards their alliances similar to the Bolivarian Trade Bloc in Latin America. They don’t give orders. They don’t threaten countries that won’t obey. They don’t push austerity programs via the IMF. They don’t push free trade treaties with other countries that would wipe out that country’s industry so that Russian capital and corporations can come in and colonize the economy. Russia is an ally of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Laos, and China. All of those are openly socialist or Leftist countries more or less. No imperialist country would ever cooperate with socialist countries. They don’t do that. Imperialist countries try to destroy all socialist or even vaguely progressive countries. That is what imperialism is all about. Russia doesn’t care what kind of economic system you have. You can have any sort of economic system you want from radical capitalism to heavy socialism and Russia will work with you. Imperialist countries always impose economic systems on their vassals, usually a neoliberal or radical capitalist model so that the imperialist country can exploit the vassal state by taking over its industries via investment and corporations, buying its raw materials exports for way too cheap and forcing the vassal to import expensive finished products from the imperialist state, after forcing out of business all of the local industries that engaged in import substitution. Russia doesn’t menace, invade, conquer and colonize countries that did nothing at all to them. Russia does not impose sanctions on other countries. Russia doesn’t not go into other countries and steal billions of their dollars or confiscate all their gold reserves. Russia doesn’t throw its weight around like a bull in a china shop.
