Alt Left: Face It: The Latest Riots are Multiracial Leftwing Antiracist Riots

Alpha Unit: I am responding to this narrative that all this destruction and violence is a “Black” thing. That’s not the whole story.

I would agree with you that the riots are not all a Black thing. Head on over to American Renaissance and see how these are being portrayed as Black riots. Well, there are Black riots in this country, but these don’t really qualify. In some cities, in these riots it is mostly Blacks rioting. Those are cities in the South like Atlanta, Louisville, Birmingham, and some other places that elude me at the moment. I believe there were Whites in the crowd in Atlanta though.

In general, the rioters were a mix of young Black, Hispanic, and White men, mostly antisocial and living on the edge of society, most without decent or any jobs or much to lose. I saw many young men rioting right alongside the Blacks. The Whites looked like skate punk and Antifa types. A lot of Whites were holding up BLM signs and chanting BLM slogans.

In LA, most of the rioters tended to be Hispanics.

In Las Vegas, the crowd was very mixed, mostly Hispanics with some Whites, even including White women, with a few Blacks in the mix too. The white rioters seemed to have more of the fancier materials you need to start a riot.

In Minneapolis, many of those smashing and setting things on fire were young White men, often skate punk types. In some cases, they worked right alongside inner city type Blacks. However, I did see an interview with a Minneapolis Black gang member who said that all of the gangs in the city (mostly Black) were working together in these riots to cause mayhem even though a lot of them were enemies normally.  So there is also a criminal gang element, but that shouldn’t be surprising.

The riots seem quite multiracial in New York, but it was hard to get a breakdown. There were a lot of Blacks but also some Whites.

There were many Whites in the Washington DC riots but also a lot of Blacks of course.

Rioters in Seattle and Portland tended to be young antifa type Whites.

Chicago seemed to have a lot of Blacks, but there were also Whites mixed in.

The truth is that these for the most part are multiracial riots. Yes, many rioters are Black, but there are quite a few young White and Hispanic men in the mix.

I will say one thing. It seems like most of the looting is being done by Blacks. I did see a few Whites looting in Minneapolis and New York. Hispanics are known to loot but I’m not aware of how many of them did. In the Rodney King riots, the looters were heavily Black and Hispanics. However, when they moved up to Hollywood, a lot of more or less regular young White men got in on, targeting high end items.

I was happy to see the stores of the rich looted and smashed up though. That’s who they should be targeting.

Looting does tend to be a Black thing. Hispanics don’t seem to loot as much, and it seems like a lot of Whites, even White rioters, are averse to looting. A White rioter will smash stuff up, set a building on fire but then refuse to loot other buildings. Not sure why that is, but I think Antifa doesn’t like looting. Plus a lot of Whites are afraid to steal or perhaps they even consider it morally wrong.

Alpha Unit: And leftwing people are not delusional for thinking there are rightwing people out there seeking to capitalize on these protests.

Correct, but I am seeing little evidence of this.

Three Bugaloo Boys went to a demonstration and tried to turn it violent, but the crowd did not buy it. Further, the Bugaloos are a mixed bag. Yes most are rightwingers, often racist ones. However, there are other Bugaloos who are on the left and a number of them are antiracists. So the Bugaloos are just a group of “tear it down” folks who are insurrectionists against the government for a variety of reasons – right, left, racist and antiracist. The only thing that unites them is the desire to smash it up and take down the state.

I am watching leftwing subs on Reddit, and all they ever say about these riots is that it’s White Nationalist racists and undercover police instigators who are setting off the  riots or even doing most of the damage. I went to the page of one liberal, and he said all the destruction was being done by White nationalists and undercover police instigators. He also said Russia was behind the riots.

Black people don’t want to think it’s their people rioting. That’s a typical human Dindu reaction. They are correct, the Black rioters are having a significant  amount of White and Hispanic help. That’s the better response. Pawning it off on cops and rightwing racists ain’t gonna cut it.

Leftwingers and antiracists object to the notion that these are leftwing antiracist riots. Once again this is the typical human Dindu reaction. Dindu reactions tend to be more of a human response than a Black cope. People don’t like to take responsibility when their group does bad things, so they blame it all on outsiders or better yet, their enemies.

Rightwingers are notorious for this but as we can see, leftwingers and antiracists are not immune to it either. The defenses are Denial and Projection. “Blaming other people” isn’t just something pathological people do. Most people go through life blaming other people in some way or other. I don’t object to blaming other people, but I think the less you do it, the better.

But that’s exactly what they are – these are indeed leftwing antiracist riots. And antifa-type and BLM (neither of which are organizations) elements do appear significant. The young Whites may be apolitical, or if they vote at all, they vote Bernie. The Blacks and Hispanics just vote straight Democratic if they even vote at all. I think a lot of these rioters are apolitical in the sense that they are outside of organized politics and might not even vote.

Robert Stark Interviews Matt Forney about the NPI Conference, US Cities, Houellebecq, & the Paris Terror Attack

I normally do not link to interviews with Matt because he is a dyed in the wool conservative whose enemy is the “Left.” Well, that’s me. I am the Left. Alt Left maybe, but Left nevertheless. Nevertheless, most of these discussions here are great and steer away from Left-bashing other than the unfortunate nonsense about how the Left destroyed cities I guess by saying people had a right to survive and have some shelter over their heads. Which of course makes us evil, right?

Here.

Take the Black Pill

This is a video from one of the most popular posters on the Robot9000 board on 4chat where the Oregon shooter may have posted before he did his dastardly deed.

I would listen in particular to the section from 14:00-16:00 where he predicts a pre-civilizational future where the top men amass harems of 10-15 women each and the rest of the men get none. It sounds crazy but…

The feminists, the male feminists, the blue pillers, the SJW’s, the Left, almost all women, and quite a few men flat out say that all of these incels are imagining things. There is no Alpha, Beta, Omega, etc. It’s all made up pseudoscience. There is no Game, or if there is, it is pseudoscience that doesn’t even work. All these incels have brought this matter on themselves. The feminists say that all they have to do is bathe regularly, practice good hygiene, get some decent clothes, work out, get a job and act halfway normal and they will find a woman just like that. Their whole problem is a lousy attitude.

Yet there is a very important question at stake here. Has the Sexual Marketplace indeed changed since the 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s and even beyond. I certainly don’t recall anything like these mass incel movements before. We never saw anything like this in the 70’s and 80’s. Sure there were guys who couldn’t get laid to save their lives, but they were not common and everyone assumed they were bringing it on themselves. Of course there were many fat and homely men of all sorts, but most of them seemed to be able to find a similar woman with ease. There was no talk of Chad Thundercock, incels,  Game, hypergamy, PUA gurus, PUA bootcamps or any of that. Now these things may well have existed, but no one was talking about them.

According to the the feminists, the male feminists, the blue pillers, the SJW’s, the Left, almost all women, and quite a few men absolutely nothing whatsoever has changed about the Sexual Marketplace between the 70’s and today. All of these clowns could go get a woman anytime they want to. In other words, they are imagining all of this. They’re hallucinating. They’re making it up. They’re getting all upset about something that’s not even real.

And yet…and yet…I can’t help thinking that the Sexual Marketplace has indeed changed since the 1980’s. I also have a nagging feeling that these poor, lost, forlorn men may well be onto something. I know the Game/PUA guys are onto something.* I am frightened that there is more than a grain of truth to  what they say and on some level, they may be complaining about some real phenomenon that is manifesting itself as a substantially changed Sexual Marketplace. I don’t think they are making this stuff up or hallucinating. And sadly, I don’t think they could get a woman by snapping their fingers either.

Everybody thinks that when I write about this stuff, I am complaining. I’m not. However, aspects of the incel movement resonate with me as a longterm bachelor who experienced the feast or famine of the dating world. I’ve had some incel periods myself and in those times, I can see myself in the faces of these poor sods. But to answer the question, no I am not complaining? Why should I? All indications are that if this phenomenon exists, I’ve been benefiting from it since age 17.

If this is some real new sociosexual phenomenon, I think it might be interesting for some bright minds and scholars to look into it. Right now all the work is being done by amateurs. The scholars are all ignoring the phenomenon and claiming it doesn’t exist. But it would be nice to get at least a conversation going about this subject.

As usual, I have no solutions. It is erroneous to think that life is full of solutions. Most chronic human problems are more or less unsolvable. Apparently most people can’t bear the thought of that, and this is why you always see people going on and on about how to “solve” this or that problem. It’s a delusion, a defense against the painful truth that on a lot of levels, we’re pretty much screwed and there’s not a thing to be done about it.

* I know for a fact that Roissy and the rest of the dirtbag PUA’s are onto something. This “Game” stuff is nothing new. These guys haven’t discovered anything. Sure, they have come up with some nice theory, but there are no groundbreaking new discoveries. I and most of my friends figured out this “Game” stuff back in the 1970’s when I first started dating. It’s nothing but the timeless wisdom of ages that men have always used as tools of seduction and understanding the female mind. Female nature now is the same as it’s been for 2,000 years.

Robert Stark Interviews Robert Lindsay about the Oregon Shooter

There is a new interview with me up. Mostly about the latest mass shooting. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

That’s their mascot. His name is Pepe and he’s usually carrying a gun I think. I believe he is a frog.

Pepe, above, is the mascot of the Robot9000 board on 4chan, where the Oregon mass shooter, Christopher Harper-Mercer, appears to have posted a threat warning of the attack the day before. The warning was accompanied by a pic of Pepe.

Oregon School Shooter Confirmed as Having Asperger’s

Figures.

Adam Lanza was also on the autistic spectrum and so was Seung-Hui Cho. There is no evidence whatsoever that George Sodini, the Columbine shooters or Elliot Rodger were on the spectrum although they are often said to be. Rodger was a pathological narcissist, one of the Colombine shooters was a sociopath and the other one was depressed, and no one knows what if anything was wrong with Sodini.

His mother confirmed that he was an Aspie in online posts. As a boy, he was a “headbanger” – that’s not a metalhead but instead is someone on the spectrum who likes to bang their head against walls.

Chris Harper-Mercer, the shooter, had access to 14 guns. It was thought that those were his own guns, but as in the Lanza case, instead they were owned by his gun nut mother, a nurse.

Another Incel Goes ER (Elliot Rodger), Shoots up College, 10 Dead, 7 Wounded

Breaking news right now:

Another young man, reportedly an incel like Elliot Rodger and George Sodini, has conducted a mass shooting. This shooting was done at a community college. He wandered through hallways shooting at everyone he saw. Cops came and he shot it out with him. He lived for a while after he was shot, and then he died. It is not yet known if he was killed by the police or his own hand.

The shooting happened at Umpqua Community College in Oregon at 10:38 AM this morning. 7 people were killed, including the shooter, and 7 more were wounded.

The shooter has been identified as Chris Harper Mercer, age 26.

He hung out on a 4chan site called Robot9000 or RK9, which is where a lot of young men who feel they are being passed over by society hang out and attack what they call “normies.” Normies are well-liked and well-adjusted young men.

They often make posts talking about how much they hate normies. There is a strong incel undercurrent with the site similar to PUAHate where Elliot Rodger hung out. Mercer appears to have been some sort of an incel. After he posted his warning telling his fellow Robots not to go to school in the Pacific Northwest tomorrow, a poster said, “Instead of doing that, why don’t you go talk to a woman!”

He, like many RK9 posters, fashioned himself as a Beta. Apparently “normies” may be the Alphas who are getting all the girls and fun. There is a lot of talk about a “Beta Uprising,” which is some sort of violent uprising of the male Betas against the Alphas who oppress them and the society that supports it. Mercer may have talked about and predicted this Beta Uprising.

“Going ER” is Internet shorthand made up by the SlutHate crowd which means “going Elliot Rodger” – for an incel to go on an Elliot Rodger type shooting spree. There is a lot of talk on Sluthate about who is going to be the next poster to Go ER. Here is the Sluthate post talking about the shooting.

Mercer made a post yesterday on R9K predicting this shooting, but no one did anything about it. However, people make threats on 4chan all the time. They come so often and usually don’t amount to anything so no one bothers to do anything about it. Also users say that finding threats and investigating them is the job of the police, not the posters.

After the George Sodini shooting and the Elliot Rodger shooting, I predicted that there were going to be more of these explosive outbursts by incel males, and I was right.

"Who Wants to Work in the Logging Business?" by Alpha Unit

The logging business in Arkansas has been down so long, says Jan Cottingham, that people are skeptical of any predictions of an upturn. And yet some observers are that confident. What they wonder is whether or not the workers will be there to meet the demand. Labor concerns in Arkansas reflect what’s going on nationwide: the lumber industry workforce is reaching retirement age and employers don’t know if they’ll see new recruitment coming in. Even with some modest increases in the labor force, challenges remain in drawing young people to the industry. Much like farming, the logging industry is often multi-generational and family-run, says Matt Jensen. He is the vice president of the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and a third-generation logger. He says:

This is a business that is really hard to learn and it’s really a lifestyle. If you don’t teach your children the work ethic, they’re not going to continue.

One of the biggest challenges facing the forestry industry is the negative perception about wood usage, according to Scott Bowe of the University of Wisconsin. He thinks it’s hypocritical, because people use wood everyday. “We need fresh, young people to carry the business forward,” he says. “We consume more wood every year. The wood’s got to come from somewhere.” The question is, who will replace the current generation of loggers? Logging is capital-intensive, requiring an initial investment of roughly $1 million for heavy equipment like fellers, which cut the trees; skidders, which move the felled trees; processors, which de-limb the trees; and loaders, which lift the logs from piles to trucks. Lenders are reluctant to provide money for new logging businesses. Whether the businesses are new or established, the amount of work you do depends on the weather. In Arkansas, logging time can be about 40 weeks out of the year. So you’re not going to make a lot of money working in this business. The appeal just isn’t there for a lot of young people. Steve Richardson owns a logging business in Arkansas and says that every logger has either gotten more productive with fewer people or has gone out of business. Some timber companies are considering forming their own logging crews, a practice that largely disappeared when workers’ compensation insurance rates soared. Vertical integration, in which a company owns the supply chain for its products, used to be typical in the industry, but Richardson is skeptical of its reinstation, saying that those companies don’t know how to work this labor.

These folks that work for me are fiercely independent. They’re not college graduates. They want to make a living, they want to go hunting and fishing on the weekend, and some of them want to start getting drunk on Friday afternoon.

And that mindset doesn’t fit with most business plans, Cottingham says. Marvin Larrabee of Elk Mound, Wisconsin, says that logging almost has to be passed down in the family. He has four sons assisting him in the business but knows how hard it would be for them to strike out on their own. The expensive equipment is just the start of it. Loggers also have high fuel costs and extremely high insurance premiums. The occupation is consistently ranked one of the most hazardous in the country. Larry Altman of Vermont was a logger for 20 years. He has pins in his ankle from the time a tree fell on him. On another occasion, his arm was crushed between two logs, but luckily he was working that day with a friend who freed him 45 minutes later. “You’ll get hurt bad at least one time logging,” he says. Altman says he’d still do it if you could make money at it, but you can’t.

In this whole picture, there’s a ceiling, and that ceiling is the price paid at the mill. There’s very little wiggle room for the individual logger.

The roots of logging run deep in Vermont. Its first sawmill opened in 1739, and by the middle of the 19th century logging had become Vermont’s largest and most lucrative industry. But today, says Larry Altman, many people, especially in Burlington, have no idea that logging still goes on in Vermont. Those that become aware of it lump the local timber industry in with large-scale, ecologically devastating logging operations in the Pacific Northwest, Canada, South America, and Asia. The fact is, the vast majority of local loggers are sole proprietors, working alone in the woods, usually equipped with little more than a chainsaw, skidder, bulldozer, and truck. Some young people are drawn, nevertheless, to the logging business. Will Coleman, 26, and his brother Wesley, 24, started Coleman Brothers Logging LLC, in December 2012. They operate out of Richburg, South Carolina, harvesting pulpwood and saw timber. The Coleman brothers were able to buy a used Tigercat skidder and feller/buncher with a loan from Natural Capital Investment Fund’s Logging Initiative. NCIF is a business loan fund that provides debt financing to small businesses in West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, south Georgia, and the Appalachian regions of Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio. The Coleman brothers say they doubled their loads in the first week after running the equipment they purchased with their loan. Out on the West Coast, Billy Zimmerman, 25, has launched his own company, Zimmerman Logging LLC, in Rainier, Oregon. Zimmerman was raised on a tree farm his great-grandfather bought in the 1920s, and discovered his love of tree farming at age 10, when his father let him set chokers – setting cables around logs so they can be hauled away – for the first time. He helped his father with farming before and after school and after football practice. In December of last year he decided to go into business for himself. His father gave him a bulldozer, saving him the $160,000 he might have needed for a new one, and his parents gave him $3,000 in seed money. He was in business by March, with a company consisting of Zimmerman, his best friend, and his father Ron. Zimmerman works 11-hour days and is willing to underbid others so he can build a client base and his reputation. And his specialty are small jobs. As he puts it:

There are a ton of little 5- and 10-acre jobs that the guys with big machines cannot justify bringing out there to work that job. But we can. We found our niche in smaller jobs, at least for now, and for what we have it’s been working well.

Bigfoot News July 12, 2014

List of Bigfoot shootings in chronological order. This post is going to be exclusively about the topic of reported incidents of humans shooting and/or killing Bigfoots from 1829 to the present day. I have a lot of other Bigfoot stuff to write about in my notes, but I am a bit overwhelmed by the many notes that I have. Please bear with me. This is a post I have been working on for some time. I finally lost interest in it, and it does need a bit of updating with the Sierra Kills and the Shooting Bigfoot Rick Dyer incident. Both of these may be included in the list for this reason: the list is merely of purported or reported shootings or killings of Bigfoots by humans, and Justin and Rick definitely reported shooting Bigfoots and frankly presented us with more evidence than most of the other folks below have. Anyone who wants to write up the Sierra Kills and/or Dyer incidents in an objective, reporter-style matter of fact way as a police dispatcher would report an incident that someone is calling in (descriptive only) is welcome to try their hand at it. What I mean by descriptive only is you just write down what Justin and Rick said happened in those incidents in reportorial style without commenting on the validity of the claim. Obviously, none of these claims have panned out yet, but it is pretty amazing that for a creature that supposedly does not exist, we have so many excellent shooting stories, often from otherwise credible, ordinary day to day folks who have never been known to make things up or lie. This is a good research piece, and nonprofit websites are free to repost it. Feel free to comment if you any new cases or if you can provide more information to any of the cases below. Note: Long, runs to 61 pages.

Bigfoots Shot At, Shot and Wounded, or Shot Dead by Humans

Unknown date: Klakas Inlet, Southern Alaska. In far southern Alaska on Prince of Wales Island, a Bigfoot was shot and buried at the mouth of a stream on the north side of the inlet. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. Unknown date: Sonora, Mexico. Rich Grumley shot and killed a Bigfoot, then paid a taxidermist to stuff it, and the specimen was put on display in a ritzy country club on the East Coast. Reported by Ray Crowe. Unknown date, modern era: Yankton, Oregon. Near the Columbia River north of Portland, a hunter shot a Bigfoot four times between the eyes and killed it. It rolled off the road. The man came back 24 hours later, and the body was gone. There was a set of three tracks, possibly a family group – a male, a female and a juvenile. Reported by Ray Crowe. Unknown date, modern era, Amboy, Washington. Near Mt. St. Helens, a hunter reported that he shot and killed a male Bigfoot on an old logging road. Upon hearing that there was a $10,000 fine for killing a Bigfoot, the hunter hung up the phone on the researcher. Reported by Ray Crowe. Unknown date, modern era: Pound, Virginia. Someone shot at a Bigfoot roaring outside his home at midnight with a 12 gauge shotgun. The shot missed. Reported by the Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization. June 20, 1829: Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia. A team of hunters set out in an attempt to track down and kill a Bigfoot in the swamp. After tracking for two weeks, they were set upon by the Bigfoot one night. The men opened up with all their guns, but it seemed useless. Five of the men were killed by the Bigfoot, who then tore all of the men’s heads off. The surviving men opened up on the Bigfoot, finally killing it. Reported by Augusta Chronicle, March 12, 2000 – “Hunters Told of Swamp Creature’s Attack.” Mid to late 1800’s: Bexar, Texas. The Legend of the Converse Werewolf. A rancher sent his 15-year-old son into the woods to hunt and told him not to come back until he had killed a deer. The boy never came back. People went searching for him and found the boy’s dead and mutilated body. A Bigfoot was standing over it. The rancher fired a shot and chased the Bigfoot into the woods. The others in the search party reported that the rancher never made it back alive, apparently also killed by the Bigfoot. Reported by the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy. 1856: Ohio or West Virginia. Possible Bigfoot skeleton found with bullet holes in its skull. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. Late 1800’s: Winston, Alabama. A moonshiner shot a Bigfoot that was following his mule wagon. October 1879: Williamstown, Vermont. Two men hunting in the woods were surprised by a Bigfoot. One shot and wounded it. The Bigfoot chased them out of the woods. Reported by the New York Times, October 18, 1879. 1882: Inyo, California. A man, Jack Ferral, shot a Bigfoot five times. Reported by the Inyo Register, March 19, 1981 referring to articles in the Bishop Creek Times of 1882, noted in the Bigfoot Co-op April 1981, p.2. July 4, 1884: East of Yale, British Columbia. In the Fraser River Region, railroad men working on a British Colombia Express Company’s train stopped their train when they saw what appeared to be someone sleeping near the tracks. After they stopped the train, a juvenile male Bigfoot woke up, barked and started to climb up a steep bluff. The workers decided to chase him. One got up above him on the slope and dropped a rock on the Bigfoot. It disoriented the Bigfoot enough that the men were able to get a rope around him, capture him and put him on the train. They named the Bigfoot “Jacko.” Jacko had bruises on his head and upper body, and they assumed that he had gotten too near the edge of the bluff and had fallen over and landed, stunned, near the tracks. Jacko had been seen in the area where he was captured recently, but residents thought he was either a bear or a stray Indian dog. Jacko was 4’7, weighed 127 pounds, and was covered with shiny black hair. He was extremely strong. Jacko did not communicate other than making half-bark, half-growl sounds. He was fed berries and milk. There are conflicting reports on what happened to Jacko. Some reports said he was taken into Yale where a man made a pet of him. Other reports said that Jacko escaped from the train before it got to Yale. There are other reports that say this whole matter was a hoax, but I believe it was true. For one thing, John Green received a letter from Adele Bastin, whose mother remembered that people continued to talk of Jacko long afterward. Reported by The Colonist of Victoria, British Colombia, July 4, 1884. The best analysis of this incident was by Myra Shackley. There are reports that soon after Jacko was captured, a Bigfoot matching Jacko’s description was shot and killed in the same general area by a group of men, so the story about him escaping from the train before it got to Yale may be the correct version. Famous story. June 1885: Watauga County, North Carolina. Northwest of Seven Devils, NC. Roughly 15 to 20 miles northwest of Grandfather Mountain. A 13-year-old Cherokee girl went to gather food along a creek. Then she heard gunshots. She hid under a bush because at that time it was dangerous for an Indian girl to be caught in the woods by a White man. She heard someone running down the hill. As something ran past her, to her surprise she noted that it was a male Bigfoot. It seemed to have been wounded by the shots. The Bigfoot went down to the creek and buried itself in a pile of leaves, sticks, dirt and debris to the point where it was invisible. Then she heard the sounds of more people coming. She thought it was the White men, so she left. Reported by the Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization. 1890: Brookings, Oregon. Two men shot and wounded a Bigfoot. The Bigfoot retaliated, slamming the men against trees and tearing them apart, killing them. Reported by the Bigfoot Track Record. 1900: Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. The Eskimo came out of the forest onto the beach and was met face to face with a Bigfoot. He opened fire and killed the Bigfoot. He and two other Eskimos then buried the Bigfoot on the beach. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. 1904: Lane, Oregon. On two separate occasions, men shot at Bigfoots that were prowling around their cabins. The shots missed the Bigfoots on both occasions. In one case, the Bigfoot threw a rock at the man who shot at it. Reported by the Bigfoot Encounters website. 1905: Gardner Canal, British Columbia. On the coast of central British Columbia, a Bigfoot was shot and killed, but there are no further details. Reported on the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club website. Summer 1917: Cass, Texas. A family coming home at night in a mule driven wagon was alerted by a screaming, advancing Bigfoot. The man shot at the Bigfoot, missed, and it ran away. Reported by the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy. 1917: Nowata, Oklahoma. Men shot at a Bigfoot that had gotten trapped inside of a barn. Reported by the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy. 1920’s: Walla Walla, Washington. Hunters shot and wounded a Bigfoot, but the Bigfoot ran away. A second Bigfoot appeared and threw boulders at the hunters. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. 1920’s-1930’s: Lake, California. A man hunted red-haired wildmen that lived in caves above a lake. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. 1921: Terrebonne, Louisiana. Hunters killed a Bigfoot and dumped the body in an old well. Later a skeleton was found and taken to Tulane University, where it disappeared. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. 1924: Deschutes, Oregon. A prospector shot a Bigfoot five times, but the Bigfoot was only wounded and ran away. Reported in the Bigfoot Track Record. 1924: Ape Canyon, Washington. Near Mt. St. Helens, miners Marion Smith, Roy Smith, Fred Beck, Gabe Lefever and John Peterson, shot and killed a Bigfoot, which fell off a cliff into a river below. Other Bigfoots retaliated and bombarded their cabin with rocks. Famous story. Reported by Fred Beck. 1928: South Bentinck Arm, near Bella Coola, British Columbia. People saw a black body lying in a field the next morning. Ten minutes later, it had vanished. Planes flew around the area night and day for two weeks. Locals reported that there had been a hostile Bigfoot in the area, and they were trying to appease it by leaving food out for it so it would not kill their animals. The next day the woman who reported the incident went back to the area, and someone had taken the body away. Reported by Mary Green. Government coverup. They sent it back, and it was given a ceremonial burial by Lakota elders. Reported by Ray Crowe. Government coverup.

Bigfoot News August 19, 2013

Rick Dyer recants all of his weird stories about Hank the Bigfoot. In a recent podcast, Rick said he made up a lot of stuff about Hank, including that it was pregnant, had double organs and had male and female genitalia. Then he laughed at everyone who was stupid enough to believe it. It is probable that the other things he said about Hank – that it has organs never seen by science, that it has a retractable pouch for its penis, that it has a slit on its nose are all lies too. So is the notion that it is chimeric, that seems to be another lie. Rick has now shown that he will lie like crazy in the course of this story. Actually, this is not the first lie he has told in the course of this story. The fact that he has lied and now hoaxed in his latest stunt where he invited people to Los Angeles to see a fake baby Bigfoot shows that during the course of this story, he has lied repeatedly and he has also hoaxed. So at this point, now that he has lied and hoaxed throughout this story, there is no reason for any sane person to believe anything he says about this story, whether it is true or not. Let’s all just forget about Rick Dyer for now, and maybe he will go away. Bigfoot World disappointed in Dyer’s latest stunt. When Rick invited his “haters” to come to Los Angeles to see a fake baby Bigfoot, a lot of the scene was on edge. Some thought that maybe there was a baby Bigfoot, but that seemed so dubious. When a few people showed up, they quickly learned that Rick had punked them by not even showing up. That’s actually fraud, and they have a case to take him to Small Claims Court over that. You can’t tell someone, fly to Los Angeles and I will show you something, and then not be there when they fly to LA. You owe them the cost of a plane ticket. Rick lost almost all of his former supporters over this little stunt and the rest of the community was absolutely disgusted him. He now only has a tiny group of diehards around him including Frank Cali and unfortunately Musky Allen. Frank was actually in on this hoax, which is disappointing. Musky laughed and cheered on the hoax when he heard that Steve Kulls had wasted airfare to fly to LA, which leaves me very disappointed in Musky. It was a very bad move by Rick Dyer. Christopher Noel said:

I am withdrawing my energies from the Dyer situation and won’t be publicly supporting his claims anymore until/unless I get to see the body myself. I am not jumping ship…just going quiet. Waiting to be granted 10

Christopher also noted that Rick had pulled Frank Cali into his stunt by telling Frank the lie that the Bigfoot had both male and female genitalia. Frank, not knowing better, repeated that lie on the radio show and was made to look like a total fool. And because he lied about Hank, Frank’s credibility is now completely screwed.

The way he hung Frank Cali out to dry by setting him up to host the show solo and (unwittingly) lie to the world about the double-gender findings made me sick to my stomach. Frank’s credibility is based on his good word, and that was publicly squandered when he was forced to take part in Rick’s false information and false promise.

Theory about why the release date was moved back to January 14, 2014. A source reported to me her theory on why the investors did this:

The body team wants to distance themselves from Rick because they think he’s finally gone off the deep end. Seeing him post a million “update” videos about a false promise on Thursday was the last straw for them in terms of trying to work with him and now they want to free themselves of having to keep him in the loop, even to the small extent they have been. So they tell him this outlandish new date and make it sound firm so that he will go away and not bug them for information, as he would if he still thought the date was anytime soon. It’s entirely possible that they were so totally disgusted with this latest prank that they were motivated to strike back against Rick by telling him a date that would hurt him deeply. If that’s true, then they can’t honestly be concerned about his and his family’s safety. Their safety is at greater risk the more Rick is seen as a treacherous amoral egomaniac. There have already been several attacks. Their dog was killed, for instance.

Frank Cali may be distancing himself from Rick Dyer. A source reported this theory to me about Frank.

I have this sneaking suspicion that Frank may be bowing out. He’s normally on FB all day and today not at all. Either that or the stress has sent him back to the hospital. And what better proof of Rick’s toxicity than that he is only too happy to drag Frank along on this maniacal ride?

However, I am not sure that that is true as Frank sent me a couple of emails recently as a representative of Rick’s organization. Rick Dyer sending out lawsuit threats. I have received two lawsuit threats from Rick Dyer’s group via the disgusting Frank Cali. They ordered me to take down Rick’s videos that I was hosting on my site because they said it was a violation of Rick’s copyright. All I was doing was linking to the videos and I had not copied them myself, so I don’t see how this is a violation. Anyway, it’s not lawsuit material. I think you are supposed to issue a DMCA takedown order rather than filing suit. A judge would probably throw it out of court. You stole some guy’s public Youtube video by hotlinking to it? LOL! One letter was from Rick’s “attorney.” I seriously doubt if this attorney even exists. I Googled the name and could not come up with much. He probably doesn’t even have an attorney. Theory that Musky Allen conspired with Rick Dyer to destroy Facebook Find Bigfoot. Before the Rick Dyer Tent Video appeared last September, Musky told a friend of his that he was going to destroy Facebook Find Bigfoot if that was the last thing he did. That was his mission in life. He hated them because they were promoting the “hoax that is Bigfoot.” Later he defended Rick Dyer because he said the community needed more Rick Dyers. By that, Musky meant that Rick was a hoaxer, and the community needed more great hoaxers hoaxing us all the time in order to show us what fools we were for believing the hoax that is Bigfoot. People take this comment supporting Rick to mean the start of Musky conspiring with Rick in Rick’s latest Bigfoot hoax. Later when Rick released his Tent Video, Musky completely slammed it as fake. This does not make sense if he was in with Rick on a hoax, but somehow, this was all part of the conspiracy. Then as Rick’s “hoax” unfolded, it turned out that the Dyer haters did in fact take down Facebook Find Bigfoot, destroying the group and removing all of its great videos from Youtube. I will never forgive the Dyer haters for doing that. Those were some of the finest Bigfoot videos of all time. Also the men behind FB/FB were unmasked, and they were harassed and humiliated in public. Most of Musky’s friends left him and Musky was harassed until the end of time. Rick was also harassed to Hell (not that he didn’t deserve it) but also his dog was killed by the haters. Seems a Hell of a price to pay for a hoax. Anyway since the whole Dyer affair resulted in the destruction of FB/FB (even though the haters did it and not Musky) supposedly Musky’s goal to see them taken down was realized. Some are even saying that Musky himself took down FB/FB with complaints, which seems dubious. This whole theory doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me, but that is what the Dyer skeptics are pushing. Bigfoot World withdrawing interest in Rick Dyer. Although as you can see, I am continuing to report about him, I am trying to do a lot less of it. Following Noel, I think it best if we just go quiet and wait and see what he has, if anything. As one of my sources put it:

But look at this, we’re spending all this energy on him. Narcissists thrive on energy spent by others. Like any schoolyard bully, he is best fought via the withdrawal of energy. I feel like if everybody stopped paying attention to him, he’d go the way of the Wicked Witch: “I’m melting!”

Very interesting baby Bigfoot photo.

Interesting photo of a purported baby Bigfoot.
Interesting photo of a purported baby Bigfoot.
Although this photo is very blurry and it is hard to make out anything at all, there is something that I like very much about this picture that few if any hoaxers are able to pull off. I won’t even say what that is as there are way too many evil hoaxers as it is, and the more we tell them, the better they make their hoaxes. But I do like this photo. Night vision Sasquatch sighting Zigzag Oregon. No one knows quite what to make out of this, but in the comments on the Youtube posting, many commenters are saying it is a guy in a ghillie suit. That is what it may well be. I do not have the faintest idea. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao59YzoVIlo]

Joel Patrick Courtney

Joel Patrick Courtney is a possible serial killer from Albuquerque, New Mexico who was convicted of the murder of Brooke Wilberger in Oregon and the abduction and attempted rape of a New Mexico female exchange student.

The disappearance of Wilberger shocked the town of Corvalis, Oregon when she disappeared in 2004. She was washing lampposts outside her apartment complex when she vanished. The crime scene looked as if a forced abduction had taken place. Soon afterwards, a green van was seen driving erratically in the area. That was the only clue. Her body would not be found for years.

The investigation soon focused on Sun Koo Kim, a 30 year old man living with his parents in Tigard, Oregon, 8 miles north of Corvalis. Kim had graduated from Washington State University with degrees in Genetics and Cellular Biology.

Kim had been arrested 10 days before for stalking a student at Oregon State University in Corvalis. The woman frequented the same apartment complex where Wilberger disappeared. Kim had a photo of the woman he was stalking, her bio, and a bag of dryer lint from the apartment complex.

Kim was a very odd bird. When they searched his house, they found 3,400 pairs of panties stolen from eight different colleges around Oregon. Apparently he had been breaking into women’s rooms and stealing their panties. Although this behavior seems innocent, it is a lot worse than it seems.

There are men who only break into women’s places and steal their underwear, but unfortunately that particular crime (breaking into women’s places and stealing their underwear) is also associated with men who abduct, rape, torture, and kill women and in some cases children.

Why so many killers are also fetishists is not known. Another common behavior with dangerous predators is peeping. Many peepers are pretty innocent, but it is common for a dangerous rapist type to start out his crimes in his teen years as a peeper and petty burglar. The violation of another person’s being, either their privacy or the actual violation of their space in a break-in, may be what is important here.

They also found 40,000 pornographic photos and 4,000 videos of women being tortured and raped. There are websites out there who have pics and movies like this, but I do not think that this is harmless.

Most very dangerous rapists or killer types also like to collect this stuff. If they have a pornography collection, it tends to be this sort of thing. They also often collect pornography of women who appear to be dead. Yes, there is actually a market for this sort of thing. Most serial killers have collections of this sort of stuff.

Most of Kim’s porn collection consisted of women being tortured, raped, killed, or dismembered. Collecting this sort of pornography, which is probably hard to find, is not an innocent pastime, anyone who collects this stuff is playing with fire, and in many cases is a dangerous person at least in their minds even if they are not acting it out.

It’s not ok to collect porn like that. It shows that you have a demented and bent mind at the very least and at worst you may be dangerous. No healthy person would collect porn like that.

Now, I have quite a large porn collection on my hard drive, but I do not think I have any videos of women being raped or tortured. That stuff is not my thing.

The men who like this sort of thing are sexual sadists. Being a sexual sadist is A-OK in the BD/SM community, most of which is made up of either sadists or masochists.

On the other hand, you do find some dangerous people in the BD/SM scene, especially males. Women in the scene have many scary stories to tell about sadistic men they met in that underworld, many of whom were psychopaths. And quite a few rapists, kidnappers, killers, and serial killers get involved in the swinging or group sex scene. They especially like the BD/SM aspect to it. The BD/SM scene is not as innocent as you think, and it attracts quite a few folks who are anywhere from uncool to dangerous.

He also had child porn.

On his computer, Kim also had a file called osu.doc which detailed a plan to abduct, rape, strangle, and then mutilate a woman.

Unfortunately, this is also pretty common with killers. They often keep detailed notes of their depraved fantasies. They collect notes and newspaper clippings of their crimes, including their rapes and homicides. Drawings and maps are often included. When they go to prison, they continue to produce drawings, maps, and stories about their morbid fantasies. In the computer era, it is not uncommon to find a file with a detailed plan to kill someone on the computer of a dangerous person.

It is not against the law to have fantasies or even plans to kill people in files on your computer. They have to prove that the person was actually going to carry out these plans, and that involves a conspiracy charge. Conspiracy is one of the hardest charges to make stick.

After Wilberger disappeared in Oregon in 2004, later that year a foreign exchange student was abducted at knife-point in Albuquerque. She was threatened with a knife and sexually assaulted. She managed to escape from him and ran screaming across a street and into a Mexican restaurant.

A teenage girl driving in a car with her mother saw the naked girl running across the street and pulled into a parking lot. No one in the restaurant would help her. She was coming out when the girl and her mother grabbed her and got her into their car. The abductor then drove very slowly by their car parked car.

Police went to the parking lot where the abduction took place and found a shoelace. People in the area said a man named “Joe” hung around there a lot. Based on information given by the college student, police arrested Joel Courtney.

Police had been called to Courtney’s place five months before for a report about him beating his wife.

Courtney also had a record of sexual assault dating from age 18. In this case, he had been drinking and using drugs with a female friend when they were driving home for the evening. He started kissing and fondling her while she was driving him home (bad idea in a moving vehicle).

She pushed him away and told him to stop. He flipped out and punched her. The car was stopped and he grabbed her and threw her down on the ground and stripped her naked. She stopped fighting him and he lost interest. She learned that he had done similar things to other girls her age, so she went to the police. He was arrested on sexual assault charges.

As a teenager, Courtney started getting in trouble at age 13, and at 14, he got interested in Satanism.

Already what I am seeing here looks like a budding psychopath and by adulthood, he appears to meet criteria for psychopathy.

His relatives reported sexual assaults during his teenage years. His sister and cousins reported waking up a number of times with him on top of them, sometimes straddling them and sometimes with his hands around their neck.

This sort of behavior is very disturbing in a teenage boy, but it is not uncommon to see this sort of thing in the background of rapists, killers, and serial killers. As boys and teenagers, they hide in their female relatives rooms and spy on them. The girls wake up to find the boy standing over their bed watching them.

A boy who is repeatedly assaulting his female relatives in their sleep, especially putting his hands around their necks, is one disturbed boy. Most boys simply do not do such things. What you have here is a budding rapist and  possible killer.

Somehow, the Corvalis police came up with evidence against Courtney for the Wilberger homicide. I have no idea what evidence led them to that conclusion. As part of a plea deal, Courtney told officials the location of her body and confessed to the crime, so he definitely did the deed. He was recently sentenced.

The FBI feels that he may have been involved in the homicides of three other women in Oregon, and they are seeking information about that.

He is a strong suspect in the murder of Kathryn Eggleston, a saleswoman abducted from an Oregon parking lot in 1993. She was last seen walking out of an elevator with a dark complexioned man wearing a blue blazer. Her body has never been found.

He was also a suspect in the murder of Stephanie Condon in Oregon in 1998, but another man is also suspected of that crime. He was recently acquitted.

Prosecutors say Courtney is a possible serial killer and may have left victims in New Mexico, Oregon, Florida, and Alaska, as he lived in all of those places as her traveled around.

1825: When the US South Was Not Yet White

Repost from the old site. Most people take it as a given that the USA as a nation and society is and always has been basically White, even mostly British or Northern European White. We have only to look at the authors of the Constitution and signers of the Declaration of Independence to see that all of them where White. And as the Christian fundamentalists love to remind us, they were all “Christians” too. Too bad most of them were actually Deists. It’s true since 1830 or so (see 1830 census figures Excel, pdf ), this has been a majority-White land, and that is the picture most people’s memory and cultural knowledge of this country gives them. But Whites have only been here a short while, and we were immigrants, or actually invaders at first, ourselves. Previously, this land was inhabited 10 In California and the Southwest, we have even had Hispanics (almost all Mexicans) living here before those states were even a part of the US. A Filipino was part of the party that founded Los Angeles before California was even a state. He got sick in Baja and ended up staying there, but he was still present on the voyage. See below where many more Filipinos were already in this country even before 1781. On the eve of the Gold Rush, there were a mere 1,000 Chinese in the US. Only seven of them were in California. But within a year of becoming a state, California was full of East Indians (Hindoos), Samoans/Hawaiians, Mexicans and other Pacific Islanders (Kanakas) and Chinese, all come for the Gold Rush. By 1852, there were 25,000 Chinese alone in California. All of these groups stayed on through the whole decades-long Gold Rush and afterwards remained here as residents in the US. So are West Africans, as this is where many of the American slaves came from. There was a Filipino settlement in St. Malo, Louisiana, in 1763, before the US was even formed. The first Chinese immigrants came to the US in 1820, but before the Gold Rush, only 1,000 or so had arrived. Japanese and Filipinos have been present in Hawaii in large numbers since 1890, and Koreans have been present in much smaller numbers there from 1896. Hawaii was only made into a state in 1959. Cubans have also been here a very long time. Hundreds of Cubans came to St. Augustine, Florida in 1565, over 200 years before there was a USA. Similarly, the first Jamaicans (a party of 20) in America were already in Jamestown, the first White British colony in the US, by 1619. Further, many Jamaicans were included in slave shipments to the US since Jamaica was a way station along the way between Africa and the US. Significant numbers – two large ships full of Chilean and Peruvian miners were in California for the Gold Rush as early as 1848. A couple of thousand Brazilian and Caribbean Blacks also came for the Gold Rush. Note that California did not become a state until 1850. Pakistanis (people from what later became Pakistan) were in the US since the 1700’s and continuing into the 1800’s in Oregon and Washington, working in agriculture, logging and mining in California. The first known East Indian Hindu came to the US in 1790, soon after the Declaration of Independence, as a maritime worker. Mexicans, Samoans, Blacks, Cubans, East Indians, Pakistanis, Chileans, Peruvians, Filipinos, American Indians, Canadians, Japanese, West Africans, Hawaiians, Japanese, Koreans and Chinese have been here in significant, not trivial, numbers, from the very start. They are not, as groups, wholly immigrants or foreigners to this land. They are not foreign to American culture – they are part of the very building blocks of it. Perhaps Germany, Russia, Sweden, France and most of Europe can lay claim to being predominantly White countries for centuries or millenia, but the US cannot. On the inside back cover of a recent issue of American Heritage Magazine was a painting of the Antediluvian American South with some text below. The text took me aback. I shook my head and read it again and again and it’s stuck in my head ever since. It said that in 1825, the US South1 was estimated to be 3 Both the US South, and the nation as a whole, were already White-minority as early as 35 years after signing of the Constitution. Take that, “White America” fools! The White America of movies, TV, magazines, books and memories was just a temporary mirage, a ship passing in the night. Now, as the USA moves back to becoming a White-minority land, we are not changing the basic nature, culture and essence of this nation. We just reverting to our roots. I am not arguing for unlimited immigration to this land (In fact, I want to seriously limit it) and I am a staunch opponent of illegal immigration. Nevertheless, it angers me when White Nationalists act like this is some kind of a “White country”. Nothing could be further from the truth. 1I misremembered the text in the issue – it referred to the US South only, not the US as a whole. A look at the US Census Bureau information (Excel file here, pdf here) clears up the mystery. A 3 The 2 Figures for the whole of the US reveal a White majority, however, if we include the Amerindians living in the Louisiana Purchase at that time (recently part of the US in 1825), we can still make a case for a non-White majority in the US. See note 3 below for more on that. 2There were numerically small numbers of Filipinos, Chinese, Mexicans, pre-Pakistanis (people from the land that would later become Pakistan), East Indians and Cubans here in 1825, but they probably added up to less than 3The American Heritage figures quoted have now been called into question (see comments at the end of this post and the comments at the end of the frankly White racist American Renaissance article that linked this piece); the suggestion is that Blacks made up 1 The mystery is cleared up in note 1, where the magazine text referred to only the US South, not the US as a whole. Indians were not counted in either the 1820 or 1830 censuses, and may have numbered 8 million in the US at the time (recall that the Louisiana Purchase had just been added to the nation). Figure 12 million Indians in the US and Canada pre-contact, with 9 This leaves us with 7 million Indians in the US in 1825. Further, runaway slaves were clearly not counted, probably 1

The Waterworld of the Delta Yokuts

Repost from the old site. One of the more thrilling passages I have ever read was an account of the first Spanish contacts with the Indians of the California Delta. In expeditions around 1800-1810, Spanish ships sailed into the Delta and first contacted these tribes, who have since vanished with almost no trace left except for their names and a handful of word lists. There were around 5-10 tribes in the Delta, all Yokuts. Yokuts is just a White word for a group of about 60 tribes who all spoke related languages. Yokuts just means “man” in the Yokuts languages so we stuck that name on them as a way to characterize them. The Yokuts came to California along with the ancestors of the Ohlone (Costanoan) and Miwok around 4000-5000 years ago. The Ohlone then took off towards the San Fransisco Bay Area, the Miwok towards the Central Sierra Nevada and the Yokuts to the Delta, San Joaquin Valley and Central and Southern Sierra Nevada. Prior to migrating to the Delta, this conglomeration of groups (Yok-Utian) were located in southeastern Oregon, now a desert but at that time a series of marshlands. They moved down the spine of the California-Oregon border and settled in the Delta. The Yok-Utians are surely related linguistically to some other Penutian language groups, in particular Klamath, Sahaptian and Wintu. The Klamath are in northeastern California, the Wintu around Shasta Lake, and the Sahaptians towards northeastern Oregon and Idaho. Penutian studies by Scott Delancey available on the net make this connection quite clear to me. The Delta Yokuts were part of a group called Northern Valley Yokuts. They had only come to the Delta continuously fleeing the missions, so there was a continuous need to repopulate them with new Indians. With demissionization, Indians dispersed from the missions and formed haphazard groupings other demissionized Indians of varying linguistic and cultural backgrounds, enhancing the linguistic and cultural genocidal processes described above. Many others married Spaniards, mestizos or Californios and adopted those cultures, losing their own. That this should happen to such a loving and warm people is especially poignant. Some of the best records we have of these tribes is recorded in the notes of these early Spanish explorers. Some Delta Yokuts (or Far Northern Valley Yokuts – sample words here) languages still had speakers until the early 1900s’s. One language for which decent records exist is called Chalostaca. Other languages are Yachikumne (Chulamni), Cholvons [drawing of nearly naked Cholvons warriors here], Lower San Joaquin, Lakisamni and Tawalimni. The Lakisamni were a warlike tribe along the Stanislaus River who waged a number of famous battles against Mexican forces during 1828-1829. Their leader in these struggles, Estanislao, also waged continuous horse and cattle-stealing raids against local ranchos. He died of smallpox in 1839. The last known Indian who recalled ancestry linking him to the Delta Yokuts was a Tawalimni Yokuts Indian named Gomez who was living in Jamestown, California when interviewed by the famous S.A. Barrett in 1906. He was apparently the last surviving member (or at least the last who knew of his ancestry) of the Delta Yokuts, hammered first by missionization, massacres and epidemics, until the Gold Rush delivered the finishing touch. History Detective resolves the controversy over which tribes inhabited the California Delta and makes clear the entire Delta was inhabited exclusively by Yokuts and not by Miwok Indians. Much of this material is from the superb Handbook of the Yokuts Indians by Frank Latta (1949). It’s been out of print for many years and only 7,000 copies were published, but the book has recently been reissued by Coyote Press in a limited run. If you are interested in the Yokuts, you may want to snap it up. Latta was an amateur anthropologist and linguist from Bakersfield who spent years studying the Yokuts and interviewing some of the last surviving members who still remembered aboriginal ways and spoke the languages fluently.

On Spotted Owls

Repost from the old site. There are three subspecies of spotted owls in the US. The Northern Spotted Owl (NSO) ranged from Oregon and Washington down into the California coast ranges and over into the Siskiyous and Cascades. The California Spotted Owl (CASPO) lives in the Sierra Nevada, down into the Tehachapis and and into the mountain ranges of Southern California. The Southern California population is isolated in mountain ranges that are not connected and is projected to go extinct over at most 100-200 years. Before mass settlement of Southern California, CASPO may have moved from range to range via river corridors, but now that is not possible. The Techachapi CASPO is probably not sustainable either. CASPO also lives in the Coast Ranges south of San Fransisco. The Mexican Spotted Owl lives in the Southwest, mostly in Arizona and New Mexico. It was listed as threatened recently and recently had a huge amount of critical habitat set aside. It seems to be threatened by cattle grazing, but I forget how. Serious overgrazing in the Southwest seems to be devastating the grass and forb understory of the old growth pine forests. This overgrazing has promoted heavy stands of small trees that are susceptible to drought and fire. The truth is that the Southwest should not even be grazed in the first place; it’s too dry and cows just devastate arid regions. Cows evolved in cold, moist England and they are not well suited to arid regions. During the hot, dry months, they congregate in riparian areas, which they utterly devastate. The Eastern US is much moister, and cattle grazing causes few problems there. The NSO was declared a threatened species in 1990, setting off the timber wars in the Pacific Northwest. Clinton pushed through a crappy Northwest Forest Plan, which sold out way more to industry than was necessary. Logging in the region declined by 8 As one might expect, the new regulations did not save the NSO, and it has continued to decline at 3. In the far north, in northern Washington and British Colombia, the NSO is declining at about All spotted owls have selected for old growth forests. A new threat is the Barred Owl, which is a relative of the Spotted Owl, coming down from the north. The Barred Owl is much more tolerant of the open conditions created by massive clearcutting, and is displacing Spotted Owls in many places. In particular, it is interbreeding with them, creating a new hybrid type. Loggers claim that the Barred Owl invasion is the true cause of the NSO decline, but they are lying as usual. The Barred Owl invasion is due to the more open conditions created by out of control clearcutting for decades in the Northwest. The CASPO was petitioned twice for listing, in 2000 and 2004. I haven’t read the petitions, but I have read hundreds of pages of studies on the CASPO. The CASPO, last I heard, was declining at a greater rate than even the NSO. In 2006, the US Fish and Wildlife Service declined to list the CASPO as an endangered species. That strikes me as a wrong decision, but Bush is listing species at a rate even 8 Next to the immigrant hordes flooding our shores, our precious slice of American Gaia has no greater enemy than White Americans. What is curious about this is that White nationalists insist that only Whites are altruistic enough to care enough to be environmentalists in any way. It’s an interesting argument, but it’s sure not true in the US, and almost everyone making this odd argument is voting for the party of Nuke Gaia. Go figure.

“Lansford Hastings and His California Dream,” by Alpha Unit

With visions of Manifest Destiny in his head, Lansford Hastings, a young attorney from Mount Vernon, Ohio, set out for Oregon. It was 1842. He had met a Dr. Elijah White, who had come through Knox County with a group of emigrants on their way to Oregon. Hastings saw opportunity and became a member of their party.

White’s party was being led by Thomas Fitzpatrick, a frontiersman who had, in 1841, led the Bidwell party on an unsuccessful attempt to bring a wagon train into the Mexican territory of California. Circumstances eventually put Hastings in charge.

He was an ambitious young man whose ambitions expanded after going West. His focus soon turned from Oregon to Alta California – that same province of Mexico that other White men saw as a land of opportunity. In 1843 he led a small party to Sutter’s Fort in the Sacramento Valley of California. It had been founded by John Sutter, a Swiss immigrant who had gotten a land grant from the Mexican government. Sutter and Hastings became friends.

Both men believed that a British or French takeover of California was a distinct possibility, and preferred to see California in American hands. What they envisioned was Americans heading West to populate California, rid it of Mexican rule, and create an independent republic.

With this in mind, Hastings wrote The Emigrants’ Guide to Oregon and California, for the purpose of persuading Americans to uproot and head to California.

In the book Hastings mentioned a possible shortcut along the California Trail. The search for shortcuts, or “cutoffs,” was well-established; Hastings wasn’t the only guide who was proposing one.

The exact route to California depended on a number of factors: starting point, final destination, the time of year one traveled, the state of relations with Indian tribes, and, most importantly, water and grass availability. Travelers and their animals needed water and grass, which is why emigrants sought to travel along river valleys.

The trip typically began in April or May, when grass was growing and trails were dry enough to support wagons. It was set to be completed before the first snow out West.

The overland route to California began – as the Oregon Trail did – in towns along the Missouri River. It would diverge from the Oregon Trail in either Idaho, Wyoming, or Utah to take trails leading to the Humboldt River valley of northern Nevada. The Humboldt River provided a pathway across the Great Basin desert as it headed West.

The river would disappear into what is called the Humboldt Sink – an alkali-laden lake. One of the worst sections of the California Trail would then appear: the so-called Forty Mile Desert. Travelers would be crossing an area with no usable water.

It was at this point that travelers had to figure out how to get beyond the desert and over the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Trail split into two major branches here: the Truckee Trail and the Carson Trail. The Truckee and Carson Rivers drained the Sierra Nevada, flowing eastward. So travelers followed the rivers westward to get across the mountains.

In 1844, members of the Stephens party, some of whom were experienced mountain men, met with a Paiute Indian chief who gave them directions over the mountains. As the story goes, he told them to follow the Truckee River to a pass over the Sierra Nevada. It was the Stephens party that completed the opening of the first overland wagon route to California.

Lansford Hastings had eagerly anticipated the arrival of emigrants to California, and he himself led small parties of emigrants. In April of 1846 he left California and headed east to meet the year’s emigration, sending a message to them by way of an eastbound traveler: if they met him at Fort Bridger (in Wyoming), he would lead them on a new, faster route to California.

Sixty to seventy-five wagons traveled with him on this cutoff and made it safely to California. The Donner party, led by brothers George and Jacob Donner and James Reed, were on the trail after this successful trek.

The Hastings Cutoff, which the Donners had also chosen to take, involved difficulties such as a dangerous descent down Weber Canyon (in Utah), a drive across the Great Salt Lake Desert, and a long detour around the Ruby Mountains of Nevada.

The Donner party – consisting of families with their wagons and draft animals – made it to the mouth of Weber Canyon, which sits in the Wasatch Mountain range. Hastings left them a message that the road ahead was impassable, telling them to send someone ahead for new instructions. James Reed and two others set out.

What they had to do was build a road through the Wasatch Mountains. Creating this path set the Donners back a week. In late August they were able to set out across the Great Salt Lake Desert. Their water ran out, and some of their animals took off, so they spent another week at the base of Pilot Mountain trying to recover animals and prepare for the next leg of their trip. They finally got around the Ruby Mountains and arrived at the Humboldt River – and the regular trail.

The delays had cost them about three weeks.

The Donner party was the last emigrant group of 1846 to get to California. They made it to just east of the Sierra Nevada when an early snowfall began. They were stranded in the eastern Sierras.

The details of what the Donner party faced make for some of the most harrowing stuff I’ve ever read. What those families went through can only be described as a living Hell. The Donner party were men with their wives and children. A number of the children were quite young. Among them were infants.

Roughly half of them didn’t make it. Most of the dead were men.

It was in April of the following year that a rescue party – one of several – brought out the last member of the Donner party, a man named Louis Keseberg.

Some people who chronicle these events lay much of the blame for what happened to the Donners right at the feet of Lansford Hastings. They say he promoted that alternate route through the Wasatch Mountains without having traveled it himself.

It is also suggested that he may have actually taken the route but that he had been on horseback with other men – a far different scenario from being in a caravan of oxen-drawn wagons.

The same year the last member of the Donners was brought into California marked the end of hostilities in California involving the Mexican-American War. The war was concluded there by informal agreement, the Treaty of Cahuenga. The Californios (Californians of Mexican descent) agreed to lay down arms for the duration of the war and conform to the laws of the United States. In six months, U.S. naval forces had seized and “pacified” the entire area of what is today California.

Lansford Hastings had dreamed of holding high office in an independent Republic of California, but his aspirations were to go nowhere. The “Capitulation of Cahuenga” saw to that. The following year, Mexico formally gave up Alta California, among other territories, in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

Hastings wasn’t quite done with California, though. Pro-South during the Civil War, he favored a plan to separate California from the Union and unite it with the Confederacy. His plan came to nothing.
