The Royal Guardsmen, “Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron”

“Snoopy vs. the Red Baron,” from the album by the same name, was released in 1966. Almost 60 years ago! It’s a great oddball song from the 1960’s by the Florida-based pop music band The Royal Guardsmen, who almost no one has heard of before or since, though many people have heard this song. It was written by Phil Gernhard and Dick Holler. It’s best classed as a novelty song.

The song became an immediate smash hit, and the band went on tour with some of the greatest 60’s bands of all time, including The Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere & the Raiders, The Turtles, The Who, and The Monkees.

I don’t think this band’s albums sold very well, but some of their singles did.
