It looks like the Nazis mutilated the face of the soldier on the left, but he is still alive.
I believe that the Nazis gouged out the eye of that Asiatic Russian soldier. They particularly hate Asiatic Russians for racist reasons and they consider Russians non-White “mongrels;” whereas they are “pure Whites.” A lot of German Nazi hatred of Russia was along the same lines.
