American Gangster

American Gangster.

An excellent movie. Highly recommended for all of my readers if you like this sort of thing. Not nearly as esoteric as Lynch, this movie is very easy to follow. Excellent plot and superb performances by Denzel Washington as the drug kingpin and Russell Crowe as the detective who doggedly tracks him down.

  1. Supposedly, Frank Lucas exaggerated how important his role in the rackets was in Harlem after the death of Bumpy Johnson (the king of Harlem gangsters). Yes, Lucas was Johnson’s chauffeur and gofer, but he, Nicky Barnes and other Harlem street guys were basically just big volume drug dealers (for a time). They didn’t have Bumpy’s all around gangster game. That movie pissed alot of people in New York off.

  2. It beats me how people would want to risk going to jail – a lot of jail – for doing this stuff. I can’t even stand the thought of a month!

    1. Ever been to jail? Ever spent as much as a minute in jail? LOL I have. Dude, it’s not just a month. You could probably barely tolerate an hour in there. I couldn’t.
