Dana Rohrabacher Is Gay

Dana is in the news a lot lately.

Just thought I would tell you. My Mom used to work for a clinical psychologist, Dr. R., who knew both Dana and Dana’s brother Kim well. Kim died in 2007 at age 62. Dr. R. once told her that Kim loved women, unlike Dana, is how he put it. Kim was a notorious womanizer who rampaged through small armies of women.

Dr. R’s implication in saying Dana didn’t like women was that he liked men instead, i.e., he was gay. My mother called me up on the phone and told me about the conversation and that the implication was that Dana was gay.

I suppose it could mean that he was simply a celibate heterosexual, but people usually don’t talk that way about such straights.

He married in 1998 soon after gay rumors about him got going in a strong way. Word on the street at the time was that the wife was a beard. He did have triplets with her recently though, but a lot of gay men marry and have kids.

Turns out I am not alone in this speculation. Dana said, apropos of nothing and out of the blue, that he was not gay, to a reporter interviewing him. The reporter was taken aback as there was no reason for Dana to say that.

Dana said that the DA, Mike Capizzi, in a case against Dana’s friend Scott Baugh, a California Republican Assemblyman, had been spreading a rumor that Dana was gay. Dana denied it.

However, Baugh is almost certainly gay. Soon after these rumors went a-swirling, Baugh married a woman. So did Dana.

Capizzi beat around the bush about whether Dana was gay or not, but he did say that he didn’t spread any rumors. Nevertheless, he appears to have lied about that. A prominent member of the Republican Party in Newport Beach told reporters that Dana was gay.

The local paper The Orange County Register tried to help Dana counter the rumors by running a story about his antics in straight bars. The story never showed up, probably because Dana does not go to such places. In Dana’s first election, several people who knew Dana reported to the local media that he was gay.

Dana shared a house with another man for many years. Rumor is that the man was his boyfriend. A gay activist who specializes in outing homophobic gay politicians has listed Dana as one of the ones he wants to out.

I’m not sure if we will ever be able to prove this about Dana until people come forward saying they had sex with him, especially now that he’s married up.

Incidentally, Dana’s legislative record is wildly anti-gay. I know that the “homophobes are gay” argument is pure nonsense. A few homophobes are gay men engaging in reaction formation, but most are not. They’re just assholes who hate your guts. Nevertheless it is common for closeted gay politicians to be stridently anti-gay.
