Chasing a White Whale: The Endless Drive to Kill a Nonexistent Problem Called Affirmative Action

Zamfir: It’s a drive to kill a nonexistent problem because AA is already illegal. The far worst of it is gone now. There is some left, but it’s not nearly as bad as it used to be and there doesn’t seem to be any way the strange remainders. It’s a big deal over nothing.

In California state universities, there is no over-representation of any group or discrimination against anyone because they have open enrollment and the seats never fill up. Everybody gets in. Of course if your GPA is too low because your IQ is too low, you might not get in. You only need a C average to get into California state universities. But most of those people flunk out in the first year or two.In California state universities, there is no over-representation of any group or discrimination against anyone because they have open enrollment and the seats never fill up. Everybody gets in. Of course if your GPA is too low because your IQ is too low, you might not get in. You only need a C average to get into California state universities. But most of those people flunk out in the first year or two. It’s a white whale. You’re waging endless war on something that is hardly much of a big deal, but you think it is. You’re chasing this affirmative action whale through thick and thin for decades, and you never kill it. What’s the point? How are you going to fix AA now that it’s already illegal and people are monkeying with the law to get around it? Make new laws? What will you outlaw now? You’re chasing a phantom. As long as they are monkeying with the law like that, there’s nothing to outlaw. You’re going to outlaw their weird programs no one understands that they put in instead? How can you outlaw something you can’t even understand? You will make a new law and they will just monkey with it and screw around and devise more ways of getting around it. Anyway non-White enrollment has collapsed at the larger elite schools like Berkeley Law. Actually it has collapsed everywhere the anti-AA laws were successfully implemented. There’s nothing to fight anymore. Anti-AA people won. You’re all riled up about nothing, like most IP types. You’re obsessed with your IP too.

  1. I don’t live in California and didn’t mean to restrict my claims to one state. But AA (or something essentially just like it) is widely practiced. Harvard is facing a lawsuit over AA right now. Harvard refers to it as an “affirmative action” issue, even:
    https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2018/06/a-new-front-in-the-battle-over-affirmative-action
Is it a big deal? I don’t know. For me it is. For anyone who might miss out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity it is. For the people who benefit from it, and don’t want these practices changed, it is. But obviously this is a subjective matter. Some people care, because their prospects in life are affected, and other people don’t, because it makes no difference to their lives.
I don’t think I’m “obsessed” with the issue. It was an example, to illustrate the larger point that people with a common interest based on race or sex could reasonably practice something like “identity politics”. That this doesn’t have to be crazy or hateful.
But also, consider how AA became technically illegal in California. How did that happen?
Well, I’m pretty sure one major factor was that people with some degree of racial consciousness acted in the interests of their racial group: they didn’t want their kids to be excluded from law school or whatever on the basis of race. That’s good!
It would still be legal if no one had agitated against it.
Now imagine that instead of organizing politically on an implicitly racial basis they just said “We’re White men and we’re standing up for our group”. Would that be so bad? I don’t really see any difference except that the second approach is more honest.
Standing up for your race or sex, having a movement based on collective interests of that kind, is not necessarily bad. Sometimes it’s just natural and healthy. If other people are trying to push you around, and they’re organized collectively, you can’t defend yourself if you’re just a bunch of individuals with no solidarity. Same principle as class-based politics.
So I still don’t know why you seem to think any kind of race- or sex- or culture-based political movement is bad or irrational. I’m not proposing a society where everyone is always “obsessed” with their race or sex or nationality.
I’m saying that in the right circumstances people can reasonably and morally join together to defend the interests of a group defined by race or sex (or really any other characteristic that people care about).

    1. “Now imagine that instead of organizing politically on an implicitly racial basis they just said “We’re White men and we’re standing up for our group”. Would that be so bad?”
The problem is that once people start thinking along those lines, they’re completely irrational, make no sense and are generally severe assholes.
I don’t think you understand. I hung out on the Alt Right for years. I was friends with Jared Taylor. I know these people. I know exactly how they think. And 99% of them are serious, hardcore, big deal, major, out and out racist assholes. It doesn’t seem to be possible for people to be openly pro-White without turning into irrational racist fucks. That’s the problem with it. People can’t do this sanely or reasonably. They can only do this on a very irrational and ugly racist basis.
The people against AA here were not organized on the basis of being White, so they were not total racist shits. They were basically rational people. Anyway, I’m sure Asians were involved too. I’m against AA and I am not an irrational racist fuck. So just organizing around “AA is fair” was ok. A lot of these people were probably soft racists, but it was not a problem as the racism never got virulent.
“Is it a big deal? I don’t know. For me it is.”
I just showed you how here in California, even with their fancy formulae, the virulence of AA has been reduced by 80%. So it’s still around but it’s a shadow of what it used to be. You are looking at a mouse and insisting it’s a rottweiler.
You are obsessed with it. Have you noticed that you only talk about this race thing, sometimes in several long posts a day. That’s obsession. You are making a mountain out of a molehill and getting all worked up over phantoms and fake threats.

      1. I talk about it with you because you’ve said very extreme things about it. Often in long posts. Often many a day. I talk about other things with other people. But yes I do think it’s important. Racial politics has always been important but now it’s urgent because we have an official anti-white ideology in place. (Are you “obsessed” with economics and class? Are you “obsessed” with pedophiles or the dating scene?)
You’re just pathologizing me rather than dealing with my arguments. You”ve said things that are just demonstrably false, such as that all IP people are haters, etc. I have offered counter-arguments because I care about the issue. I am not like that. Woes isnt. Frame Game isn’t. Nowicki isn’t. Etc.
A lot of what you’re saying here is just repetitive assertion without evidence. How do you know that we just can’t combat anti-white IP with pro-white IP? How are you so certain? The movement is new, and this is a new age with new problems. You seem dogmatic. If you have reasons beyond just restating that “all” people like me are paranoid haters, I’m happy to consider them.

      2. Robert is the Edward Norton character who turned against white nationalism on American History X, LOL.

  2. === Always think that affirmative action is to overcome the white boy preferencia of the BIG colleges and universities. Think then it absurd as most all white boys and girls cannot qualify by way of failure to be able to pay for such as YALE, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, etcetera, the BIG U’s. This money difficulty is no different for poor whites any more than for any non-white. The create of cheaper community colleges to assist in getting into a ‘regular’ (any) college is as the way they make correcting or, overcoming, such white boy preferencia, or, so do figure. Such also gives poor white boys a chance, equal. {How many ‘poor’ colleges (non-IVY LEAGUE and such associating) exist who care about race back then (50’s, 60’s, 70’s)? Do not know. Who cares now? Cannot believe any, except for oddities. Am not hearing of anything.}
    — Then hear of non-whites being a preferencia over whites. The whole point of affirmative action is to challenge the racial preferncia and sexual preferncia. It becomes a different thing than assumpts originally.
    — Do find the book DAVID AND GOLIATH by Malcolm Gladwell (c)2013, and find out the utter absurdity of many assumpts. He reminds of self’s white mother who takes a high school course in basic bookkeeping and gets a hiring over the Ph.D. accountants and CPA’s, because, she can actually read and fill out the weird government forms (recall her poring over them, line by line, with a ruler and a pencil) a doctors’ hospital depends on. Mother saves them (hospital) half a million by billing past non-payers they before give up on (most end up paying !), and, she ends up with her own office (with window), electric calculator, and, IBM electric typewriter (1965 or 6).
[— Please excuse my English. Hate the use of -tion, and lots of endings, as they are English (now U.K.) universities, since of the past, now including the U.S.A., insists. Grammarians are to study the language, but, most insist they know absolutes. ha ha ha .]

  3. Affirmative action isn’t bad at college. It would be bad when it’s organized against working class whites – of probably an IQ of around 100 or lower.

  4. College seemed tough as fuck to me – even in the humanities. I mean, my first major was English and I got out of college with a C average. My 2nd major was math and I never finished but I got Bs in Calculus I and II. Anyway, I could have majored in Geography and probably got out with honors. My grades in those courses – always As!!
OK, with English, a big problem was papers and bad grammar – but this was before I became so tech-savvy. It was the late 90s.

  5. People bullshitting themselves into humanities degrees? I don’t see that happening – even at community colleges!! The professors are tough, the papers require perfect grammar. It’s very hard! Sad to say, though, no jobs in the humanities.
