Obsession with and Rage Against the Incompetent, Lazy, Irresponsible and Failed: A Normative Value of US White Culture

In this country, you forget to close a door and your typical American yells at you: “Hey, you forgot to shut the door idiot! Shut the door dammit!” You leave a door open in a Japanese house, and it is a different story altogether. The reaction above is normal, proper and acceptable behavior in US White culture. That’s what your typical jerky White American would say because in America you are supposed to act like an prick in situations like this. It means you are not tolerating lazy, slacker in incompetent people or something. Such people are bad for success in American ultra-capitalist society, and most White Americans are in a perpetual state of outrage over lazy, incompetent, ineffectual, irresponsible, stupid, foolish, slacker and basically immoral people when it comes to work and achievement. Since all White Americans believe that “anyone can be successful if you try” and “everyone can get rich,” it follows that anyone who has failed in any way in life or in particular is poor, low income or lacking in money deserves their fate because they failed since they are idiots, fools, slackers, freeriders, leeches, or lazy, incompetent, irresponsible people. It’s people like this who are preventing your average White American from making it big. If it weren’t for the slackers and layabouts, we Whites would all be rich, didn’t you know? Much of our idiot political culture is based on White outrage against these people. There is probably no culture on Earth where “hatred for the lazy” is as extreme as it is in US White culture. It is an integral part of US White culture, and you will never understand America and especially its politics until you figure this out. I know this because I have had this notion pounded into my head hundreds of thousands of times from just about every White person I ever met, including my own liberal mother and father, who would probably both be outraged if you suggested that they felt this way. All the friends I grew up with felt this way. All of their parents felt this way. Almost everyone in my parents’ generation (World War 2 generation) felt this way. I see White people writing about this every single day on the web countless times. I continue to meet White people who carry on like this in Meatspace, unfortunately even in the dating game, where White women like this are omnipresent. I toss any woman who carries on like this and absolutely refuse to date her. In fact, my dating profiles often say, “No Republican or conservative women! No exceptions! Every time I pick up a paper there is some article or politician basically bitching about the weak, incompetent, ineffectual and  lazy. And undeserving. This last is important because in the US, these people are thought to be undeserving. Undeserving of what? Most White Americans will tell you undeserving of life! “You don’t work, you don’t eat!” I cannot count how many US Whites have told me this. While it may have been true in caveman days, we are rather beyond that now, are we not? Or do you think we still live in caveman days? Is that your proposition? What an odd belief. While being a lazy leech means you are a rather lousy person, I hardly think it is deserving of the death penalty! When you say, “You don’t work, you don’t eat,” you are sentencing the lazy to death in effect! Do you realize that? Most murderers don’t even get the death penalty. Rapists and  torturers never do. Lazy people deserve the death penalty but torturers and rapists don’t? What?   Minority cultures are much more relaxed about this sort of thing for some reason, and they tend to feel that a given portion of the human race are lousy people of one sort or another (one Hispanic woman referred to them as “hustlers” and acted like their existence was simply a normal, typical part of quotidian existence), that they are as common as weeds, there is nothing you can do about it, and that these lousy humans are simply best avoided by a careful buyer of human relationships.

Nothing new here. Northern White Euro/American people are generally seen as cold, calculating, insensitive and selfish by othr groups.
There is also that “Melanin theory” by Black nationalists. Even when you don’t believe in that, it’s hard to ignore the evidence that “Brown” cultures are more humane and caring for disadvantaged groups, though not any less cruel. If you’re down on your luck in India, no one will give you so much as a helping hand. But yes, they will spare you plenty of kind words.

      1. In really White Northern parts of America “Tokenism” seems more common than coldness towards non-Whites.

        1. White tokenism has had existed almost for an eternity. Even the White folks, many of them, take their native faith seriously, at times.

  2. If someone wants to make just enough to meet life obligations, does that enrage the general public? A significant part of American popular culture glorifies living for the weekend. And companies need these types of people as well as those wanting to move up the ladder.
Choosing not to meet life obligations, and expecting others to do it for you, is another story.
Climate-related obligations appear to be reflected in cold-climate vs warm-climate cultures. Cold climate survival requires food… and robust shelter, and heat, and adequate clothing. Historically you’d eat a lot more to perform the physical work required to provide these extra things. If the work and/or food supply was seasonally-dependent, it required additional careful planning and preparation. There was little room for error and little time for small talk. Relaxation was a rare and prized luxury.
Obviously, populations that evolved in cold climates were the product of people capable of surviving it. Even today, it requires extra effort and planning to meets life’s obligations. Cars must be newer or well-maintained enough to start in cold temperatures, and if one breaks down in the cold your life could be in danger. Cars wear more quickly in salt and cold, increasing costs. Heating a home can be $200/month. Infrastructure and housing must be more expensively constructed to address cold-related issues. When it snows, many people need to get up in the cold darkness to shovel just so they can get to their actual job – and everyone still is expected to arrive on time. That is not expected in South Carolina. In warm climates outside the US, a cardboard box and a dirt road can suffice (and I have met people apparently happily living this way). No worries.
Especially in cold climates, family ties were necessary in the days before unemployment, welfare or Medicare/Medicaid. Working still meant no insurance or social security. One bad crop or illness, and your family could starve or freeze to death without family assistance. Being a lone wolf or lazy person meant risking your life, and presented a terrifying prospect in old age. Many family safety nets are now available through the government. But someone else is still providing them. By working.
I know a number of Mexican people who have adapted well to the “cold-climate culture” in the US. It would appear that their largely family-oriented nature and Catholic background helps provide a sense of fortitude, consistent with “cold-climate culture” values. And anyone who decides to relocate has some drive to begin with.
I have the most wonderful Brazillian friend who wanted to live anywhere in the US. A successful executive-level professional. She lasted one winter in Milwaukee. I think she is still traumatized by the memory of it. She lives in Texas now. Not a lot of Brazilians in cold climates, no matter how driven. Their culture is more sensual and not religious. Below zero is not very sensuous. LOL.

    1. Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory is more accurate. Northern Euro Whites (Brits, Scandinavians, Germans) and their descendants such as Americans, Australians and Canadians are individualistic which makes them cold, calculating and emotionally distant. Some are borderline psychopathic and won’t be exposed until it’s too late, as in the case of Donald Trump.
There’s nothing wrong in being individualistic. That is what leads to social change, innovation, entrepreneurship and material success. Collectivistic societies, as per Hofstede’s theory, tend to be more religious, superstitious and conformist to prevailing norms.
Northern Indians (from Himachal Pradesh), Afghans and Central Asians (I have been to Uzbekistan) living in extremely cold climates are amongst the most hospitable people on earth because of their collectivistic societies. Strangers feel immediately welcome in their surroundings. Many homes in Himachal Pradesh don’t even have central heating because they can’t afford it. They stay warm the old-fashioned way, by gathering near a fireplace.
I haven’t been to Russia (one of the coldest places on Earth) but I have met plenty of Russians. They are warm-hearted, convivial and friendly to strangers to a fault.
As Robert said, Americans will turn out to be the rudest people if you find yourself blocking their way, along with other Northern Euros, especially Brits, Dutch, Germans and Australians. There is ZERO TOLERANCE for dawdlers and time wasters.

      1. Thank you SHI. Out in the deep end here as you can obviously tell. I look forward to reading what you referenced.
Agreed Russians are largely warm people. Though perhaps not quite relaxed or lazy. Go to a bar with Russians and expected smashed glass at some point. It’s hard to picture a Russian enjoying Mississippi.
Upper midwesterners, too, are warm. Strangers are greeted with a smile. Routine greetings – mailman, delivery person – are met with an exchange of genuine pleasantry, including between men and in urban areas. The conversation might not be as long as in the South, as some people don’t like to appear to pry, but it will be just as sincere. There is a similarly-English tendency to discuss the weather with strangers. If you are sick or elderly, your neighbor will shovel your driveway. The door will be held open by the person in front of you, which you will acknowledge gratefully. You will never cut off someone trying to merge from an on-ramp.
But yes, if you are able-bodied… and choose not to account for the food, shelter and heat you use, we have a problem, though we will have trouble expressing that to your face. We won’t starve you, but we won’t shovel your driveway.

        1. Southern people think initiating a long conversation is friendly, where a northerner would feel they are imposing on the other person’s time.
My college roommate was from Georgia. Soooo nice, a real joy to be around. But it took an extra half hour to get anywhere because we couldn’t leave the building without talking to at least three people. Our solution…we started leaving a half hour earlier…she still got to talk and I felt like we were not offending people waiting for us.

      2. I’m not familiar with those cold climate locations. Looking at a map, they are not in cold latitudes. Why are they cold? Altitude? No extended sunlight deprivation.

        1. Definitely altitude. But a large part of Russia has biting cold due to the latitudes. Very few places in India etc. really get to know frigid cold despite the high altitudes.
Leh and Ladakh is quite cold.
One will hardly find the typical Indians inhabiting such places.

      3. “As Robert said, Americans will turn out to be the rudest people if you find yourself blocking their way, along with other Northern Euros, especially Brits, Dutch, Germans and Australians. There is ZERO TOLERANCE for dawdlers and time wasters.”
Brits are actually far more closer to the Indians than to the Americans and the Australians in terms of sophistication and moderation. They take it easy, most of the times. Of course, they do not suffer fools. However, they do find the Yankees and the Aussies a little too loud and too stupid, for their liking.
Germans and Dutch are very direct but mostly distant and aloof. It is pretty difficult to charm one’s way through them. Only performance impresses them. Americans are much warmer.

  3. However, my perception says that the Russians are not even remotely as emotionally flamboyant as the Americans. They seem to be so aloof. They never smile in public. To them, smiling is akin to laughing. Russians seem to take almost an eternity to warm up to the strangers. Of course, the Russians never fleece the foreigners.
Of course, the Russians could be very helpful to the strangers in distress.
Of course, the Russian tourists could be a lot different.
Of course, I could be wrong.
Americans are a lot louder and infinite times more chatty, without being overly friendly.

      1. Russians are quite cold and aloof, and I do know pretty well that they are more often than not drunk because Russia is awfully cold.
Russian girls are, of course, so very thin and so very girly but even they , too, tend to be a bit aloof . Ask those who have been tricked by the mail order bride matrimonial services.
Of course, Russian girls seem to have a thing for the foreign grooms. Even the gentle brown bastards manage to find brides in Russia.
Of course, the very plain and ordinary American girls act like beauty queens, especially if you are neither the Alpha type nor the nerdy type.

  4. Here is a question, cultural experts. Can someone please provide a cultural analysis of New Yorkers?
I cringe at the recollection of my few encounters with them. They would be more condescending, except that it would require them to waste time actually acknowleding you. So naively arrogant. At times downright rude – cutting off people, cutting off cars… their own city filled with litter and pointlessly honking horns. And they find those things points of pride. I once had to literally apologize for the behavior of one of them after a group conversation with mutual acquaintances. How do these people not get their asses kicked? Oh wait, they do, and they love to talk about it too. But it’s probably by other pansy New Yorkers. Maybe that’s the problem. The good news is they largely self-quarantine in their city. I’m sure if any New Yorkers are reading this we’ll get their feedback. LOL.

    1. They must be pretty Jewish by their very disposition. New York is so full of Jews and it is so very expensive.
Of course, they must be pretty liberal and deeply fond of diversity and quite in awe of the multi-cultural societies.

      1. I believe you are correct. I have a Jewish friend who knows the Emmanuels. They are in Chicago but the story still fits. Their father was my friend’s pediatrician and he said that the kid patients were terrified of him. He said that the Emmanuels were of a category of Jewish people who were basically militant. Does that sound right? They do stints in/assisting the Jewish military… they basically ascribe any hostile behavior as being justified in the name of preserving their existence. And apparently any obnoxious behavior.

        1. I do believe that Jews are either super humans or Devils incarnate but any society which has had been persecuted for almost an eternity is somewhat justified in being a bit obsessed with safeguarding their very existence.
As a matter of fact, the Jews reject violence and aggression, in totality.
I find the Jews to be a bit too sly, sophisticated, materialistic and arrogant for my liking. Besides, they are the only ones, besides the Hindus, who reject Jesus, in totality.

      2. NY women can be real uppity nose in the air types. They’re not all bad but when I hear that NY accent I brace myself for the worst.

    2. The natives of almost all the cosmopolitan cities show the same snobbishness and the same indifference to the country bumpkins etc. etc., almost everywhere.
However, such natives deeply respect your personal space, and, do not really hold grudges. They tend to forgive and forget, too easily. Folks from other places are different.

  5. ….Southern people think initiating a long conversation is friendly, where a northerner would feel they are imposing on the other person’s time….
Southern people are very direct. Texas is famous for it’s cowboys while Georgia is pretty infamous for it’s hillbillies.
People in the South tend to be a lot more proud of their White heritage and quite conscious of the White privilege.
Mid- Westerners are definitely nicer. In fact, Wisconsin is full of Americans who take the Christian faith too seriously.
America is definitely the land of diversity in terms of local cultures. One tends to come across a bit of everything.

  6. I’m reminded of my Grandpas brother telling my Uncle he should’ve joined the military and made something of himself. It seems like a generational issue, my Uncle the hippy sharply contrasting with the old military man.

    1. Military men too find the going pretty tough in the capitalist era, these days.
Hippy s can, as a matter of fact, pull it off if they are blessed to be born in truly developed and diversified economies.

  7. Always is the argument from capitalists, when told they want people to work but won’t provide jobs, is that the workforce sucks, and they can’t do the job.
Anyway, another problem is a good workforce exists, but they only want to pay peanuts – even less than minimum wage, usually for freelance work where they can get away with it.

  8. Alt-right, alt-left always blaming Jews – when it’s gentile companies and also cheap-ass individuals running small businesses who won’t pay employees a good wage. At least for the small businesses, if they cannot employees, then they have no business – starting a business.
