California has one of the most advanced and diverse economies in the world. It is hardly just Silicon Valley and Hollywood. Read the article I posted.
Screw the “booming economy.” It sure ain’t booming in a lot of this state, that’s for sure. And the state’s economy was going great all through the 1950’s and 1960’s and even 1970’s for that matter.
Everything’s not all down to “the economy” anyway. That’s neoliberal talk. Let me give you an example. In a 15 year period in the 1950’s and 1960’s, the Guatemalan economy grew by 5% per year. During that period, the poverty rate went from 87% to 93%. After all that growth, the poverty rate went up even more, and 90% of the people were not getting jack from the “booming economy.” This is sort of what is going on in California right now except on a much milder scale.
I am wondering if the commenter lived in this state in the 1950’s, 1960’s or 1970’s? If not, then he does not know what this place used to look like.
I would say it wasn’t worth it. Yes, we have a decent economy for some, but we used to have a good economy for most average folks. We have the second highest poverty rate in the US above only Mississippi if you figure in housing costs. Housing is not affordable. Even rents are not affordable. College used to be almost free in this state. Now it will cost $50-100,000 just to go to college. There’s serious overcrowding everywhere. There are ghettos, barrios and other assorted shitholes along with lots of poverty and gangs everywhere you turn around. None of this was going on before.
All the negatives were not worth it for a good economy that doesn’t even benefit most folks anyway. And anyway we had a great economy before. Now we still have a good economy, but only for a few instead of a lot, and we have a ton of new problems to boot.
Mass immigration has been a gigantic negative for California.
The things establishment economists usually concern themselves with are of little concern to most of us. The rises and falls of the stock market are largely illusory, especially now, with all the play money out there looking for a home. I don’t see them writing about wages and rents.

Thank you! Unlike neoliberals, I believe in the radical notion that nations are more than giant markets. Social harmony, cooperation, culture, leisure time, lifestyle, and other factors are just as important – in many ways more so.

Well said.
I honestly don’t understand how anyone can seriously believe that California is a better place today than it was back in its whiter days.
And it’s not just California as a whole; the Bay Area in particular has enjoyed tremendous “growth” – all of which has been accompanied by deteriorating living standards.
Take SF, for example. The city has experienced a tremendous techie influx, with rising tax revenue and productivity to show for it. But has SF’s tech boom been good for most of the city’s population? I’d say the answer is a resounding no.
Housing and rents are unaffordable for most regular people, parking is a bitch, there’s far greater traffic around SF – and most of the Bay – than there used to be, people are less friendly, etc.
There are more important things in life than “growth.”
Let’s face it as California goes so goes the nation. The US is done. Over with. I doubt anyone would have the balls to ruthlessly do what needs to be done. Here’s one way to turn it around without parachuting the Blacks and Jews into the Congo.
Deport the Jews.
Bring back public housing. There’s a group in China that can build a 30 story building in 15 days or less (Broad Group). The build all the floors, walls and ceilings in a factory then ship it to the site and throw up the walls. Build a lot of these in areas where crime is contained and they can be watched.
Freedom of association. You should be able to ban people you don’t want to be around you. White people should have areas they can retire to without constant diversity. Cancel all laws against this principle. Troublesome people will have to behave better or people will just stop letting them in.
You go on welfare you go on birth control and so do your kids.
Deport all the illegal aliens.
When you come to this country you’re not supposed to be on welfare or any assistance. If you have done so since you became a citizen then you should lose your citizenship and be deported. This includes the low interest diversity loans the Pakistanis and Indians are using to buy up all the Quick Marts type places and hotels. Deport them.
Get rid of all affirmative action except for Blacks born in the US before 1965 or so. Put a time limit on it. Maybe another generation or two then it goes away.
Bring back literacy test. If you can’t pass a 8th grade test on The Federalist or anti-Federalist papers then you don’t need to be voting on my future or anyone else’s.
All following immigration should be from Europe only til we get back to the balance of 1965.
Pass a law that if you commit a crime with a gun you get the death penalty. Immediately. This won’t stop all killings as they will turn to knives, clubs and skateboards but it would put a serious dent in them. It would lower the shootings of Blacks between each other and Cops shooting Blacks because they would be less afraid.
And my absolute favorite. All the people in jail should be used as permaculture labor in the Western US. Those that don’t work will be chained to a rock, receive water and fed sprouted wheat or some such nonsense that is healthy but taste awful. Maybe lots and lots of soybeans because they have a huge amount of estrogen in them. All prisoners will be segregated by race and type of crime. They will do the work shown in the below video by hand. As crops grow they will begin to self sustain themselves with food just like the Southern prison farms used to.

Look at what this guy did in 8 years. Amazing. I think it would take longer because you wouldn’t want to use irrigation. For water you make water wells out of piles of rocks. Designed right the more you add these wells over time the area where they are located retains more and more water making the wells even better.
Permaculture is very interesting to me. It uses biological feedback to really ramp up growth. I bought a long, long time ago one, I think, of the first books on permaculture, “Permaculture: A Designers’ Manual”
by Bill Mollison. Still got it.
I’m getting off track but I do that. Here’s another interesting growing technology. This guy grows a forest that takes 100 years in about ten years. Way cool.

One more. This guy’s another super interesting guy. He builds seed balls. Mostly clay mixed with a little top soil and seeds. The clay dries hard as a rock and you broadcast them in seriously depleted soils. The clay protects the seed from being eaten by animals, birds and insects. When it rains it melts the clay and makes a little mound like a tiny flower pot. The seed uses the nutrients in the clay and soil mix to get a better start. People also use this method in cities to broadcast flowers and food plants in guerrilla city gardens in the byways and unused dirt areas. I’ve made these and they work great.

They were numbered but it took away my numbers for some reason. Cry, cry.
It looks a ghetto, due to the third worlder, especially the hindu and telugu immigrants. They don’t have any skills, but sit in front of computer staring at monitor, and shouting WE ARE GREAT.
