Trump Pounds Away at Clinton on Trade Deals

Here, here, and here. Threatens to tear up NAFTA, pull out of the TPP, slam 3 I must say that I strongly support everyone one of those things! Clinton has been silent in response, as she does not talk much about trade these days, although her campaign manager said the other day that she remains opposed to the TPP. Nevertheless, the Hillary appointees on the Democratic Party Platform Committee for the coming convention have watered down just about everything good in the platform. Particularly galling was the Clinton appointees’ refusal to take a stand on the TPP. The original platform said that the party opposed the TPP, but the Clintonites killed that and changed it to say that the Democratic Party holds a diversity of views on the subject. They did this, they said, so as not to undermine Obama’s push to pass the trade deal, which he will probably do in the lame duck session when no one has to worry about getting re-elected. So, let’s see, Clinton opposes the TPP, except her delegates said we need to support Obama’s efforts to pass the TPP! What?! Clinton just doesn’t get it. Progressives are outraged by this language, saying that they are suspicious that Hillary is lying about the TPP like she does about so many things. They say she opposes it to win the election and then will pass it once she gets in. The Left wing of the party trusts Hillary not one bit, and I trust the woman about as far as I could throw her, which is not very far. I am absolutely opposed to Trump and feel he must be defeated at all costs, but I hope he pounds away at Clinton on this trade issue relentlessly. Maybe he will knock some sense into her, who knows? A major problem though is that in pushing this anti-trade agenda, Trump is alienating the entire corporate sector of the party, and the GOP is a corporate party if nothing else. Also free trade has been a party mainstay for decades now. How can Trump oppose the very corporations that are the backbone of the party? How can he oppose what is ideologically pounded into stone in the party? This is what people mean when they say Trump is tearing the party apart, which is something delightful to see.

  1. A lot of people might not want to vote for Trump because he might take away their government benefits. Even if these people got jobs in return, they don’t think the trade-off is worth it.
For instance, the Ron Paul libertarian world is a nightmere in the eyes of many of the poor. The only people who seem to like Ron Paul are middle class people who never use government services anyway.

    1. OK Trump returns jobs fine, but in return he is libel to take away every form of welfare or government aid imaginable except maybe the GI bill.

      1. The books he wrote with real estate guru Robert Kiyosaki seem to point to the fact he’s a hardcore libertarian with the exception of being a little less isolationist than Ron Paul.

        1. Yeah, but Trump does have the power to start war without approval from anyone. That’s the biggest threat.

        2. they’ll try to go back to the old days where the President has to have congressional permission to even place troops anywhere.
          They’ll be shitting bricks November8, 2016- January20, 2017….
the “establishment” will either drastically try to cut Presidential power over that time, or commit Hari Kari en masse

        1. he could basically, in his budget, get those things not funded, but that does have to congress.
Otherwise, it would have to repealed by congress.
          Killery ftw…………….

    ……….
As a Chinese, 35% tariffs on Chinese products will sure disrupt Chinese export economy but I’m sure certain sectors of Chinese industry will welcome that because china will counter with 35% tariffs on certain American products, among them are Chinese micro-electrons/CPU, aircraft manufacturers which are segments of Chinese R&D poising to make major breakthrough, like it or not:

China will (is developing) develop their own aircraft and CPU industry regardless of US tariffs or not – a 35% tariff or higher will only mildly speed things up. What’s stunning about China is their massive over capacity in certain industries – currently China has the ability to produce as much concrete in 3 years as the US produced in 100 years in the 20th century.
But don’t worry about tariffs being on place on Chinese goods, the US elites hate the American working class and benefit from cheap labor and poor regulations in China.

It’s possible that TPP could be killed but I’d say that getting rid of NAFTA even under Trump (I place the odds of a President Trump below 5%) wouldn’t happen. Too many multinationals have power in this country – they would go directly to Republican and Democratic representatives and kill any efforts to get rid of NAFTA.
The biggest loss of US jobs to overseas labor has been China’s admission into the WTO in 2001 – with US factories wholesale closing up in places like Indiana, Ohio, etc and opening in China. It’s simply labor arbitrage and has nothing to do with free trade. (Unlike the problems US industry suffered from Japanese and German exports in the 70s and 80s. They had their own companies, designers, and unique products and for the most part competed with the US on an even footing..)
Although China most assuredly has manipulated it’s currency lower in the past there’s some evidence that they are currently trying to prop it up against the dollar. There has been a tremendous amount of capital flight out of China in the past 3 years and some of the money is being used to buy Real Estate in California, Vancouver B.C. and other places in North America.
