My information is outdated, but I figure it is probably still correct. You have to get them in the right order too. Your answers have to look like this: 1. First country 2. Second country 3. Third country 4. Fourth country If you think this website is valuable to you, please consider a contribution to support the continuation of the site.

Perfect! How did you know? And why is Spain, one of the main drivers of European wealth, now one of the PIGS loser states? I do not get it.
Your hint helped out a lot.
too much reliance there on real estate and tourism, and too much money wasting on senseless or overdimensioned infrastructure/agricultural projects! Additionally, they thought the EU is a cash cow that always will help out…
1. Germany
2. France
3 UK
4. Italy
5. Spain
Italy has higher GDP (nominal), GDP (PPP), GDP (nominal) per capita and GDP (PPP) per capita than Spain!
Just looked up PIGS and I think its a pretty loose thing, considering there are three variations: PIGS (Italy), PIIGS (Italy and Ireland) or PIIGGS (Greece and Great Britain.).
Anyway, look at the unemployment rate of Spain:
Unemployment rate (%):
Germany: 5.1
France: 10.4
UK: 6.2
Spain: 25.6
Italy: 13
Greece: 27.5
Portugal: 15.3
Ireland: 11.7
My figures were old. Are those the latest figures, Steve? You mean Italy has now surpassed Spain for Number 4?
Take a look at this:

Ok I messed up. My original Number 4 was Italy, not Spain. I am reading so many books at once now that I got confused. Look down on that chart to 1993 or so. Germany, France and Italy all beating the UK.
Wow.
Notice how Spain’s economy started growing after Franco’s death in 1975. It was in the 80s and 90s that British and Germans started going on ‘package holidays’ to Spain en masse.
Yeah I know. I’m 30 so I was a child in 80’s and early 90’s and I remember the city being quite scruffy then. There’s been a hell of a lot of redevelopment and improvement in Liverpool since then. Massive amount in Manchester too.
*30 this year, not yet.
I had Germany 1st, the UK 2nd, Belgium 3rd, and France 4th. Never in a billion, trillion years would I have guessed Spain, no matter how big the language is. I’m surprised Belgium isn’t in there somewhere. While it is a low key country, it seems to be a hub of activity.
Spain isn’t Number 4. Italy is. I screwed up on that one. And France has been beating the UK for a while now, although they tend to trade back and forth for Number 2.
1. ENGLAND
2. BRITAIN
3. UNITED KINGDOM
4. FAROE ISLANDS
