Bigfoot News July 12, 2012

Blockbuster news! We have it on good authority that the Dr. Melba Ketchum study has not only proven that Bigfoots exist, but that they are an existing relict hominid. But that’s not the big news; you already knew that. So what’s the big news? A source inside the Ketchum camp has informed me that the Ketchum study folks not only have proven that these hominids exist, but they have identified the exact hominid that the Bigfooots are! “They know which one it is,” is how it was related to me. That means, apparently, that the Bigfoots are a known hominid, known from the fossil or possibly DNA record. It’s a hominid that is already known and exists in the scientific record. Not only that, but this known hominid has managed somehow to survive to the present day! So a known relict hominid, well known to science, never went extinct and instead survives to this very day. I asked the source which identified hominid the Bigfoots are, and the source either would not or was not able to tell me. There are parts of this that I do not understand. Do they mean that they have identified the hominid on the nuclear side? Because on the MtDNA side, the Bigfoots are 10 Are there known relict hominids which are hybrids of human on one side and an unknown relict hominid on the other? I don’t know, and so much does not make sense about this information. Could it be Neandertal? Maybe, but Neandertal was not human on the MtDNA side, and I believe Richard Stubstad said that Neandertals were ruled out on the nuclear side. Could it be Denisovan? Possibly, but I do not believe that the Denisovans were human on the MtDNA side either. Could it be the Red Deer Cave People recently found in China? Possibly, but I believe that we lack DNA for these relict hominids. However, they do have a backwards-sloping forehead, and this is what true Bigfoots have and most hoaxes get wrong. It can’t be Flores Man – they are far too small. What about Heidelbergensis? This has always been my favorite for the Bigfoots. However, I believe we have no Heidelbergensis DNA. Nor do we have DNA from various forms of Erectus and whatnot. So how is it that they think they know which hominid it is? My source told me that they may know if they have an actual Bigfoot specimen, which he suspects they do. The source thinks that the Ketchum study retained a full Bigfoot specimen from the Sierra Kills. In that case, they could compare say the skull from the Kills with existent skulls of say, Heidelbergensis. David Claerr has written many fascinating pieces on this topic. In one of his articles, he implied that he had seen Bigfoot skeletons either in museums or in private collections. I asked him to elaborate, but he was not able to do so due to agreements with his sources. The Ketchum camp really, really does not want this information getting out now, so I have been told. But this information comes from a new source inside the Ketchum camp who is best described as “disgruntled” with the way things are going. I wish I could tell you more about this, but this is apparently a deep secret among the study folks, and it was hard enough to come up with this tidbit. But we will see if any elaborating information comes out in the future due to this revelation. Ketchum received two Bigfoot steak samples, one from the baby and one from the adult male. We reported this a while back, but no one believed us so we will repeat it as I just heard it one more time. When the initial samples were sent in from the Sierra Kills, there were two samples. One sample was reportedly from the baby and one was from the adult. How do we know this? Because Ketchum told a close associate (who we cannot name) that that is what she received. She also said that one had hair resembling the color of the baby’s hair, and the second had hair resembling the adult. Subsequently, all talk of the second sample vanished, and now it apparently doesn’t exist. All reports now only discuss “the sample,” which is from the male. So what about the second sample she received? What happened to it? My source told me they think it’s been buried. The source thinks the entire body of the baby was retained initially, and it is presently with Wally Hersom, though that is just speculation. The baby is theorized as being secreted away, apparently, all in an effort to keep Justin Smeja, the shooter, out of jail. The source also told me that they thought that Ketchum’s Hollywood publicist and attorneys told her that anything relating to the baby Bigfoot is “kryptonite,” and that it has to be buried. It’s all pretty wild stuff, and I’m not sure how true it is. But we do know that Ketchum said she received two samples, not one, and that she described them to a colleague as coming from two different animals. What happened after that? Who knows? It’s all so mysterious. Additional hints that Smeja’s body recovery story may not be correct. A friend of mine listened to Smeja’s interview on the radio a while back, and he said the Smeja sounded quite honest up until the part about the body recovery. At that point, he felt Smeja did not sound fully honest anymore due to his voice tone and sentence structure and whatnot. There are other clues. On Bigfoot Forums, “the general” was asked why he shot the baby Bigfoot in the throat. He responded testily that he didn’t want to damage the head. The implication was that he wanted the head for evidence, and this is why he shot the baby. Smeja’s driver has already told us that Justin shot the baby for evidence. In addition, on Bigfoot Forums, Justin described exactly where the bullet entered and left the body of the adult Bigfoot. He said it entered 3 inches below the nipple and exited at a precise point in the opposite lung. My source said there is no way he could determine that at 80 yards, and that he must have inspected the body after he shot it. On the radio show referenced earlier, Justin was asked whether he was sure the adult was dead. He answered twice, emphatically, that the adult was dead. The second time was in response to a question, “Are you sure it’s dead?” “I’m sure it’s dead,” Justin answered with finality. My source told me that that no hunter ever says he is sure he killed an animal unless he inspects to body to make sure it is dead. Update on the Erickson Project. We don’t have much, but a source close to the Erickson Project said that the word from Adrian Erickson on the release of his film is “soon.” My understanding is that the paper and the movie are still to be released in tandem. Sorry we don’t have any more than this. Publication date for Ketchum’s paper. This depends on what the window is between acceptance of a paper and the publication of that paper. Does anyone know what that window is? If you can figure out what the window is, you can get a time frame of a possible early to late publishing date. I would also like to know if papers are ever accepted for publication (pass peer review) but are then killed for one reason or another. If this ever happens, then maybe there’s a slight chance it will not publish at this venue. As for me, of course I have no date at all. Reason for all the secrecy in the Ketchum camp? An observer has hypothesized that all of the secrecy is not necessary in order to not jeopardize the paper; instead, it originates with the needs of Ketchum herself, who has some mysterious need or desire for all this privacy. I asked a source why she was so hyper-secret if it’s not needed for the integrity or existence of the paper, and the source said, “She wants to be next Jane Goodall or Diane Fossey. She wants to run around in the woods and study these creatures. She wants to be to Sasquatch what Fossey and Goodall are to chimps and gorillas. And she thinks that all of the leaks somehow get in the way of all of that.” MK Davis breaks down Paul Freeman’s great Bigfoot video. The famous Freeman video from 1994 is widely considered to be authentic. Unfortunately, it has very poor resolution. MK Davis, whatever his other faults, is excellent at video work. He has enhanced a scene from the end of the video that some said showed the Bigfoot picking up a baby and walking away with it. I was never able to make out that aspect of the video, so I could never comment on it. But in MK Davis’ great enhancement, it looks very much like the Bigfoot in the video does pick up a baby Bigfoot at the end and put it in its arms. We have seen a number of videos where adult Bigfoots pick up babies and go away with them. The most famous is the Memorial Day footage. Another one is the Beast of Gum Hill video, where the Bigfoot crosses a creek in front of the couple riding ATV’s in a creek and picks up a baby on the other side. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jfalypfvpnk] Strange photo of possible Bigfoot in the Basque country. Here is a strange new photo from the Basque Country. There have long been reports of Bigfoot type things (not sure exactly what type – maybe Almas?) roaming these mountains. I was surprised at how spectacular, stark and rugged the Basque mountains are. I don’t what the thing in this video is – to me, it looks sort of like a man. Doesn’t seem to be shaped like a Bigfoot. On the other hand, maybe Almas are different.

Photo from the Crypto Crew.
Back story from the blog where it appeared:

The witness, Joxan (Basque name), and his 14 year old daughter took advantage of a day off for an excursion through the area. After passing the peak of Bianditz, they took the path of the three cromlechs going to Errenga (Errenga and Bianditz are peaks in the Basque Country). At that moment, they heard a loud whistles, and about 200 meters away, they see something moving Penas-Errenga that catches their eye. At first they thought it was a dog, a person, a monkey or a bear, despite bears having disappeared from the area a century ago. Witnesses see a man covered with hair, he was wearing “a kind of leather poncho” and moves at a quick run up the mountain, while emitting loud whistles. These sounds, long sustained, seemed to be answered from a nearby peak and also from the surrounding woods.

Reading the blog post in Spanish, subsequent investigation is questioning the reality of this photo and investigators are wondering if it is a manipulated image of some sort.

  1. BTW, NOBODY knows what the nuclear DNA of Neanderthals, Denisovans, or any of the rest of them was like. The nuclear DNA is not preserved in fossils, only the mitochondrial DNA is. Therefore it is nonsense to talk about comparing nuclear DNAs of these types. And the Denisovan DNA is only at one end of a range in genetic variations most distant from the European Neanderthals, the DNA of other Neanderthal types from geographic regions in between are less different, varying in accordance with the distance to one or the other. And there is no especial reason to think the Red Deer People are anything other than one variation of early-modern Out-of-Africa homo sapiens. The news releases exaggerate all of these points when there are really only minor differences.

    1. This is apparently not correct. Numerous web links, including Wikipedia, claim that the nuclear DNA of both Denisova and Neandertal not only existed but has been sequenced.

      1. The Max Plank Institute sequenced the Nuclear DNA of I think 3 Neandertals in the study that is now famous for telling us that all non-Africans have inherited from 1 to 4% of their DNA from Neandertals.

        1. http://digg.com/newsbar/Science/science_aaas_background_the_neandertal_genome
Dale this seems rather current and official….I read the genetic research is 8x/yr each year…whatever that mean ..in output? in importance? in actual contributions to Genbank? LOL I don’t recall, but I know it’s moving fast. I found a reason for my FB page…just to collect some of these links..I need to add some older ones, like the genographic projects and..well it goes on and on….

  2. Awesome news Robert! Again you are our best source for cutting edge info. Thank you You are the bestest…Keep it up!

  3. Nice one Robert, exciting news. From the little I’ve read, I agree Heidelbergensis seems most likely. Thanks. Tim, U.K.

  4. This is the most amazing news you have had yet!!! Thank you so much for keeping up with this over the last year plus, even when time were slow. I look forward for all of the updates to come.

  5. Reminds me of the Silbo Gomro language, you know the whistled dialect of Spanish that is used to communicate across the mountains and valleys in the canaries.

  6. I could never quite reconcile why Justin didn’t take the baby bigfoot with him. I always felt that he did. Looks like y’all and other feel the same way.
Ah well , if he does have ……..
    small leap for man

  7. Bob, you are the best investigative journalist I know of, I hope that you either are or will make a living off of it. Your reports and your op-eds are, to me, of great value. Thanks, seriously.

  8. Re. Ketchum’s Bigfoot Steaks, I heard about the first of these in November 2010, with a verbal description indicating it was from an adult. If she eventually ended up with two samples, I was never told that.
I personally believe that Smeja et.al. have the entire body of the juvenile in a freezer somewhere–assuming that part of the shooting story is true. They claimed it weighed 80 lbs, for example. Therefore it was probably weighed.
The only indication I know about that Neanderthal was excluded was the lack of a match with a single MC1R polymorphism from GenBank’s nuclear DNA database.
My best guess now is a cross-breed (not a hybrid) between a Homo sapiens sapiens female(s) and a Neanderthal male(s). It has already been determined that these two hominid lineages cross-bred in the past, leaving Neanderthal genetics to the tune of 2-4% in most of the world’s current Homo sapiens sapiens population groups,
    Richard

    1. Hi Rchard-
Not to get off topic here, but I have my own hypothesis about the Neanderthal/Sapiens hybridization. My opinion is that these hybrids arose from sapiens male/neanerthal female pairings.
Here’s my resoning: when tribal groups come into aggressive contact typically the victor takes slave labor from the defeated population. In this case neanderthal males would have been too strong and aggressive to control, however the females would likely have a body strength closer to that of a sapiens male. They would have killed off the males and taken the females as slave labor since they could do the work of a sapiens male. One thing leads to another and you get the idea.
I think that if a sapiens female was impregnated by a neanderthal male, a sapiens tribe probably would not keep the child and if the child was reared in the neanderthal society it would have been a genetic dead end.
      Anyway, just my speculation.

  9. These developments are interesting to say the least and even if only 50% accurate are still mind-blowing.
But I don’t think the Boss of the Mountains will be either a Neanderthal or Erectus related species since both of those used tools and fire and to my knowledge the sasquatch does not. My guess is it’s going to be something further back like an Australopithecine that has grown in size to adapt to hunting larger game like deer and elk.

  10. But of hundreds of thousands of years a smaller species could evolve into a larger one to adapt to a different niche — sort of in the same way Flores man got smaller in response to evolving on an island.
What I’m getting at is it’s possible that the species we know from the fossil record is different in size to what it has become today so we may not have to look for a huge hominin from the fossil record or rely on hybiridization to account for it. It could just be a simple case of adaptation.

  11. Awsome news Robert, well done, can’t wait for the release of the paper and hopefully Erickson’s video. So what is next for all you “Footers” ?? Can we expect an invasion of American and Canadian explores and biologists into the wilds of Australia in search of the Yowie ?, perhaps the Himilaya’s or Russia and the Yeti is the preferred destination ??

    1. Thank you jurrawarra. Not sure what’s next, honestly. I figure that the movie and the paper will stir up a wild firestorm of controversy, and we will be dealing with that for some time. I don’t think the video/paper will prove Bigfoot at all. It will just set off a firestorm that will make the PGF look tame.

      1. If they infact do have a body then I am hoping it is brought forward to substantiate the other evidence and once and for all put this to bed.
ps I emailed a question a few weeks ago regarding the Hamilton incident and have not had a response, is the subject to sensitive to answer ??

        1. Stumbled onto an article on a Canadian site which said that a group of people had headed off to tranquilize a Sasquatch (2009), things went wrong and only 1 of the 5 ( Dan Hamilton) made it home. Apparently the scene was horrific and authorities involved along with grieving family members have blocked the release of information.
The site owner responded to my question with ” it is real and the information will be released in about a year but not by him”.
I also read an article on the NABS site regarding a Hamilton family and an incident which involved severe vandalism around a lake and camping area. I had wondered if it was the same group and if you could shed any light on the subject. I would presume that if the incident had really happened then surely the public must be warned to prevent a similar tragedy from happening.
Information regarding this incident has been very vague and extremely difficult to track down.

        2. Look, everything Fraud Standing has ever said and done regarding Bigfoot is a lie, a fraud and a con. The man is basically a criminal and anything he says about Bigfoot should be immediately rejected barring further evidence.

  12. All this talk of cross breading possibilities brings to mind a tv program about the old soviet union in which Stalin in the 50’s was trying to cross breed modern women with apes to create “Monkey-Men Super Soldiers.” The program”s premise was comical at the time to me,but claimed to be valid info obtained from defectors. Now I am thinking it might be true and they were really using their version of BF. Thank you Robert for the info you provide on the subject of bigfoot. Can’t
say I care for your political commentary but look forward to your bigfoot posts as the come in. I hope you have plans to take your due
if and when all this is official and the study and the Erickson film come
out. Hopefully a book. Anyways, thank you

    1. Well I guess that explains why Soviets were dumb and stupid as well as having a system that was bound to fail; all they needed to do was import blacks from West Africa, Jamaica and the U.S and they could have had their women create “super athletic soldiers” who could play “ball”. So freaking dumb.

  13. Over at the BFEvidence site the are slammin RL for makin stuff up. But,
can someone explain to me why Justin Smeja and his wife now work for the Olympic Project? What does he have that they need? Maybe a BF body or two? He went from a construction worker to working with researchers the likes of Jeff Meldrum over night. From the looks of it to me you are on the right track buddy. Something smells a little freezer burnt to me!

          1. I’ve been to Paris TX, on a drive from Dallas and back. Only time I ever got 3 speeding tickets in one day.

      1. Hastily discarded suggestions, is why this research goes nowhere fast. I will reiterate my bet and then go all in, as I submit further proof as follows.
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMEo8qEfitI&feature=related
Cro-Magnon giants, then would be another name for the subject matter. I myself like “Cro-Magnon paranormlis giganticus”, since they are large paranormal people who currently exist all around us, but primarily inhabit the 4th dimension for their own safety. The 4th dimension was reassigned from “TIME” to be the nearby spacial dimension to man’s dimension that hides the paranormal people that otherwise could exist in man’s dimension. This reassignment occured at University of California at Berkeley in the spring of 1975, and was fully supported by Stephen Hawking after he spent the entire Fall term of 1974, clandestinely studying UC Berkeley’s library of Bigfoot captivity studies conducted by the only people that had the budget and the capability of containing them. Uncle Sam. “Time” was then decided to lump it together with “Space” and call it “Space-Time”, without any decent explanation. Please note that you will find Stephen Hawking’s name all over that little reclassification, but with no advertised mention as to the true reason why. Ask anybody who attended UC Berkeley in the fall term of 1974, and see if they don’t remember Stephen Hawking in his wheelchair, conducting hundreds of impromptu Bigfoot lectures on the sidewalks of that institution, while his biography apparently makes no mention of his presence there at that time, for his U.S. sabatical.
And here you thought Bigfoot was a discovery of the newest generations.

  14. Well, who knows now? Too many rumors, too long. And, still nothing of real import from those with the biggest claims.
I do plan on knowing eventually, the whole bloody truth, can’t imagine I am the only one so inclined.
Could any choice be more iffy than not reporting the DNA of the two Sierra Kills to the authorities and public promptly after analysis? Especially if one aspire to be a benevolent force for the Bigfoots.
This is the main reason I doubt Justin’s story; I can’t imagine anyone sitting on that knowledge for so long with so many rabid BF hunters out there and a desire to prevent another such event.
And with the possibility they are as closely related Neandertal? Makes no sense. Neither does removing a second sample ….that would be disastrous PR b/c the news would filter out, eventually… and one is left with the classic, “Which is it? Were you lying then or now?” It would impeach the her credibility on other issues…so, I am beginning to think someone is playing with you RL on the recent “leaks.” A real possibility given the already social connected groups in Bigfootery?
.duty, honor, all that….goes along way…..
p.s. Nice to hear from you Richard too, and tanks for the clarification on your knowledge of the one sample..

    1. The knowledge spans three mito samples (out of three) and three MC1R samples out of three. All six strange but fairly close to modern humans.
This makes me think that sasquatch is a relatively newly evolved hominid ( 1,000,000years)on the mito side.
The experts simply don’t believe this can happen, but OF COURSE it can–and does happen. The north American mule deer is an even more recent example of a mammal that evolved through cross breeding but 10,000 years ago.
      Richard

This makes me think that sasquatch is a relatively newly evolved hominid (~50,000 years); it hasn’t had time to evolve its own clearly unique mitochondrial DNA in isolation like Neanderthal (~600,000 years) or Denisovan (~1,000,000years)on the mito side.

  15. srry typos, I did finally get new glasses..so I see some improvement, even if you can’t!
BTW I found this youtube channel that is fantastic: ‘evolutiondocumentary” and the playlist is exceptional, all the major releases in the past decade from PBS, BBC, Ca, Nat’l Geo, and so on……what a treat…and no commercials….

  16. I s it possible to have fully modern human DNA but from a different pool than the “bottle-neck 75K ybp” of East Africa that all of us living on the planet are to have descended from?
So that prior to our “awakening” about 50K ybp (art, advanced stone work)…we were much more like all the contemporaneous hominids cognitively, or socially, and those pockets of modern humans either mingled or died.(from volcanic winter or such)…b/c clearly that 75K ybp bottleneck did not eliminate BFs….or Neandertals ..
so cross breeding not such an extreme idea.. clearly occurred with both Neandertal and Denisova…
and it would also fit easily with an advance migration here of BFs prior to modern humans…??

  17. i see, which raises question for me…we define fully modern human DNA as only that arising from this E. Africa source..the time of the bottle’neck 75K ypb? Do we have any H. sapiens DNA from prior? How old is the oldest h. sapiens DNA…humm…under 20K years or maybe 10k?
So, i suppose it is an open question that any fossil that meets H. sapien criteria but older than 75K years and located anywhere but E. Africa might not, or most probably doesn’t, (b/c lack of art etc), meet a modern H. sapiens DNA definition? is it possible mtDNA that meets our modern standards was in existence prior to the bottleneck and survived in the BF line only as well as E. Africa? LOL don’t worry…. every once in a while i think i shall catch up with all the latest genetics news…even as a lay person…it is a moving target and i trailing…need to get back to some the amazing genome websites…

    1. It’s not possible to extract DNA using current methods past 50,000 years or so.
Fully modern humans and their DNA goes back 180,000 YBP in Africa.
Bigfoots are definitely not fully modern humans!

      1. The oldest existing mito DNA today in the world are from haplotypes L1a1 and L1a2–from subsets of the Pygmy and San populations respectively in Southern Africa. Both trace back around 50,000 years, as Lindsay says.
One of the three apparent haplotypes for the sasquatch mito sequences was very close to L1a2–which is where I reached the conclusion that the oldest sasquatch mito is around 50,000 years old–and still evolving.
The question is: which hominin was the father’s lineage at the time? Clearly not San (Bushman) as they exist today.
        See http://www.ScienceAliveNews.com for complete coverage.
        Richard

        1. I noticed you had a photo of the Lovelock Cave skulls on your blog, and wondering if you aren’t the guy to call the museum and see if they will allow an extraction by Dr. Sykes, he has stated he prefers teeth, but can go into bone…and it’s free..until September…

          1. We had four teeth from two of these skulls, but that was when we were working with Ketchum. She has all four, and will not return these for fear of someone else testing them first. She wants all the credit, fame and wealth (if there is any to be had). I understand she hasn’t even begun testing relic samples yet.
Sykes wants only hair samples for now; not teeth (yet). We have furnished three hair samples for him to-date, but haven’t even heard back on these.
            Richard

        2. wow..that is news..and i guess sorry news if it is in a far off que!?
Sykes did say on C2C that he would accept bone/teeth and would even consider the Starchild (reluctantly it felt – Noory offered to pay)) But, seems there are more teeth and tissue still remaining with those..and others (not sure could be chased down as easily), someone owns it right? Is all of Larry’s toenail gone as well? Dang! Good luck on your hairs…iI am thinking of getting out there and trying….but it does seem a lot of samples are headed that way….? Trying to keep tabs..this is a big chance it seems, and quite a heated “race.”
          .

      2. Not being an anthropologist myself, neanderthal did not apparently have human mtDNA, which tends to limit the search between neanderthal and modern human’s, for a non modern human hominid with human mtDNA. Doesn’t it? Which by default, leaves only somebody in the Cro-Magnon family tree.

  18. Robert, your source that scrutinized Smeja’s remarks on where he hit the male BF and his adamant position that he knew it was dead is not correct. I’ve hunted successfully for 30 years (check out my hunting album on FB), have written a few articles for hunting magazines, and have taught Hunters’ Safety Courses in the counties close to my home. No conciencious hunter will take a shot unless he is absolutely sure it will kill the animal (mistakes do happen), and at 80 yards, even without a scope it should be easy to tell with great accuracy where you hit an animal and where the bullet would exit, if it is a complete pass through. 80 yards is very short range for rifle hunting most Western big game, where shots of 500+ yards are not uncommon (not on bears, but on mule deer, elk, and sheep). The determination of the exit wound is a matter of simple anatomy and the position of the animal. To an experienced hunter, even on unfamiliar game, all that happens in the few seconds that the shot placement is chosen. When aiming, you are not aiming at the surface, but are aiming through, where the bullet will pass through and destroy the most vital organs possible from your shot angle. That is how he really had to know where the exit hole would have been.

  19. I was just reading on another website that Derek Randles fired Justin Smeja from The Olympic Project because of the interview that he was just involved in. Smeja changed small portions of his story again and that pissed Randles off. Smeja is making The Olympic Project appear like a bunch of bafoons. If the Ketchum DNA project is relying heavily in anything from Smeja, I am prepared for the worst. I think Smeja is a complete idiot that is out for fame and money!

  20. Stubstad had reportedly funded the DNA analysis on several samples, including a purported bigfoot toenail, on behalf of Tom Biscardi, who hand-delivered the samples to Ketchum in 2009.
