On the Naderists

Nader says there is a not a dime’s worth of difference between the Republican and Democratic Parties, that they are both wholly owned corporate parties.

Well he’s right in a sense, but we liberals never I mean never vote Republican. I’d almost rather die than vote Republican, and I’ve been that way for most of my life. I’m a liberal! Hell, why would I vote Republican? Give it up.

There’s a reason for that. Dems are way more pro worker and pro working family than the Republicans. It’s not true at all that they both the same. That’s a bunch of crap, and it makes me mad to hear it.

Truth is, if the Dems were more pro worker = Left/liberal than they already are, they would simply lose, because the electorate is that reactionary. The Dems are just as conservative as they need to be to win. Still, I think they suck up to corporations too much, but apparently this is due to campaign contributions.

The Reps’ whole line is that the Dems are not pro-corporate enough, that they are anti-corporate. They have been beating Obama with that since he came in. The Teabaggers are simply a Brownshirt type army for the corporations, the rich and the upper middle class.

For being as anti-corporate as they have been under Obama, the Dems are going to lose 6-7 Senate seats and maybe 20 House seats. So it doesn’t pay to be pro-worker. The Electorate is wildly pro-corporate, pro-rich and pro-upper middle class, and they punish you if you try to help working families even just a bit.

  1. In other words, the situation is hopeless for the common man.

What is the point, when the working and middle classes in this country seem to so readily vote against their own interests?

    The hell with it.

    1. That’s why God invented booze. Because so much of life is futile bullshit. LOL. Don’t worry, be happy and have another drink while the Titanic goes down. Basic good philosophy for any human age. 😉

  2. From a living pseudo-Green: Democrats are a lot better. Certain things have been making me think more conservative lately, but I always catch myself and come back to sense. The anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-civil rights, anti-progress, anit-healthcare anti-environment, anti-global warming, anti-global participation, anti-secular, anti-world, anti-black, anti-white, anti-education, anti-art, anti-science, anti-thought, anti-pretty-much-anything-that-leads to the improvement of man besides the wealth of the upper-class ideology of the republicans, along with their fretful, pathetic, obnoxious, ludicrous, embarrassing showmen like Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Bill O’Reilly, George Bush, and so forth, irk me to the point of exhaustion. They want us to go back to the middle ages! and yet they talk about the benefits of our civilization, the very things they dislike that made it great—liberalism, tolerance and progress.

I don’t really get it. Libertarianism is growing like wild fire among the youth. But they’re really just the new republicans. It makes some sense to slash the policies that make no sense in the modern liberal democracy, like anti-abortion, but libertarians need to realize this isn’t little small town, farmer-friendly, responsible-neighbor, or even wild west world now, it’s globalism, and it isn’t pretty. Nations engage actively in their economies. Nations are run by their corporations. Without worker and consumer protection you can screw a whole “nation”—in this rare case, meaning the people—over night. Without government funded education you screw yourself economically even more. I hate to say it, but big govt. is here to stay, at least for the time being. While it’s here it might as well serve the interests of the people and not just corporations.

When it comes down to it, it’s mostly just a culture and image issue. Policy has very little say. But I don’t think the republicans will be around for more than twenty years longer. Rest easy. Sort of. There’ll be worse yet.

    1. What I don’t get is that almost none of these teabaggers are old enough to have lived in the Wild West World they seem to want. They grew up in a country where the basic assumptions–up to about 1980 or so–were liberal. It was liberal policies (GI Bill, etc.) that gave them the ability to get education (however poorly they’re using it), good jobs, and finally, the wherewithal to get RVs and drive to Glenn Beck rallies. All that is going away with the liberalism they despise.

      1. I’ve long said that the libertards will eventually get the system they say they want, but they aren’t going to like it at all. The bitching and moaning will be nigh unbearable, and none of them will understand that the Hobbesian nightmare was the direct outcome of what they’re calling for now.

    1. If he did I’d probably not keep coming back to this blog.

But I disagree: there are rational people who don’t change their views. It’s mostly just a personality type thing.

  3. I voted for Obama, and even went to a rally supporting him. Even at the time I thought he was the lesser of two evils. Despite that I’m still very disappointed in his performance. He came into office under circumstances that would be trying for anyone, but he gave up a lot of ground he didn’t need to.

So yeah, there are differences between the two major parties, but they aren’t big enough for me. I’ll be voting for third parties from now on.
