Blast from the Past: Great Movie from 1969

Midnight Cowboy.

With Jon Voigt as Joe Buck and Dustin Hoffman as Ratso Rizzo in one of the greatest US movies of the past 50 years. Only X-rated movie to ever win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Directed by John Schlesinger. Unfortunately, the movie is now largely forgotten, but those of us who lived in the era will never forget it.

If you’ve never seen it, do.

  1. That era (late 60s early 70s..) produced a lot of gritty and fairly realistic films. Out of curiosity I looked up Midnight Cowboy on Wikipedia.. it was a huge hit..made for 3 million, it grossed 40 million (which at the time was quite a big hit..) and won several Oscars.

  2. Yes. Love it. The second person I met in America, in a bar off Broadway, was Susan Miles, who played the older woman who was Voight’s only female client when he did his gigolo. Funny that.

  3. yeah I’ve seen this. Can’t remember a dang thing about it. Age…sigh…there was a hustler in it trying to be a rent boy, right?
