Good Shit from 1968

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNGe7iK1O-4]

Ennio Morricone doing The Ecstasy of Gold, the soundtrack to Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The ultimate spaghetti Western music to the ultimate spaghetti Western flick. These flicks and especially the music to go along with them were also very popular with us punks during the early punk era for some weird reason. You would often hear these tracks on the punk radio stations of the era and at wild hardcore punk shows. I don’t have a reason for that.

Edda Dell’Orso, Italian diva, does the killer Italian operatic solo wordless singing on the score.

Ennio Morricone, typical crazy artist, with a typical crazy artist look in his eyes. He looks pretty punk. I can see why the punks like him. I so want to be this dude.

Sergio Leone is next.

Sergio Leone. He looks like a punk too. Also shades of Francis Ford Coppola and how could we miss the Hemingway?

One more thing. Why don’t all your Nordicists just FOAD already? Who says Southern Europeans are inferior? They make more and better art in a century than you could in a millenia? Even your ultimate Nordicist heroes of all time, the Nazis, said so.

  1. You would often hear these tracks on the punk radio stations of the era and at wild hardcore punk shows. I don’t have a reason for that.

    Because Morricone is punk rock.

      1. Well… there used to be a record store in the Mission district of SF called Epicenter.. basically all they played or sold was punk rock. I walked into the store once and they were playing KC and the Sunshine Band… I said out loud..”umm KC and the Sunshine Band..?” And two people replied almost in unison.. “they’re punk rock…” I guess whatever music that was popular among the punk set during that era…seemed to get labeled as punk rock. A badge of honor.

  2. Sergio Leone is next.

    Have you ever seen the films Yojimbo (basically Leone remade it as Fistful of dollars..) or Sanjuro (a sort of template for “A Few dollars more”..)?

    1. I love that scene!

      I always thought it should be shown to those militant “La Raza” types, who think California still belongs to Mexico. They always point out the amazing development and industry that comes out of California, as though any of it would even be here at all, had Mexico kept the place 160 years ago.

      I went to the JPL’s open house in Pasadena a few weeks back. I always found NASA’s space probe missions far more interesting than any manned equivalent. From there, since the 1960’s, robot spacecraft have been sent all over the solar system. Mind boggling to even comprehend that humans can do this. Sling-shoting these things off the upper atmospheres of gas giants, 1,000 times the volume of our Earth.

      I highly doubt JPL would be there today, if we Californians still lived as a part of Mexico. All these great minds from across the world, simply would never have come. There would never have been a need.

      Just my 2 cents, and a total tangent to go off in, I know.

  3. Brilliant, wonderful music (and cinema) from 1968, the influence of which is still being felt today! Case in point – my Spaghetti Western Concept Rap album, called “Showdown at the BK Corral.” It’s basically a Spaghetti Western over 9 tracks – very influenced by Morricone and Leone. I’d love to hear what you think of it! You can download it for free at sunsetparkriders.com
