Black Response to “We Don’t Respect You”

I really enjoyed this response to We Don’t Respect You from a very pro-Black Black man who calls himself Black Thought. It’s sounds Afrocentric to me, but he says he’s not an Afrocentrist. There is an Afrocentrist who regularly comes to the comments section too.

However, I do respect some of these Afrocentrist types as long as they are polite to us.  There is something shameful about a Black person, or any person, who does not respect their own race or kind. It seems like such a basic, primal instinct. Respect your family, respect your tribe, respect your people, respect your race.

Since your race is part of you, if you don’t even respect your own race, how is it you respect yourself? The Afrocentrists at least stick up for their own kind. As everyone should. Everyone should stick up for their own. As an ethnocentric White man, I lament the fact that Whites can’t respect ourselves anymore. But what I want for myself, I want for others too. I want Blacks to wake up in the morning and say, “Thank GOD for making me Black!” I want everyone else to do the same, Hell, even the Aborigines.

His response, followed by mine, is over at his blog.

I can’t overemphasize the importance of this lack of respect because so much seem to flow right out of that. If we could ameliorate Whites’ lack of respect for Blacks, race relations would be so much better, no? Since so much flows out of it, I’d love to see a major Black political leader bring this up, if they could politically get away with it.

What if Barack said, “You know, White people just don’t respect Blacks. That’s all there is to it. This is the crux of the problem.”? Now, politically, he could not do that, but let’s suppose for a minute he could.

Could you imagine that all over Fox News and Rush Limbaugh and rightwing radio? What would White people say? Would they deny it? Some would, sure. Would they admit it? Now that would be interesting! Surely there would be some Whites calling in to the stations and telling it like it is, “Hell no! Hell NO we don’t respect them!” Then the firestorm debate would be off. I’d love to see a fascinating conversation like that engulf this nation for a week or two, or however long the public’s attention span is these days.

What do you mean by lack of respect Robert…? Do you automatically respect entire groups of people..? I don’t.

    As for this graphic:

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GiM5TrQjrRk/S15oz_KCbXI/AAAAAAAAABk/XSyNbD13Jz4/s1600-h/bewithyou.jpg

It’s like the rest of his comments.. sure such a scene may have been common in 1940 but the reverse is much more common now.

  2. Regarding this comment from from “Black Thought”:

“never was the status of Native American humanity so audaciously reduced to 3/5s. ”

He doesn’t know his American history. The 3/5s rule was a compromise to constrict the slavers power, slave holders wanted to fully count slaves, abolitionists only wanted to count free men to restrict the slave holding states power:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-fifths_compromise

“Delegates opposed to slavery generally wished to count only the free inhabitants of each state. Delegates supportive of slavery, on the other hand, generally wanted to count slaves in their actual numbers. Since slaves could not vote, slaveholders would thus have the benefit of increased representation in the House and the Electoral College; taxation was only a secondary issue.[citation needed] The final compromise of counting “all other persons” as only three-fifths of their actual numbers reduced the power of the slave states relative to the original southern proposals, but increased it over the northern position.”

  3. lindsay writes, What if Barack said, “You know, White people just don’t respect Blacks. That’s all there is to it. This is the crux of the problem.”

I agree with most of your article but this is the part that interests me. So this is the part I’ll focus on.

Regarding the first part, “White people just don’t respect Blacks.”

Some whites respect blacks and others don’t. Even among whites for whom respect of the person isn’t really an issue there is probably a distaste for what some would consider TNB. Ultimately, however, there are two kinds of respect which must be earned – collective and individual. I don’t think most whites have any disagreement with respecting an individual who has earned it. The disagreement is when individuals who have not earned respect demand it. Or when groups demand respect without giving due consideration in return.

Regarding the second part, That’s all there is to it. This is the crux of the problem.”

I disagree with this part. Do you really think Farrakhan or Khalid Mohammed are just looking for a little respect? That might be all that Aretha Franklin is interested in. And I have no problem giving it to her. But there is a not insignificant population of blacks for whom charges of disrespect, discrimination and even slavery are nothing more than an excuse. And there is nothing whites could ever do to satisfy them.

    1. Thx Fred. I don’t think that that is the sum total of the problem, but I think if we respected them as a race, race relations would be a lot better.

Sure the Black nationalists will never be happy no matter what we do. They consider us irredeemable anyway.

Obviously, most Whites, if they were honest, would say that Blacks have not *earned* our respect, so they don’t deserve it. But that’s an argument that will never end. I figure we ought to respect regardless of whether they deserve it or not, simply on account of them being human.

  4. To Rob:

What are signs of Whites collectively treating people with respect versus not treating people with
respect..? What are current examples for people who are alive and under the age of 40..?

My feeling isn’t that Whites collectively respect or disrespect Blacks but that some collectively have fear and or discomfort around Blacks.

  5. Robert,
    You’ve got it entirely wrong.
It’s not a case of ‘respect’ or ‘disrespect’ but simply a matter of hard sociological truths and statistics.
It’s all about the enormous disproportionate amount of crime committed. It’s all about STD rates, illegitimacy, obstreptuousness, aggression, theft, murder, rape, bullying etc etc.
‘Respect’ is only something that is earned.

As to your observation that somehow you see blacks as being ‘less than human’ and the ‘great genetic differences’, well even many hardcore WNs would NEVER actually make those sorts of statements.

    1. I don’t see Blacks as less than human. White racists constantly say that Blacks are not human. That’s one of their lines. Blacks are another species, according to them.

Hardcore White racists do constantly talk about the great genetic differences between Blacks and Whites.

Re: your comment. Of course. You say that Blacks have not earned our respect. Exactly. This is what most Whites will respond.

      1. We really havent earned your respect. We let ourselves be enslaved. We didnt start any uprisings. Now that we have been freed, now we uprise in the streets.

  6. Rob,

How, in your opinion, do Whites demonstrate a lack of respect for Blacks (now… not 50 years ago or earlier…) as opposed to their behavior towards Latinos, Asians, American Indians, or other Whites..?

What in your opinion is a demonstration of a form of respect that Whites (collectively) show for another race..?

    1. It’s just my impressionistic feeling after 52 years in the US around White people. Of course we don’t respect them as a race. It’s so obvious. And neither do you! I’ve seen many of your posts over at American Renaissance. At Amren the lack of respect for Blacks as a race is as clear as air, and relatively greater respect for Hispanics, Amerindians and Asians is abundantly clear.

I’ve also seen many of your posts over there, and it’s clear that you have no respect for Blacks as a race whatsoever. You don’t want any Blacks in your life, you don’t want any Black friends or acquaintances. In fact, you want to separate from non-Whites altogether, and the main reason you want to do that is to get the Hell away from Blacks! I’ve been reading your posts over there for a long time now and even here you were making that crystal clear a while back anyway before you went on stealth mode.

It’s an impressionistic thing. It’s not really measurable scientifically. It’s just the feeling I get when I try to get into White people’s heads and figure out how they really feel about different races. We don’t respect Blacks at all. Even liberal Whites really don’t, not that much. On the other hand, you don’t see that same attitude towards Hispanics, Amerindians and Asians.

  7. Rob,
In fact, you want to separate from non-Whites altogether…

Uhh dude.. with this statement I think you are confusing me with someone else. I like Fred Reed and one day will probably live overseas in non-White country. The last four women I have dated are non-White. I recently co-signed for an apartment for a friend of mine who isn’t White.
(her credit got shot when she had a medical problem..)

I would be happy to discuss this further with you in emails and if necessary send you supporting photographic evidence. (Hell I sent you photographs of my trips to Asia.. did you get them…)

You don’t want any Blacks in your life, you don’t want any Black friends or acquaintances.

If you have been paying attention to all of my posts here, Abagond’s website, and at Amren (I posted at Abagond’s and your website much longer and more frequently than at Amren where I no longer post..) you’ll know that I grew up around Black people and am in regular contact with Black people. My mother taught for 6 years at a historical Black University and I not interested in sharing it publicly but I can send you an email of a civil rights/ business organization that she was involved with. My Aunt met Malcolm X and was a member of SNCC. I have a friend who visits my house at least two times a week who considers himself Black or at the very least mixed. (It vacillates depending upon his mood, visually he appears to be about 1/4 Black…) I assure you I would get very nasty if someone threatened him or called him the N-word. I spent Christmas (it’s not my religion but I participate when others do..) with a White couple and a Black woman.

What you read from me is my great disappointment from what I was raised with and around and my (many negative) experiences with Blacks starting as a teenager. Yes I certainly go back and forth with my thoughts and emotions on the subject but it just isn’t that simple as you have laid things out.

  8. By the photograph in my avatar is that of my father and three of his navy buddies in Manila in 1946. It’s hard to see but the man to the far left is a Black man from Chicago. The other two guys were Jewish and also from the Midwest. Does a WN put a photo of a Black man in his avatar..?

  9. Rob,

We don’t respect Blacks at all. Even liberal Whites really don’t, not that much. On the other hand, you don’t see that same attitude towards Hispanics, Amerindians and Asians.

Well after we got that personal stuff out of the way… let’s get back to the subject at hand.

What do you see as an expression of a lack of respect of Whites towards Blacks.. conversely what do you see as a form of respect that Whites pay .. say Latinos? And I don’t mean Amren or any of it’s more toxic relatives such as Stormfront. I mean the broad mass of Whites which you have written many times think the notion of separatism/segregation is a ridiculous idea.

  10. What are we supposed to respect about blacks? Their high crime rates? Their high rate of dropping out of high school? Their high illegitimacy rates? Maybe if blacks did something that we could respect then we might start respecting them.

  11. Something I have discussed over on Abagond’s blog is white people’s mis-understanding of what racism is. Most whites think racism is a form of hatred. If you asked virtually any white American, “are most whites racist?” 99% of them will say no. From the white frame of racial understanding, if you don’t feel hatred towards a group, you are not racist. Simple as that. Even many black people feel that racism = hatred, though I think black people instinctively understand that it runs a bit deeper than that.

While all haters are racist, not all racists are haters. You can believe a group is inferior, be at the conscious or unconscious level and not hate them. Many whites who don’t have a hateful bone in their body might start to worry if they saw a black pilot walk onto a plane(even Tim Wise admitted he felt that way himself and he is the most vocal anti-racist white there is).

Racism CAN be a form of hatred, but often it is not. Racism is when you value and ultimately treat someone as less on account of their race. Why do whites go all the way to China to adopt kids when there are black kids in orphans right here, who already speak English? I’m sure many of them don’t even think about why they’d prefer to adopt a Chinese kid than a black kid. Why do whites only find a black woman beautiful if she has very white looking features? What if blacks thought all whites were ugly unless they were whites who happened to have kinky hair, broad noses and thick lips? None of this stuff has to do with hate, it has to do with putting a lower value on being black. This is invisible to white people. They are still stuck in the racism = hate paradigm, so in their mind since Jim Crow is over, racism is history. Racism will be history when people no longer place any value on racial phenotype. But given that even blacks do this to themselves, I don’t have any hope that racism will end anytime soon.

    1. Abagond certainly has some babes, as do Essence and King. With 40 million people to choose among, of course there are some babes.

I don’t agree with Abagond that Caucasian-like features are necessary. But if you look at sites where the women aren’t as selective by looks, like some porn sites, some of the women look frankly like an earlier phase of evolution.

  12. There is a video that is going bonkers on youtube right now about a crazy 67-year-old white vet on a bus that beats the shit out of a younger(but not young) black dude. The black dude is confrontational and hostile. This video is being posted and forwarded everywhere right now:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF6W3206l70

Now personally, I think the video is hilarious. The guy deserved to have his ass beat. I don’t know anyone, black or white that doesn’t take the white guy’s side. However, look down at the comments. This video has many duplicates on youtube and they are all filled with the exact same racist comments. I’ve never seen one video on youtube generate so much racist sentiment amongst whites. Not only in volume, but in the speed. A new comment is being posted almost every minute. While most blacks view it and see a funny video about a shit-talker getting his just desserts and not really a thing about race per se, the comments from whites are jaw-dropping. Besides the obvious “N” bullets being sprayed like a machine gun, it’s almost like an orgasmic experience for the whites viewing.

The comment that stuck out to me most is where the white guy is likened to being white America’s “Rosa Parks.” That one particularly stuck with me, because I think that’s how many whites view this, on some level. One guy on another forum a visit said the fact that he was black made the video more satisfying. I told him that I am black, and if he thinks it’s cool to see him get beat *because* he’s black, then that’s racist and “fuck you”. He responded by calling me a Nigger despite the fact that I and just about every other black person takes the side of the white guy. Anyway, even the whites that aren’t posting overtly racist comments seem to be going ape-shit over it.

I have no idea how much the youtube audience represents the hidden thoughts median white America, when allowed to speak anonymously, that’s a wild card to me. I’m under no illusions that most whites view blacks as equals, but the level of anger and resentment you see there is stunning. To the point that it makes me wonder how Obama even got elected.

So tying this all in with this ongoing issue with respect of blacks. I agree with Black Thought in that whites haven’t shown respect for non-black minorities historically either. However the disrespect of blacks goes far and beyond what exists for any other group. I see this when I view anonymous comments. There’s an underlying deep resentment of blacks. A man on another forum says that he sees blacks attacked routinely on youtube by Latinos on spanish language videos too. As well as Asian videos. While sociologists have traditionally divided the world by white vs. non-white, I’m starting to think it’s more like black vs. non-black. At least when viewing social attitudes.

What else could explain why a thematically similar video with a white aggressor received virtually no racist replies.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZbXLS38p8

A white man physically harasses an Asian woman, and the Asian woman kicks his ass badly right there on camera. Now I think this one is even funnier than the bus video. Now one can only imagine the responses if a black man went up to physically harass a white woman and the white woman beat the shit out of him on tape. It would have 5,000 N-word laced responses within the hour.

So in conclusion, Black thought and Robert Lindsay are actually both right. After pondering the reactions of this video for a moment, I don’t think their two positions are mutually exclusive.

  13. I knew you would finally come around. I don’t know how nice we are to other races. It’s hard to say and at the end of the day, it’s not too important. Here in California, a lot of the poltics is all about race. We would not be having these massive budget cuts right now if this was a White state. But the Whites are gutting social programs that they see going to non-Whites, mostly Hispanics and the Hispanics are getting radically pounded in the process.

So in that way even Arnold is probably a racist governor. Do you think he would be gutting those programs if they went to poor and working class Whites. I find that dubious. This state was most liberal when it was still pretty White. As it become more Hispanic, it turned more and more conservative. Those programs were funded in the 1970’s because people saw them as going to other Whites. They won’t fund them now because they see them as going to Hispanics.

So when I say we like Hispanics, take that with a huge grain of salt. CA White politics is basically, Fuck the Mexicans!

I see you are getting my point now. The hate that Whites feel towards Blacks is simply off the charts in comparison to the way we feel towards other minorities. Sure you hear comments against Hispanics and East Indians now and then (almost none against Asians though).

But the contempt for Blacks is just qualitatively higher. Many Whites who say they are not racist make exceptions for Blacks. The racism against Blacks is off the charts. I call it The Mother of all Hates.

You make an interesting point in that the world may be divided into Blacks and non-Blacks. Yes, Hispanics are quite racist against Blacks. It often seems that they are worse than Whites. And Asians also have a lot of racism against Blacks, but it tends to be more silent and brooding.

I guess the problem for a Black guy is realizing that Whites hate you more than other non-Whites and that a lot of other non-Blacks don’t like you either. But that defense should be disregarded. If it’s all just racism, call it what it is. So what if Blacks bear the brunt of it worse? No reason to hide from it. Call it out!

Anti-racists are obligated to fight racism, no matter how painful it may be to realize that you are disliked. You’re not going to make it go away but saying it’s not there.

I think this makes Abagond and Tim Wise and the rest important. These guys are calling out US Whites as racist, US society as racist, saying that racism is not over just because Obama got elected, etc. The continuing strong racism against Blacks coming from US Whites, Hispanics and Asians shows that Wise and Abagond and there is a lot of work to do.

  14. the Whites are gutting social programs that they see going to non-Whites, mostly Hispanics and the Hispanics are getting radically pounded in the process.

So in that way even Arnold is probably a racist governor. Do you think he would be gutting those programs if they went to poor and working class Whites. I find that dubious.

Well first Whites are a plurality not a majority and the tax burden in California is heavily skewed to wealthier individuals. The tax burden for California is almost the same as it was pre – prop 13:

    http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/443.html

Cal has been in the top 10 (and often top 5) heaviest taxed state in the Union for the past 15 years. Hardly a lightly taxed state.

If the state had increased spending at the same pace as inflation for the past 10 years we would not have a budget deficit. The spending is out of control.

Adding to the problems of the state are a big chunk of revenues come from real estate transactions (1% of the sale in Oakland…) which have declined dramatically. Also you have had a tremendous drop in the price of real estate in about half of the state (down 75% in some areas…) The legislature spent that money without planning for a rainy day.

So I ask, if the tax burden is almost as high as during the pre Prop 13 era, where is the money going…?

  15. aside from subcultures and urban tribes blacks are as westernized as hispanics ( both use european names, speak european languages, use european clothing… they forgot about their african and native heritage which is sad) see this:
most common names for blacks in U.S.A are: Jayden, Joshua, Elijah , Jeremiah, Ethan, Aiden, Justin, Michael, Christian and Tyler… all white european names..
most common names for hispanics in U.S.A are: Santiago ,Matías Sebastián, Mateo, Nicolás, Alejandro, Samuel, Diego, Daniel, Benjamín … all european white names again…they don’t like black or brown names it seems like Anansi or Citlali
in contrast East Asia preserved its culture and the most common names in Japan are:
Yui, Aoi, Hina, Rin, Ria, Yuina, Miu, Sakura, Miyu, Nanami…they really like yellow names : ) thumbs up for east asians

  16. Jet li, it doesnt matter if the names are European, it has to be Anglo-Saxon for assimilation to happen. Spanish names like Jose are just as foreign as Ching Chang Chong, or Jet Li.

    1. List of most popular given names, United States ,Indian names: Deven, Ishaan ,Neil ,Aryan, Rohan, Arnav, Nikhil, David ,Armaan ,Suraj… except for David thumbs up for indian americans, assimilation don’t need to happen for them, i don’t support assimilation and i don’t like it, i prefer diversity, i don’t try to impose Spanish names between hispanics, i encourage and suggest them to use Mexican names like: 1-Amoxtli 2- Citlalli 3-Citlalmina 4-Cualli 5-Cuauhtemoc 6-Eztli 7-Itztli 8-Xochitl 9-Mictlan or 10-Tonatiuh and a large etc
this is my message for brown hispanics: the main reason for taking off your Spanish or English name or giving one to your child, and taking on a 100% Mexican (Indigenous) name, should be that you are doing an ethnic correction to yourself or to your child ,you are not Spanish or English, you want to stop being false to yourself and to the world, changing your name to a Mexican name is that it makes a statement: i am mexican and I am proud
