Interesting video from ABC 20/20. They set up a couple of gags in a park in a middle income mostly-White neighborhood in New Jersey. Then they have some White boys vandalize a car in full view of everyone. Some time goes by, and only one guy calls the cops. Most passerby don’t know what to think. But during this time, there were two calls about “Blacks planning a robbery” in the park. They were 20/20 actors sleeping in a car, young Black males in ghetto attire.
Then they set up three Black kids with ghetto attire and appearance who go to work on a car, vandalizing it and apparently trying to break into it. This quickly generates many calls to the cops, plus some non-Blacks in the area try to intervene.
The skit ends with commentary about racism in America.
I don’t know what to think here. Truth is that Blacks as a group commit tons of crime. That’s people follow them around in stores, grab their purses and move away, etc. It’s also probably the reasoning behind the behavior of bystanders in this skit. Suppose Blacks committed about as much crime as Whites, but nevertheless, they were suspected much, much more? That would truly be an outrage.
What’s strange is that no one calls the cops on the White boys vandalizing the car. I don’t understand that.
Black apologists like to imply that Blacks commit just as much crime as Whites, but they just get caught more because they are targeted so much more, searched, pulled over, etc.
This is an interesting theory, but the problem is that when a neighborhood changes from mostly-White towards mostly-Black, one thing one notices is skyrocketing crime. Not just more Black guys getting caught. Actual increased rates of victimization. Victimization surveys where victims could identify the attackers do show that Blacks commit about 8 times more violent crime than Whites.
Another argument is that Blacks commit just as much crime as anyone else, but they just get the book thrown at them when they get caught, while Whites get a slap on the wrist. We’ve already disposed of the notion that Blacks and Whites commit equal amounts of crime.
Careful studies do seem to show that Blacks get a harsher sentence than Whites even when the crimes are the same.
Blacks seem to use as much dope as Whites, but Blacks go down on drug laws more. There does seem to be some discrimination in sentencing, but it seems to be lessening over the years. Nevertheless, discrimination alone is not sufficient to explain high Black incarceration rates.
Speaking of dope, as a former street dealer (mostly pot and psychedelics) for over a decade who never got caught, I assume that Black dealers are simply idiots, and this may be why they get caught.
I can’t prove it, but I have experience with Hispanic dealers in my town, and these are the stupidest dealers I have ever met. When people go to score, the dealer walks out of his house and does the deal right there on his front porch for everyone to see. There’s constant traffic coming and going, people stay 1 minute and leave.
Doesn’t take an Einstein to figure out what’s going on. Or they walk over to the parked car and do the deal right through the window, in broad daylight. There’s a shamelessness about Hispanic dealers that I don’t get. It’s like they get off doing deals right out in the open where any idiot can see what’s going on.
Compared to them, my friends and I were very smart. We grew up in a White suburb in California, and many of us were dealers. We watched traffic very carefully and designed all kinds of routines to keep traffic down. We would meet the person at a neutral place a ways away, do the deal inside a car where people can’t see so well, stretch the deals out a bit so it’s not wham bam thank you Ma’am.
We had strict rules about who we would meet, and many of us had a “no new people” rule. That is, we only dealt with people that we knew. If a friend was scoring for a friend of his, we refused to meet the new person no matter how much they insisted. Instead we conducted the deal solely through the trusted person.
We did all sorts of other things. When we went to buy large quantities of mushrooms or pot, we would dress up like businessmen and carry briefcases, or dress up like we were going to the gym and carry gym bags. The dope would be in the gym bag or the briefcase. We spoke in code on the phone, and if someone was listening in, they probably could not make sense of what we were saying.
We were very paranoid all the time, which is really the way you have to be. Many times I drove by cop after cop with a briefcase or gym bag full of pot in my car. We were also cautious about using. We didn’t use in public like dumbasses. We used behind closed doors.
So, based on that, I figure many of these Black dealers and dopers are just morons, and that may be why they are getting caught so much.
Many of the commenters on the video are really upset about what happened in the show and are carrying on about racism in America.
I’ll let commenters go to work on the video. Any comments about it?
