Fastest Growing Religion

Muslims love to lie and say it’s Islam. Forget that. It’s Baha’i by a long shot. Christianity is growing very fast too, but not as fast as Islam. And in Black Africa, Islam is probably losing millions every single year, all because Gulf Arabs are so racist they won’t spend money to keep up the mosques. Most of the loss is converts to Christianity. Probably 1 Baha’i is supposed to be a pretty cool religion, but I doubt if “the Bob” or whoever he was really got shot to death in the mid-1800’s in Persia and then miraculously came back to life. That’s one of their beliefs. Baha’is are mercilessly persecuted in Iran. The Shia just out and out kill them. They are considered the lowest scum on Earth because they are seen as Muslim heretics. You think Muslims hate infidels? Polytheists are worse, and the most hated of all are the schismatic Muslims who preach what mainstream Islam regard as overt heresies. The Ahmadiya in Pakistan and India are similarly despised and mistreated. The fundamentalists hate the Alawi in Syria too as de facto heretics, but the Asad ruling elite has gone to great lengths to say that Alawis are just regular Muslims. The Druze are also hated by fundamentalists, but they are so hardass, gun-crazy and suicidally homicidal in Lebanon that everyone pretty much leaves them alone. They believe in reincarnation, so they are not afraid to die. They were some of the most insane fighters of all in the Civil War. The Sunni fundamentalist beef against the Shia is that the Shia are heretics. That’s a really hard to case to make, seeing as the Shia are practically the original Muslims. It’s like these idiot Protestant fundamentalists who say that Catholics are not Christians. Hell, they are the original Christians, come on. Them and the Othodox. One church, two branches, East and West, and they healed their schism long ago.

  1. whoa, catholics aren’t the original christians. they were just the first megachurch. Catholicism is a roman invention. It was church and state combined, not so much now, more like a nifty little cultural thing. in my short secluded life, in my small secluded city, i only know non-practicing catholics and jews. i hear this a lot, (not the exact words) yeah i don’t go to mass or anything but i was sprinkled as a baby. yeah, don’t go to synagogue or anything but i got my wang snipped as a baby.
anyway, the catholics and orthodox were just a step on the evolution of christianity to the beautiful plethora of creative interpretations of the bible/bibles.
also can you dig any dirt on the orthodox? specifically the original greeks.
i get shit for the crusades, jews have the entire old testament rape and pillage, Muslims have plenty, taoism and buddhism? hindus killed muslims, i seen ghandi. what about them grecos? they kind of were involved in the crusades? idk

  2. First church was the Orthodox, basically a Catholic church. Roman church was just the Orthodox branch in the West. There were no Protestants until the 1500’s. The Syrian Orthodox church is the oldest Christian church on Earth. It goes back to 60 AD. Those really early “Christian” churches (non-Orthodox) were more Jewish than anything else. They’ve all pretty much died out. Crusaders came from Central Europe, and they fought against the Christians, Jews and Muslims of the Holy Land! They killed the Eastern Christians! However, the Maronites supposedly welcomed the Crusaders and a lot of people still hate them for this.

  3. Dear Robert
The Bahai may be the fastest growing religion in percentage terms but certainly not in absolute numbers. I bet that the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses are growing fast as well.
As a rule, Christians, Muslims and Hindus only made converts among pagans and people without religion. Before WWII, virtual all the Muslims in the world were under direct or indirect rule by Christians or Communists, but very few Muslims converted to the religion of their masters. In 1939, Britain was the wrold’s greates Islamic power, followed by the Netherlands.
One area in which Christianity has a lot of growth potential is China. About 30% of South Korea is now Christian. If 30% of the Chinese became Christians, that would be almost 400 million people. At the Vatican, they probably have written off Europe already.
The end of religion is certainly not nigh. Only navel-gazing educated Westerners believe that. In their own circles they don’t see much religion, so they conclude that religion is disappearing. They also believe that the whole world is becoming racially mixed because in large Western cities this is indeed happening. It is amazing how provincial these political correcties and self-styled cosmopolitans can be.

    1. “As a rule, Christians, Muslims and Hindus only made converts among pagans and people without religion.” …
Hindus ARE pagans. In both terms of the word pagan: historic and as commonly used.
Historically I believe there is widespread agreement that just as there is a commonality to the Indo-European languages, there is a comonality to Indo-European aboriginal religion. The Zeus = Odin mapping is well known, the Zeus = Vishnu one less so, but I think most religious scholars accept the basic idea.
In common usage pagan means: polytheistic, or belief in gods other than the One True God of Abraham. Thus all religions except Jewish/Christian/Islam (and offshoots) are pagan.
Anway, other than my nit picking, good post.

  4. Lot of people are converting to Baha’ism in the West. I think Juan Cole either used to be a Baha’i or else he is still one. No one in the Muslim World converts to Baha’ism.
Christianity is having a hard time in China. I don’t know if the Chinese authorities limit missionary work, but only 6% of Chinese are Christians. About 90% of Chinese seem to have no religion at all. However, some Christians, especially in Southern China around Fujian, are very passionate about Christianity. There is a big Christian community in Fuzhou in Fujian. Quite a few Chinese in the West are also Christians.
Religion certainly is not outdated where I live. In the White towns of the Sierra foothills, passionate fundamentalist Christianity is the rule. Here in Madera, both fundamentalist Christianity and Catholicism are very big among Hispanics, and the Whites around here are also big into fundamentalism. Those not Christians are passionate Muslims (Yemenis) or Sikhs (Punjabis). Seems about everyone around here has a religion. Atheists and agnostics are few and far between.
There are a fair number of Christian converts from Hinduism in India, and lots of Muslims in Russia are converting to Christianity. After every terrorist attack in Chechnya, there are more converts. In North Ossetia after the Beslan School Attack, tens of thousands of local Muslims converted to Christianity. They’re sick and tired of Muslim terrorism, and they want to be more a part of Russian society. Orthodox religion is a deep part of Russian culture, and if you really want to be a Russian, you convert to Orthodox.

  5. I dunno, I know some Pakistani Muslims who told me that they have had it with Islam. For all intents and purposes, they have left Islam, and they have told me that they think Islam has little future. It’s hard to leave Islam or even critique it too much if you are a Muslim, but it’s pretty ok to be “not a good Muslim” or “not a very religious Muslim.”
I talked to a gay man who left Islam, and he really hated the religion. He said they threatened to kill him. I also know a Kurdish guy who left Islam, and he really hates it too. His cousins threatened to kill him and his sister refuses to speak with him. These people who leave turn into the wildest Muslim-haters of them all.

    1. Went to college with a Pakistani who was a nominal Muslim / Muslim in Name Only.
The people who I would say are the most unmuslim Muslims are Persiansr who live in Western countries and the Gulf. Never met one who gave 2 shits about Islam. My hunch is that it in no small part is due to the fact that those who fled Iran after the revolution were the middle and upper classes who identify with Persian Nationalism and or Shah supporters .

  6. Slightly off topic. I heard once that the richest ethnic group were not the jews, but the Parsees – descended from the old Persian Zoroastrianism, I believer, mostly in N. West India. Anyone know anything.

  7. go to some elite universities, and many of the whites are ‘kinda buddhists’ (especially the jews), and many of the asians are fervent chrisitians – especially the koreans (christianity is a religion of the elite in s korea, all presidents since ’93 have been christian).

  8. I believe that they do have a lot of money, but I’m not sure. They cause problems by putting their dead on the roofs of their homes to rot and get eaten by vultures. It really makes the neighbors mad! There’s not that many of them in India and I think you cannot convert in.

  9. I didn’t know that Christianity was an elite religion in Korea.
“Kind of a Buddhist” means someone who is on the way towards atheism and agnosticism. Some anti-religious people say that Buddhism is the only religion that can be supported by science.

  10. In Malaysia, apostasy for Muslims is punishable by death – though I am not aware if this is carried out. By definition, Malays in Malaysia are considered Muslims. Other religions are discouraged from converting Muslims. In fact, there are many cases of converts who died are forcibly buried as Muslims even though they have converted to Christianity.

  11. If you don’t mind the comments of a Baha’i…
Muslims love to lie and say it’s Islam.
    Forget that.
    It’s Baha’i by a long shot.
It is quite right to say Islam and Christians are growing in absolute numbers far more than Baha’is. But in percentage terms and in a grasp of a universal pattern – yes even in Muslim countries – the religions has grown at more than or about twice the rate of population growth in every region of the world. There have been times of decrease followed by surges. A good review can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growth_of_religion#Bahá'í_Faith
Baha’i is supposed to be a pretty cool religion, but I doubt if “the Bob” or whoever he was really got shot to death in the mid-1800’s in Persia and then miraculously came back to life. That’s one of their beliefs.
You have misapprehended things. “The Báb” (word meaning Gate of God, as in “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in”) was indeed shot and the documentation is irrefutable that everyone missed in the first volley. In the ensuing chaos he made his way back to his prison cell to finish the dictation of a letter that had been interrupted. Then when they were ready again – the first regiment of soldiers refused to shoot at him again – he was executed successfully but everyone missed his face. Drawing exist but are not shown publicly. Reports come from sympathetic and antagonist sources.
There is also the fact that the largest non-Shia minority isn Iran is the Baha’is – not the Sunni. So we are a presence that is everywhere and constantly threatening their world view. But look at an example of how we deal with the harassment and death – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahá'í_Institute_for_Higher_Education

    I hope that helps.
